Item #: SCP-xxxx

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Due to its dormant benign nature SCP-xxxx requires minimal security and currently has no quarantine procedures in place. During examination one should avoid placing electronic devices inside the object whenever possible, and should never attempt to seal it. Approval of a level 2 personnel is required to transport the object.

Description: SCP-xxxx is a container 60cm tall and at its widest point 35cm in diameter. The container is primarily ceramic, with the only other material present being a thin bronze coating along the outside. In appearance it closely resembles the pottery of post-Neolithic Greece and Asia Minor (specifically the 'pithos') though it deviates slightly in several aspects, specifically the relatively small size and non-traditional bronze coating. Additionally, in the █████ report the use of rehydroxylation dating showed the ceramic material to be over 10,000years old, 2,000 years before the advent of pottery in the region and 4,500 years before the Bronze Age.

The surfaces are extraordinarily strong considering their normal chemical composition and show very few signs of degradation, apparently preserved through undetectable means. The inner 'chamber' of the object does, however, features many deep, straight scratches with no discernible organization. In her initial analysis submitted alongside the █████ report, Dr. ████ ████████ noted "The markings are far too precise to be organic, and judging by the materials' unusual properties could not have been made by any tool or engraving method available at the time. […] The markings are mostly clustered together in groups of two to six lines, all appearing to have been made with one quick, smooth motion. This combined with the irregular placement resemble something much closer to a frightened animal than any etching process, though the varying depth, size, and spacings of the clusters suggest at least 9 unique sources."

Most notable about SPC-xxxx is the inner chamber. Though only 60cm tall on the outside and half as wide, the space contained within the object is significantly larger at 2 (two) meters tall and just over 1 (one) meter wide, with the proportions and shape of the chamber matching those of the outside. All tests to determine how this effect is achieved have been inconclusive, and the cause is still unknown. Investigations of the chamber have been hampered by its tendency to omit heavy electromagnetic interference, often disabling and/or damaging the instruments used. Following the events of ██████████ █ it was determined that electronics should be kept out of the chamber and no attempt should be made to seal off the opening of the container (the latter being owed specifically to the 'reactions' observed in subjects 2-5).
