Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored in an arid, vacuum-sealed chamber equipped with an internal pressure indicator (in Pa) and housed in Cryopreservation Unit-08 at Armed Research Area-27. Cameras equipped with thermal imaging are to be installed within SCP-XXXX’s chamber. It is recommended that all testing be handled with immediate access to liquid nitrogen or colder.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a sentient amalgamation composed of an unidentified instance of magnetite, levitating approximately 20 cm from the ground. Visual observations reveal SCP-XXXX to be a black, crystalline structure enveloped by a fine, dark grey dust.1

As a way of sustaining itself, SCP-XXXX constantly induces endothermic reaction with the environment. While this is the core function of its energy acquisition, firearms tests reveals SCP-XXXX capable of deflecting and absorbing kinetic energy (to a limited capacity) but it is unknown if this is the only form of energy it can handle. SCP-XXXX can regenerate from damage received (if any) but must heavily ionize (and then rematerialize) its body in order to do so, with any previous damage incurred apparently removed. How this process is accomplished with little to no energy loss on SCP-XXXX’s behalf is currently under investigation.

Additionally, any living being SCP-XXXX “sees” will become the new host of SCP-XXXX (hereby designated subject). If SCP-XXXX is allowed to have a host, it will always attempt to stay within their proximity. Once a host is chosen, there are few ways to detach SCP-XXXX from the subject.

Currently, SCP-XXXX has revealed the following responses while active:

  • Standby: SCP-XXXX's default response. During this time, SCP-XXXX will submit to preserve its energy supply above approximately 120 K. If SCP-XXXX cannot acquire this energy normally, it will attempt to siphon it from another source.
  • Immobilized: Response triggered if SCP-XXXX’s energy falls below 120 K. All of SCP-XXXX’s parts will fail in function and consequentially collapse, although SCP-XXXX continues to be active. This is the preferred state for testing and analyzing SCP-XXXX’s properties and origin. When SCP-XXXX’s energy returns above 120 K, the entity will make a full recovery.
  • Hostile: Triggered when the subject perceives any force as a threat. During this time, SCP-XXXX's exothermal properties will become present, and will promptly engage to eliminate the threat. While in pursuit of its target, SCP-XXXX has clocked speeds reaching 142 km/h and has shown aggressive disregard for obstructions. If the threat is, or cannot be, eliminated, SCP-XXXX will return to Standby. It is noted that the entity has shown great reluctance in deviating from the established threat, regardless of subject’s prior perception at the time.

Post-examination of living D-Class subjects after exposure to SCP-XXXX returned mixed results, but common consensus reveals the development of symptoms associated with agoraphobia, pyromania, and frostbite. In 72% of cases, subjects reported feeling dehydrated and requested water, complaining of lightheadedness. Requests were approved after subjects were scheduled for cleansing of foreign materials.2
