Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 4 m×3 m×2.5 m chamber of 4 cm thick concrete walls with a 2 cm thick steel door and a polarized plexiglass observation window. Access to SCP-XXXX is restricted to authorized personnel. Any handling of SCP-XXXX must be done with thick rubber gloves. No exposed skin is allowed to come into contact with SCP-XXXX except for testing purposes. All ventilation for SCP-XXXX's chamber must be switched to recycled air when SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 appear. SCP-XXXX's chamber must be inspected weekly for degradation. Inspections will include immediate replacement of degraded walls. Testing of SCP-XXXX is to be limited to 3 uses within a 2 hour time period.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a medallion depicting the Yin and Yang. SCP-XXXX is 1cm thick with a diameter of 10.5cm and is composed of gold and obsidian. Carved on the back of the medallion are the words "給雅閣,給你們。", which roughly translates to "Give to the Yaoguai, and it shall give to you.". Blood stains are present within the carved symbols. Analysis of DNA recovered from the dried blood is inconclusive. Radiometric age dating tests reveal it to be 237 years old. SCP-XXXX was found in ███, China on █/█/03. SCP-XXXX was relocated from Himalayan archeological dig to Site ██. SCP-XXXX was discovered after reports of [REDACTED], and caught the attention of the Foundation.

When SCP-XXXX comes into direct physical contact with a human, SCP-XXXX will emit an intense flash of light that will engulf the subject. After the flash, subject will have disappeared. 10 seconds after subject's disappearance, two masses emerge from SCP-XXXX as vapor and energy. These vapors and energy form two separate entities, identified as SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX-1 has a faceless humanoid form that resembles the subject, and seems to be made entirely of light. Looking directly at SCP-XXXX-1 will lead to irritation and damage of the eyes, and blindness if watched for a continuous period of time. Personnel near SCP-XXXX-1 report having an intense feeling of positivity and joy, and have said they felt a comforting warmth emitting from within them. SCP-XXXX-2 also has a faceless humanoid form that resembles the subject, but is composed of shadow. Analysis has shown that light bends away from SCP-XXXX-2, though some light is absorbed to create a black color. The reason for why some light can be absorbed while most is distorted away is unknown. This process creates it's appearance as a semi-invisible darkness or shadow. Black smoke rises from SCP-XXXX-2 near the shoulders. The area approximately 60cm around it is of a darker coloration, an illusion caused by distortions of light. Personnel near SCP-XXXX-2 have reported an increasing sense of dread, hatred, anger, and depression, and have said that the area around them is cold and gives a feeling of emptiness.

Having materialized, SCP-XXXX-1 and -2 proceed to engage in physical combat, using a style of martial arts identified as sharing elements with traditional Chinese styles including Tai Chi. Each entity's strength is directly linked to the subjects personality. If the subject is usually calm, SCP-XXXX-1 is stronger and invariably wins. If the subject has an aggressive or spiteful personality SCP-XXXX-2 is stronger and will invariably win. Combat typically lasts for around 5 minutes, ending with one entity victorious. Once the conflict is over both entities recede into SCP-XXXX (SCP-XXXX-1 into the Yin, and SCP-XXXX-2 into the Yang). Five seconds after recession, SCP-XXXX will emit another flash of light and subject will reappear with no signs of physical trauma. All subjects report having no recollection of what happened while they were gone.

If the conflict concludes with SCP-XXXX-1 victorious, subject is now SCP-XXXX-A. After reappearance SCP-XXXX-As are calm and docile. Subjects report having an overwhelming feeling of what they can only describe as harmony and joy. SCP-XXXX-As have an altered case of mania, showing only signs of heightened mood without symptoms of irritability or violence. Because of this, SCP-XXXX-As are in a constant euphoric state. Attempts to anger SCP-XXXX-A's are unsuccessful.

If the conflict condudes with SCP-XXXX-2 victorious, subject is now SCP-XXXX-B. After reappearance, SCP-XXXX-Bs are aggressive and hostile towards all personnel. Psychiatric testing proved patients to be short tempered and malicious. Aggressiveness is at a high level, with any slight irritation leading to murderous intent. Tests designed to relax SCP-XXXX-Bs are unsuccessful. Any attempt to calm SCP-XXXX-Bs are viewed negatively and throw SCP-XXXX-B into a thrashing rage. Non-lethal measures to bring SCP-XXXX-B out of an enraged state are unsuccessful and assault to personnel by SCP-XXXX-Bs is common. When SCP-XXXX-Bs enter an enraged state subjects lose all self control and attack anyone in sight. Tests reveal that all nociceptors1 on subjects cease function during an enraged state, making subjects unresponsive to pain. Subjects continue to attack until they are killed or become physically unable to, usually from all limbs becoming unusable or removed (see Incident-XXXX-3). Subjects cause severe collateral damage to themselves whilst in an enraged state, and self-caused death is common. If retrieved, subjects are to be on constant sedation and given full-body restraints. When sedated, SCP-XXXX-Bs show cases of heavy depression as well as mood swings between anger and sorrow. Suicide attempts have been observed during this phase.

After a period of five hours, SCP-XXXX-As and -Bs conditions rapidly become stronger. SCP-XXXX-As descend into a severe state of delirium and are oblivious of their surroundings. Subjects have been observed muttering to themselves, seeing hallucinations, and having bursts of spontaneous laughter. After two hours hysteria quickly worsens. Subjects neglect personal needs such as consumption, hydration, sleep, defecation, and urination. Any substituted nutrients provided such as IV drip and medication have no effect on SCP-XXXX-As at this point. 12 hours later SCP-XXXX-As experience mass organ failure and expire.

After five hours, SCP-XXXX-Bs enter a constant state of rage. Bone density and muscle mass grow exponentially during this period and continue to grow at an accelerated rate. Subjects show extreme aggression towards personnel and will go through any means necessary to assault them. This includes breaking open sealed doors, removing limbs to use as weapons, and dislocation of joints to move through small spaces. SCP-XXXX-Bs usually kill victims by ripping them apart from the stomach, although other methods have been observed. SCP-XXXX-Bs do not exit their enraged state until termination by Foundation personnel or until two hours have passed. Approximately two hours after the start of SCP-XXXX-Bs' constant rage state, bone density and muscle mass will have grown too large for the body to contain, and subjects are ripped apart. This process kills SCP-XXXX-Bs.

Once deceased, the bodies of subjects become unstable and begin to decay at a hyper-accelerated rate until only energy (in instance of SCP-XXXX-A) or vapors (in instance of SCP-XXXX-B) remain. This process typically lasts around 10 minutes. The energy or vapors are then drawn to SCP-XXXX, phasing through any matter in their path. The residual material is absorbed into SCP-XXXX upon contact.

Experimentation with SCP-XXXX has revealed that inanimate objects, plants, and animals other than humans are unaffected by SCP-XXXX. Attempts to separate and isolate SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 have proved unsuccessful. If managed to be moved away from each other, SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 phase through all matter in their way until they reunite in combat. SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2's behavior during this demonstrates each possessing an innate sense of each other's location as both entities will travel in a straight line directly towards each other if separated. Attempts to intervene during conflict result in severe injuries and death from crossfire, with ██ D-Class personnel having been lost this way. The historical origins of SCP-XXXX are believed to be [DATA EXPUNGED], but it's link to such an event is unconfirmed.

Test logs of SCP-XXXX reveal direct connections to natural disasters. Recorded time stamps of subject reappearances are correspondent with recorded times of natural disasters. This link has been tested and confirmed to be present only after multiple uses of SCP-XXXX within a 2 hour time period. The amount of uses to trigger this anomalous effect is uncertain. Recorded instances have been observed to occur from the amount of uses ranging from 10 to 31 times within 2 hours. SCP-XXXXs anomalous effect on natural disasters is believed to be responsible for [DATA EXPUNGED], [DATA EXPUNGED], [DATA EXPUNGED], [DATE EXPUNGED], and [DATA EXPUNGED]. The anomalous effect of the subjects reappearance on natural disasters is compliant with the current theory on the origin of SCP-XXXX and [REDACTED].

Dr. █████ has requested suspending activities involving SCP-XXXX until methods have been created to predict anomalous natural disaster locations and evacuations of said areas. Request is currently awaiting approval from O5-█.
