SCP-1334 found in a forest prior to containment

Item #: SCP-1334

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1334 is to be contained in a greenhouse constructed using bullet-proof glass. It is to be observed with a camera that can be recharged using solar means. In case of containment breach, all personnel are ordered to evacuate the site and 1334-SRB1 is to be dispatched immediately. 1334-SRB should go through maintenance every 2 months. Any object entering the containment chamber is to be thoroughly checked for any plant-eating pests. No humans are allowed to enter the containment chamber without Level-3 clearance.

Description: SCP-1334 is an unidentified carnivorous species of flora. Its fruits resemble a weeping human face. It has a central stem which stands at 2 meters tall and the fruits only grow on the foliage that is near the stem on a 2 meter radius. Its roots come out of the ground 3 meter from the central stem and starts spreading on the ground. Once the roots have spread enough, new peripheral stems will start growing on the roots but they will not act as individual plants. (See Addendum-1334-A). SCP-1334’s anomalous properties begin to manifest when a sapient being is approximately 2 meters close to any of the peripheral stems.
The peripheral stems grow at a rate of 10cm per day and the roots spread at 25cm per day. The peripheral stems stop growing at 1.5 meters. If the roots encounter a wall then it will start climbing the wall unless it is made of a smooth surface, like glass. If the roots climb a wall, it is noted that the stems do not grow unless it is on flat ground. Normal plant-eating pests are able to eat SCP-1334. All tests with insects are banned indefinitely.(See Addendum-1334-B).

When a sapient being is introduced to the affecting area of SCP-1334, it will go through 3 stages before being trapped and consumed by the plant. The reasons for SCP-1334's need to devour sapient beings are still not known. A new fruit will grow on the plant once a sapient being has been consumed, its weeping face looking similar to the being that was consumed.

  • Stage 1: The fruits of SCP-1334 will start shaking and emitting noises similar to human crying. Scientists are not able to confirm how the fruits are able to make these noises as the fruits will vibrate rigorously, emitting sound capable of rupturing internal organs, and immediately dries up and turns to dust as soon as they are plucked from the central stem. According to interviews, once the sapient being hears the crying of the plant, it will be made to believe that the cry is originating from one of their loved ones, even though it can clearly see SCP-1334 in front of it.
  • Stage 2: Approximately 5 minutes after the subject has heard the cry, it will get the urge to recover their 'loved one' from the central stem. This will trigger a reaction which causes adrenaline to be released and the subject will move towards the central plant in alarming speeds. Once the subject is about 6 meters close to the central stem and is standing on the roots, the crying immediately ceases and the subject returns to its normal state. While the subject is confused about how it got there, the roots would have already wound itself around the subject’s leg, trapping it. The mechanism of how the roots do this needs more research but it’s confirmed that it’s somewhat similar to the mechanism of carnivorous plants found on earth.
  • Stage 3: Once the subject is trapped, the roots will wound around the subject completely and release [DATA REDACTED], completely liquefying the subject’s body. After which SCP-1334 will absorb the subject using its roots. It is still unknown how it produces this chemical. After absorption, no traces of the subject will be found, including its possessions.

Recovery: SCP-1334 was found in the forest of [REDACTED] near the village [REDACTED]. The Foundation came to know of the organism after reports of people going missing from the village and no traces of them being found later on. After retrieving SCP-1334 and containing it, Class-C amnestics were given to everyone who knew about the incident and false memories implanted. When SCP-1334 was found, there were more than 50 fruits on it. 51 people disappeared from the village near the forest. The first person who disappeared, called Dr. ███████ █████,was reported to be an abnormal person. The doctor being the reason for SCP-1334’s appearance is plausible, but it has not been confirmed. (Personnel with Level 4 clearance please refer to Addendum 1334-C).

Addendum 1334-A: Test log 1334 Test A - ██/██/09

Procedure: 1334-SRB Collector was sent inside the containment chamber to collect a root of SCP-1334.
Results: All peripheral stems connected to that particular root died immediately and turned to dust. Analysis of dust were unable to reveal anything that is not already known.
Analysis: As of said date, the peripheral stems are considered dependent on the central stem for its survival.

Addendum 1334-B: Test log 1334
Test B - ██/██/09

Procedure: A test was done to see if insects can be used to control the growth of SCP-1334 in case of a containment breach. 5 males and 5 females of Diaprepes abbreviatus, more commonly known as 'Root weevils', were introduced into the containment chamber.
Results: The insect growth exploded rapidly in the containment chamber, after spraying pesticides more than 5000 of them were found in the containment chamber. All of the peripheral stems were killed and the central stem was highly under nourished. SCP-1334 recovered after 12 days of extensive care. All tests with insects are permanently banned.
