Item #: SCP-XXXX "Ghost in the machine"

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to remain at Site 16-A within a reinforced steel room. All electrical items will be banned within a hundred meter radius of the room and enforced strictly. All personnel in direct contact with SCP-XXXX-A are to submit weekly for psychological evaluations by an on-site psychotherapist. No more than two personnel are to be in direct contact with SCP-XXXX-A at any one time. All personnel must wear biohazard suits when dealing with SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-A at all times.

In the event of a breach a trained Agent in Computer Science will attempt to make contact with SCP-XXXX-A via a designated chatroom site. Site 16-A will remain on lockdown with all electrical equipment neutralized. If SCP-XXXX-A retrieval is unsuccessful contingency Hecate will be enforced. This will be authorized via carrier pigeon from the O5 council to Site 16-A.

Description:

SCP-XXXX is a standard Laptop consistent with those from the 21st Century. The front screen shows damage consistent with lightning strikes. Chargers or other items consistent with such technology have been shown to have no effect upon SCP-XXXX.

In its dormant state SCP-XXXX has been shown to have no anomalous effects. In all appearances it resembles a laptop completely and can be approached safely by any personnel. Its active state lasts for approximately twelve standard hours each day. Beginning with the screen powering on of its own accord after a period of approximately 20 minutes a voice will be heard from the computer. This directly precedes the instance of SCP-XXXX-A manifesting.

SCP-XXXX-A takes the form of a humanoid female in the late teens. Manifesting as a holographic image SCP-XXXX-A will remain in close proximity to SCP-XXXX throughout its active cycle. This image shows sentient properties and will speak with little or no coercion. Interviews have shown that SCP-XXXX-A believes itself to be a female Jane Doe found in 2000s. It has given detailed accounts consistent with police reports from the incident and has (REDACTED). Information has been passed to the correct authorities who have used it to successfully close the case.

SCP-XXXX-A has passed the Turing test and appears to be cordial, willing to co-operate in all tests asked of it. The only exception is when questioned about the incident mentioned above. When questioned SCP-XXXX-A becomes increasingly distressed and will attack in the form of telepathic waves. This causes severe emotional distress in all personnel in a fifty mile radius, inducing immediate harmful actions. Suicide rates will typically increase by 65% in all affected with the only known treatment being immediate removal from the area of influence.

If direct physical contact with SCP-XXXX is made SCP-XXXX-A is capable of immediately transferring themselves from SCP-XXXX into their body. Once transferred SCP-XXXX-A can erase all personality traits the host possesses and take complete control. This is intentional on SCP-XXXX-A’s part as several D-class subjects possessed by SCP-XXXX-A have been released with minimal long-term damage.

During possession SCP-XXXX-A can cause severe physical harm to the host, rerouting all pain impulses to the suppressed consciousness. Only one known incident has been observed during the first breach yet it is to be assumed that SCP-XXXX-A is responsible for at least seven unexplained deaths. Once a host is unable to continue basic motor functions SCP-XXXX-A will proceed to transfer from the host into electrical appliances. If appliances have internet connection it is to be assumed that SCP-XXXX-A would be able to escape with recovery being at that point impossible.
