Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept locked in a sealed room lined with magnetized iron and lead, no less than 40 cm thick. Interior is to remain fully lit at all times. The object is to be kept face down locked inside a case composed of plexiglass inside this room, and is to remain under camera surveillance. All staff are prohibited from looking into the mirror. Class D personnel may do so when directed by a researcher. If the object is seen outside of its container, personnel are instructed to avoid looking into it, and report it immediately.
Addendum: Secondary room lined with mirrors has been constructed for observation of SCP-XXXX-1.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a simple square handheld mirror with a black frame, measuring 19 cm x 1 cm x 30 cm. The frame seems to be made from █████████, and the mirror is composed of ████████, and seems quite durable. The mirror has the ability to teleport when not observed, preferring to appear near sapient life forms. The mechanism of its teleportation ability is currently unknown, but tests have shown that it is unable to teleport through magnetic metals, due to █████████████.
Subjects who look into the mirror1 report seeing a pale humanoid with wide eyes, henceforth known as SCP-XXXX-1, staring at them from behind their own reflection. SCP-XXXX-1 is only seen in the mirror. Upon seeing SCP-XXXX-1, subjects claim to see it in any other reflective object, such as wall mirrors, windows, and puddles. Subjects begin to exhibit symptoms of catoptrophobia2, ████████, and attempt to cover any mirrors and avoid looking at reflective surfaces. Subjects who have seen SCP-XXXX-1 claim to have vivid nightmares involving the object when they go to sleep.
In all accounts, SCP-XXXX-1 is described as a tall, gangling, pale humanoid, with wide lidless eyes, a large dark mouth, ██████████, and hands with very long fingers. Object moves erratically, and seems to only exist in reflections. Subjects who have seen the object seem to recover after ██ weeks of psychological treatment and avoiding of reflective items, but still claim to have occasional sightings of SCP-XXXX-1. Amnestics seem to have no effect, as subjects will continue to see the object, but no longer recall where it came from.
SCP-XXXX-1 appears to be able to manipulate or harm subjects through their reflection. How it does so is unknown, and requires further study. One subject has thus far been killed as a result, and three others injured. The object does not make any attack immediately, instead waiting at least three days before becoming hostile. The reason behind this is unknown, but is believed that it does this to create fear in its victim.
SCP-XXXX was recovered from the home of ██████ █████████ on ██/██/████, in █████████, Maine. Inside the home, the bathroom mirror was missing, showing signs of having been torn from the wall. The mirror in the bedroom was covered by ██████, and for reasons unknown, nailed to the floor. █████████ was found in her bed deceased, with SCP-XXXX on her bedside table. █████████ showed signs of convulsion, and her eyes were ███████. A subsequent autopsy revealed that █████████ had died from amphetamine overdose the night before the mirror was recovered.
The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX were discovered when a member of the retrieval team found the mirror and examined it, seeing SCP-XXXX-1. There were initially some difficulties retrieving SCP-XXXX, due to its tendency to teleport out of most containers we used.
Addendum: Researchers began to conduct interviews with Class D personnel that claimed to have nightmares involving SCP-XXXX-1. Recorded transcripts are on file.
Interview Log XXXX-A
<Begin recording, skip to 5:32>
Dr. ██████: Now, D-9451, would you like to describe to me this nightmare of yours?
[There is a moment of silence, and a sound of shaky sighing]
Dr. ██████: Look, I understand this is hard for you, but this is important to us. Please tell me what happened.
D-9451: I guess what I remember most is the screaming… It never stopped, and those eyes…
Dr. ██████: [Sounds of writing] I see. Is that all you remember?
D-9451: No… [A moment of silence] There's more… [DATA EXPUNGED]
Dr. ██████: Oh, oh, um… I'm sorry, I'm going to have to bring this interview to a close.
Dr. ██████ reports that he had to leave abruptly because D-9451's story made him feel nauseous and uneasy. D-9451 is currently receiving psychological treatment.
Addendum-A: Researcher audio log of Class D personnel 8936, subject killed by SCP-XXXX-1.
Dr. █████████: Audio log from Dr. █████████, ███████ ██th, 2012. Class D-8936 was brought into SCP number XXXX's container three days ago for observation of SCP-XXXX-1. He looked into the mirror, and has since claimed to see the figure everywhere, even in the reflection of his coffee mug. Today, we brought him to the mirrored room to observe the object. He showed signs of intense anxiety, and continually asked to leave. After a few minutes, he became overwhelmed with panic, and claimed that SCP-XXXX-1 was touching his reflection. At that point, ████ large ████████ ██████ began to appear on his body, causing D-8936 to begin screaming.
[There's a short pause, and a sigh]
Dr. █████████: He tried to tell us what was happening, but when he opened his mouth he instead █████████ and then began going into a ████████ state. He then collapsed on the floor, dead. The body was taken away, and janitorial staff were called to clean up the mess. After what happened today, I sure am glad I'm not the one looking at that mirror. I don't think I ever want to see exactly what it looks like. End of log.
