Item #: SCP-XXX
Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be contained on its original 20X30 sheet of plain-white drawing paper, secured safely under an airtight bulletproof glass container and hung at eye level. The location of SCP-XXX is to be changed every six weeks and can currently be placed in any area with at least level-2 clearance. Contact with SCP-XXX is permitted for all approved personnel and encouraged, as subject is non-hostile. However, due to the strange nature of SCP-XXX's "condition", it is to be protected by at least one guard or high-ranking official at all times to deter visitors during breakdowns.

Since just what sets SCP-XXX off is unknown, sharp objects or firearms of any kind are to be put away in the presence of SCP-XXX. The bulletproof case is to be outfitted with a security-breach alarm to alert authorities to any inappropriate actions. When being transported, SCP-XXX must be placed in an empty box with foam wrap or other soft material. This is to be handled with care. The glass case is to be cleaned once a week. No liquid or foreign material is to be in direct contact with the paper at any time.

Description: SCP-XXX came to the attention of the Foundation after a construction crew in Cleveland, Ohio found it while inspecting an abandoned apartment complex before demolition, hanging on the wall in one of the rooms. The room was completely empty besides SCP-XXX. The Foundation intercepted SCP-XXX from the local authorities and contained it without incident.

SCP-XXX is a sentient being drawn on a piece of white, 20X30 drawing paper. Subject is fully sentient and capable of voluntary movement, free thought, and communication with Foundation personnel. Subject’s line work seems to be ink of unknown type. Strangely, repeated analyses of ink yield varying results from test to test. The origin of SCP-XXX is under investigation, but nothing has been found as of now. SCP-XXX is mostly non-hostile and benign, but shows occasional fascination with his own death and seems to suffer from a bi-polar disorder or some sort of dementia. This condition has existed since his containment and is predicted to be a pre-existing condition.

SCP-XXX is a cartoon drawing of a young Caucasian male, wearing a backwards baseball cap, a black T-Shirt, jeans and a pair of large black tennis shoes. Subject strangely comes complete with personal information. Subject prefers to go by the name “Ethan”. It has gone on record stating that it is 25 years of age, a graduate from the Cleveland Institute of Art, and a freelance cartoonist/illustrator. Subject was also able to produce a Home address, a Social Security Number, the names of its parents, and other small bits of information. Efforts to locate the home address have failed, and the Social Security Number does not currently exist. “Ethan” has also expunged details about places its been, and several lifetime accomplishments. When asked about the details of its creation or the identity of its creator, he claims to not know and states that he was “born knowing these things" about himself. Further conversations with SCP-XXX have given more details, but nothing important enough to unravel the enigmatic drawing’s past.

SCP-XXX, being a cartoon drawing, exhibits many typical cartoon traits. Its body squashes and stretches with movement and its facial expressions are accompanied by extreme contortions not possible with human biology. It can stretch its limbs to reach distant objects, produce a figure eight pattern with its feet when moving at extreme speeds, and is seemingly resistant to any form of physical harm. Injuries are portrayed humorously and it reverts to its normal form near-instantly. It is also known to change its outfit at will frequently. Communication with “Ethan” is possible by simply speaking to it. The human ear cannot hear it audibly, but it is capable of understanding human speech and speaks with the use of text bubbles that appear over its head as it speaks. The appearance of the type differs and seems to reflect subject's mood and inflection.

SCP-XXX moves about its page in several interesting ways. If it runs out of view to the left side of the paper, it will reappear on the right. It can run back and forth as well, and its proportions and perspective change accordingly. It has been observed running back to the point where it appears as a speck, and up so close that part of its face takes up the whole page. Its page seems to be a small self-contained environment with its own set of physics and perspective. It cannot, however, transfer to other substances or even other sheets of paper. All attempts at achieving this have failed. As a result, keeping the paper in pristine condition is a top priority with SCP-XXXX, as it has shown to become distressed and flighty in the presence of liquids and other foreign debris.

SCP-XXX has the ability to draw additional items for it to interact with. It does this with his own finger, or multiple fingers depending on object complexity. All items drawn by the subject take on a similar cartoony style, and function with familiar cartoon fundamentals. These items can also be “erased” with the same finger. It is typical to find the page littered with random objects used by the subject. Strangely enough, it cannot interact with drawn humans or animals. When an attempt is made, the drawings remain static and do not move. Sometimes, desired items seem to just come into existence without being drawn. This behavior has yet to be explained. The lack of human interaction within the page is an area of curiosity, although subject is not known to know why this occurs either.

SCP-XXX has a dual nature. A majority of the time, “Ethan” is very friendly. When spoken to, it responds willingly and enthusiastically. It waves at passerby and likes to entertain personnel by performing a comedy act or slapstick routine. It is described as having a very quick wit and is genuinely good-natured. Personnel interact with “Ethan” frequently and it seems to be very popular with some personnel.

However, SCP-XXX has occasional bursts of alarmingly disturbing behavior uncharacteristic of its usual behavior. The biggest of these is its seeming fascination with its own death. Every so often, “Ethan” will draw dangerous weapons and inflict massive amount of cartoon violence on itself with them, only to wind up unharmed. Its blown itself up, slit its own throat, hung itself, cut itself in half, burned itself alive, and fallen from great heights. Sometimes these self-destructive actions are accompanied by ink-like “blood” and the injuries sometimes feature more graphic detail than usual before correcting themselves. Immediately following these incidents, SPC-XXX becomes despondent and seems to disappear from its page for a short time, even though it is normally impossible for it to do so. When asked about these incidents, it will try to avoid the question and change the subject, but other times it doesn't seem aware of these incidents and goes right back to what it was doing prior. These violent tendencies seem to only be self-directed.

Even more disturbing is its tendency to sometimes ask personnel to burn its paper or cause other destruction to its page. Other times, it can be observed trying to escape from the confines of the page by grabbing the edges or running repeatedly through the “barrier”. Also, it has been observed getting right at the front of the page and begin gesturing like its tapping on the glass to flag someone down. The speech bubbles produced during this act usually read “I CAN’T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!” or “KILL ME.” Its appearance often becomes disheveled and unkempt at this point and tears of ink can even be seen staining the paper briefly before dissipating.

Further research is needed to fully understand SCP-XXX's self-destructive tendencies and why they occur so randomly. Further analyzation of the ink that composes its form is also requested to help the Foundation figure out where SCP-XXX originated from. We are trying to determine if anything similar exists elsewhere and if this is the work of something else of interest to the Foundation. SCP-XXX has agreed to a weekly counseling session to work out these issues with a specialist. These periods will also be designated trials to assess SCP-CXXX's abilities to see if it is capable of any other abilities beyond those demonstrated.
