Item #: SCP-ABCD

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: No containment procedures have yet been developed for SCP-ABCD. Not enough is known of the nature of the phenomena collectively known as "Major Neutron's Adventure Playset" for a plausible set of procedures to be developed as this time. Any attempts at recreating the video portion of SCP-ABCD, including re-enactments using human or non-human sentients, recording and playback of said re-enactments, or use of computer or other animation techniques, are forbidden.

Description: SCP-ABCD is a set of linked phenomena centered around a set of apparent television commercials that appear on a limited number of television sets (and in later iterations, various other devices capable of playback of streaming video signals) over an area of approximately 700 square kilometers, on an intermittent basis for a period of 3 months. The first instance of SCP-ABCD known occurred on 4/23/1958, centered around Kansas City, Kansas, USA. Those who witness one of these commercials are known as "SCP-ABCD-x". The first witness ("SCP-ABCD-1" below) was brought to the Foundation's attention after he reported his experience to Dr. ████████, a Senior Researcher employed at SCP at the time. SCP-ABCD-1 presented Dr. ████████ with a composition book filled with detailed descriptions of SCP-███, SCP-███, and SCP-████, in his own handwriting. These descriptions were accurate, but did not match the writings of any Foundation researcher or any Foundation data entry, although they conformed to the format used by the Foundation in its databases.

Subject ████ ████████, henceforth, "SCP-ABCD-1", age 10

Interviewer: Senior Researcher Dr. ██████ ████████

Foreword: Interview performed at the home of Dr. ████████, after ████ told him about seeing a "Major Neutron's Adventure Playset" commercial before going to sleep the evening before.

<Begin Log, 4/25/1958, 18:06 EST>

Dr. ████████: So tell me, ████, tell me and the tape about the strange ad you saw last night.

SCP-ABCD-1: Um, it came on right after the flag and the anthem came on TV..I was kind of asleep before. It was real loud and woke me up. The guy was talking about "Major Neutron's Adventure Playset" over and over and there were two kids playing with these rocket ships and dolls around some cardboard thing.

Dr. ████████: What happened next?

SCP-ABCD-1: Then the commercial got all quiet and it looked like the camera was looking out of one of the kids' eyes.

Dr. ████████: How so?

SCP-ABCD-1: Well he looked down at his hands, and he was looking at this friend, and then he turned around to go out the room. He walked into a dark hallway, then started going down some stairs. Then the TV went black and there was no sound.

Dr. ████████: How did that make you feel?

SCP-ABCD-1: I was scared and I wanted to go to my room, but I couldn't move. Then there was a noise from the TV, it was like teeth chomping, really loud.

Dr. ████████: How long did this go on?

SCP-ABCD-1: I don't know. Maybe a few minutes? Then the TV turned off.

Dr. ████████: It turned itself off?

SCP-ABCD-1: Yeah, I heard it click. Then I went to my room and got ready for bed.

Dr. ████████: You went to sleep?

SCP-ABCD-1: Yeah, then I dreamed the thing on TV.

Dr. ████████: The commercial?

SCP-ABCD-1: No, just the part where you could see out the kid's eyes. I was playing with ████ with the rockets and the dolls and the playset thing was in the middle of my room. Then I turned away and walked out my room and went down the stairs and I fell. I kept falling and falling. All I could hear was me bouncing against the stairs in the dark. Then I stopped. I didn't hit anything. I just stopped. Then the crunching…it just kept going on and on, so wet sounding. So wet…

Dr. ████████: So when did you write all those nonsense things in your journal?

SCP-ABCD-1:I don't remember doing it. (SUBJECT SOBS) All that stuff was there when I went to write for class this morning. (YELLING) Where did it come from, ███, what is that talking about?

Dr. ████████: We will try to find out! Now calm down! (PAUSE) Thank you, ████.

Conclusion: Further investigation by field agents found 7 other children who had experienced the "Major Neutron" commerical in the Kansas City area. All had a dream highly similar to SCP-ABCD-1. No adults were have found to have seen "Major Neutron." It seems that the "commercial" was only seen by a very limited number of viewers, and it cannot be considered a standard broadcast. No other instances of production of artifacts indicating anomalous knowledge of Foundation data were associated with the other 7 children who viewed "Major Neutron."

On 7/13/1958, Field Researcher ████ ████ found that a 1/4" reel-to-reel tape recording device was in use at the home of SCP-ABCD-6 on a regular basis, as his father was fond of making audio recordings of television broadcasts. He managed to obtain a tape which recorded the audio of the Major Neutron commercial.

Similar incidents have happened at least 9 times since the first occurrence, in the USA, Canada, UK and Ireland. Each iteration of SCP-ABCD has been noted to change in exact name of the product advertised, but children always mention a "Major Neutron" in the announcer's pitch. Three examples:
  • 1970, Croydon, UK:"Super Force Playset"
  • 1979, Ontario, Canada:"Star Command Playset"
  • 1996, Chicago, USA: "Major Neutron's Rangerforce Command Set"

Interviews with instances of SCP-ABCD-x are consistent with the idea that the toys in the commercial and their dreams are contemporary "space toys," even though no such toys, in any of the iterations of SCP-ABCD to date, exist for sale, or even as concepts at any toy company known to the Foundation.

Each iteration of SCP-ABCD has come to the attention of the foundation due to the first instance of SCP-ABCD-x in each iteration producing a document similar to the composition book text produced by SCP-ABCD-1. Each document details 3 SCP protocols current to the Foundation at the time of it's discovery. No instance of SCP-ABCD-x has demonstrated any knowledge about the Foundation beyond the document they produced.

Instances of SCP-ABCD-x are between 6 and 10 years of age, equally divided by sex, and not concentrated in any particular racial or socioeconomic group. They are all native English speakers. Within 20 years of exposure, 100% of instances have pursued careers in the television and film industry or the military. Many are in top positions in these fields:

  • General ███ █████, USA
  • General █████ ███████, UK
  • █████ ████████, film/television director, CEO of ██████████
  • ███ █████ film and television actor, publically noted follower of "NeoDynamics" self-help movement/cult.

SIU 7, "Fearless Ferrets" is tasked with detecting new iterations of SCP-ABCD and collecting information on them as they appear. Scans of social media and SMS messaging have made this task far easier than it was until recently.

Addenda:
1) A more recent partial video recording of one of SCP-ABCD's "commercials" has been discovered from an instance occurring in Minneapolis, USA during the spring of 1984.

2) Senior Researcher Dr. Anunciacion Garcia attempted to recreate the video portion of SCP-ABCD at Facility 251.

The results of these experiments have led to a complete moratorium on further attempts.
