SCP-XXXX Before being contained in Site 104

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a colossal bird cage and wings are to be trimmed every a fortnight. Four security sentinels must be armed with tranquilizers and are to circumvent a clear plastic container over SCP-XXXX's cage. The deployment of D-Class personnel in order to carry out feeding through the providing of wildlife carcasses is to be done three times a week. Any activities connected to direct research involving SCP-XXXX are to be carried out with a previous sedation of the entity. Any personnel affected by the secondary anomalous effect are to be quarantined and monitored within the on-site medical facility. Any new information regarding SCP-XXXX must be brought to the ornithologist in charge of it.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a bird of prey that resembles a species of California condor (Gymnogyps californianus) that stands 1.3 m tall and has a wingspan of 2.8 m. Unlike most condors, SCP-XXXX holds an abnormal defense and hunting mechanism. Its salivary glands are able to produce a deadly pathogen that can infect others through bites. While most condors scavenge for food SCP-XXXX uses this pathogen to its advantage by using it as a type of venom to hunt. Once it bites its prey, the pathogen will take its course while SCP-XXXX proceeds to stalk its prey until it would perish; upon where it will begin to consume its prey.

SCP-XXXX was first reported in the forest of ███████████ park in California. After several reports of missing hikers, undercover agent ██████ was called in to search for any signs of anomalous activity. After stumbling upon a large pile of feathers, agent ██████ discovered the remains of one of the missing hikers within the pile. Recovery teams were sent to locate the SCP and the bodies of the other hikers. The body of the hikers were sent to the autopsy room in Site-104 to identify what caused the death of the hikers. Researchers studying the corpses discovered the bite mark of a bird that caused what appeared to be a pathogen to spread throughout the entire body.

Incident Log XXXX-A

When SCP-XXXX first arrived at site 104, ornithologist Dr. ██████ was discovered to have been attacked by SCP-XXXX while observing it in its cage. When the site medic team arrived to aid Dr. ██████ injuries, it was discovered that Dr. ██████ was infected with the same pathogen that the hikers died from and was soon quarantined. Surprisingly, Dr. ██████ reacted by not panicked but requested a tape recorder with him at all times while in quarantine to record the effects of the disease. With more observation of Dr. ██████, researchers discovered that after 6 hours from said bite the victim will begin to grow feathers across their body which seems to be extremely painful. After the death of Dr. ██████, medical staff equipped with hazard suits proceeded to incinerate Dr. ██████ corpse.

Dr. ██████ : I am recording notes on the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX's bite in order to let the facility understand how the pathogen works from a person's point of view. I am very aware that I am going to perish soon like the victims found at ███████████ park. Since my incident with SCP-XXXX around 34 minutes ago, the area where I was bitten at has swollen with what I believe is pus. My vision, hearing, and breathing are unaffected. Temperature is around 37oC.

Dr. ██████ : The pathogen appears to work very quickly. I have begun to feel a discomfort around my sternum and a bit of nausea. I have also experienced rapid coughing fits indicating that my respiratory system has been compromised by SCP-XXXX pathogen. I hypothesize that when SCP-XXXX infects its victims, victims can spread the pathogen through air due to the respiratory system being affected by the pathogen.

Dr. ██████ : (coughs)

Dr. ██████ :Vision along with hearing, has begun to fade proving that the pathogen is affecting my central nervous systems. Breathing right now is currently difficult but has not gone to the point where it is painful. Temperature is around 39.3oC.

Audio Entry #3
Time- 2318

Dr. ██████ : I have begun to grow feathers much like the victims found at ███████████ park which is extremely painful. The feathers also have a horrible stench coming from them. I hypothesize that the smell emitted by the feathers helped SCP-XXXX track of its prey. My vision is blurry, but I can still see. My current temperature is now 41.4oC…

Dr. ██████ : (places hand on chest indicating pain)

Dr. ██████ : The pain in my chest has increased more and has gone to the point where it is extremely painful to even breathe. I can barely hear anything anymore. I found blood in my urine, feces, and vomit today proving the pathogen is affecting my gastrointestinal tract. I feel lamentable that those victims had to go through this horrendous pain.

Audio Entry #4
Time- 0500

Dr. ██████ : I awoke to the pain of my chest, it feels like something is about to burst out of it.

Dr. ██████ : (agonal respiration)

Dr. ██████ : Breathing is now very difficult to do and is more painful than before. Almost all of my body is covered in feathers signaling that the end is near.

Dr. ██████ : (agonal respiration)

Dr.████████ gave me something to reduce the chest pain, but it failed. With this new information, I can prove that the pathogen has now entered my immune system. My vision is to the point where it is almost gone and my hearing is completely gone. Dr. Layton tells me that my temperature is now at an alarming 46.3oC.

Dr. ██████ : I wis… (coughs violently)

Dr. ██████ : I wish I could hear and see my wife and children one last time before I perish and have the chance to tell them that I love them.

Dr. ██████ : This is my last entry.

Dr. ██████ : (loud bumping noise)

Dr. ██████ : (violent coughing followed by vomiting)
