Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-2901 must remain contained in Containment Area [DATA EXPUNGED] within a 100 x 50 x 25 m concrete cell. A platform rising out of a 25 x 10 x 10 m pool of fresh water, measuring 50 x 25 m, is to be covered completely in vegetation native to Victoria, Australia and must remain a minimum of 25 cm thick in order to support SCP-2901’s weight. 128 100Watt UV tube lights are to be installed into the ceiling of SCP-2901’s containment cell and spaced approximately 2 m apart to provide maximum spread of appropriate UV radiation essential to SCP-2901’s physical well being.

The concrete walls of SCP-2901’s containment cell are approximately 84 cm thick and must be inspected for wear once every fortnight to avoid containment breach.

Personnel are only required to enter SCP-2901’s containment cell for scheduled weekly maintenance.
SCP-2901 is to be immediately put to sleep by use of a tranquilizer dart containing 27.5 mL of Etorphine fired directly into the underbelly before any member of personnel is permitted to enter the containment cell unless by request of Research and Development for purposes with Level 4 and above clearance.

SCP-2901’s daily feeding consists of large fish brought into the cell via a 50 cm long metal tube opening into the lowest point of the freshwater pool, and larger mammals placed in the cell by an elevation system installed into the far right corner of the platform.

Description:

SCP-2901 is described as a 5 m long amphibious creature weighing approximately 2500 kg with a thick, brown colored hide and a crocodilian shaped head.
The maul of SCP-2901 measures 64.5 cm and contains two separate rows of pointed teeth, two large tusks protruding from the upper jaw, and a forked tongue with the ability to stretch almost 2.5 m in order to catch underwater prey.

SCP-2901’s eyes are described as doglike in appearance with irises of a bright green pigmentation. A nictitating membrane is present in the inner corner of SCP-2901’s eye used primarily to protect the eye while SCP-2901 is submerged.

Two front legs measuring a total of 1.92 m protrude from SCP-2901’s sides, approximately 14 cm from the shoulder blades, and end in webbed footing that closely resembles that of the common frog. SCP-2901’s hind legs are considerably shorter than the forelegs, measuring a total of 98 cm, and end in similar webbed footing, yet are both thicker and longer than the forefeet. The majority of the muscle mass in SCP-2901’s body is situated within and around the hind legs, as these are the main limbs used for propulsion both while submerged and on land.

SCP-2901 has a long, crocodilian tail measuring exactly half of SCP-2901’s complete body length. The tail itself has retractable fins running along the tip, approximately 52 cm long and 37 cm wide.

While submerged, SCP-2901 has been recorded to swim at speeds over 100 km/ph when using a combination of all five limbs, however only exhibits this when its territory is threatened. SCP-2901 often only swims using its hind legs and tail to propel and forelegs to direct and has been documented to swim up to 985 km without rest.

When SCP-2901 emerges from water and begins to travel on foot, both the webbings of the hind and forefeet appear to shrivel and disintegrate within the frame of 47 seconds after becoming dry. This enables SCP-2901 to maneuver on land with as much speed and agility as when submerged underwater.

SCP-2901’s hide contains chromophoric chemicals enabling it to manipulate the pigmentation to further blend into the surrounding environment.

The sounds emitted by SCP-2901 resemble that of a Koala but are quite louder and of a lower octave. SCP-2901 has only ever been recorded making sounds when either hungry or threatened.

Addendum-1

SCP-2901 has been noted to be extremely hostile towards any living human, though especially towards young children.
SCP-2901 instantaneously peruses any and all human beings within immediate proximity of its territory and has even been reported to jump over 34 m in order to apprehend human trespassers.
After initial capture of the human/s within its territory, SCP-2901 begins to dismember and consume all parts of the body; including bones.

Addendum-2

SCP-2901’s natural habitat before capture by Agent [DATA EXPUNGED] was the entirety of the Murray River; a 2,508 km long river that runs through both Victoria and New South Wales.
It is believed that SCP-2901’s hostility towards human beings is the byproduct of negative human interaction due to the habitat itself running through numerous popular holiday destinations.

Addendum-3

Accounts of SCP-2901 have been recorded on many separate occasions throughout Australian history; the first of which dating back approximately two thousand years in the form of a rock carving founded by The Australiasian newspaper in 1851.
Among the numerous accounts of sightings, SCP-2901 has also been included in Aboriginal Mythology.

Addendum-4

The researched accounts of reported SCP-2901 sightings do not often appear to be true, however the sheer number of accounts alone insinuates the possibility of other creatures like SCP-2901.

Addendum-5

The most accurate recording of SCP-2901 to date is “The Challicum Bunyip” [the name given to
the rock carving noted in Addendum-3]. The carving has since been removed from the public by the Foundation.

Addendum-6

SCP-2901 was reported to be responsible for over 220 missing persons cases before capture in 1999.
62% of SCP-2901’s victims were young children aged between 2 and 12 and were mostly female.
