Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained in the former Global Projection System facility, now Facility XXXX. The object is attached to the ceiling by a central steel pillar which runs through the centre of the object and connects with the floor. Around the object are six mobile platforms, two of which are manned platforms, two of which can be remotely operated, and two of which are automatically controlled by the SCP-XXXX observation computer. Surrounding the object is a one metre thick continuous sheet of glass firmly attached to the walls at twelve points by steel supports.

In the event of any major containment breach, the surrounding glass is to be blacked out to prevent observation of the object. Simultaneously, all researchers present in the chamber are to be evacuated to a secure holding area not connected to the main facility. During this period, object class can be considered Keter.

If an XK-Class scenario is detected, SCP-XXXX is to be destroyed immediately.

Following Incident XXXX-2 the object is not to be destroyed or tampered with in any way for any reason whatsoever. In the event of an XK-Class scenario SCP-XXXX is to be considered a priority one object and should be protected no matter what the cost.

If an XK-Class scenario is detected, SCP-XXXX is to be destroyed immediately.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a sphere of radius ten metres. On the surface of the sphere is a three dimensional map of planet Earth which updates in real time. The method through which the object achieves this projection is not understood, however testing has verified it's accuracy repeatedly. The cut-off height of projection appears to be around 10,000 metres but is generally inconsistent.

SCP-XXXX was constructed by Foundation researchers using recovered data from the [DATA EXPUNGED] incidents dating 19██ through 20██. While the vast majority of recovered information has yet to be fully understood, enough had been decoded by 20██ to begin construction on SCP-XXXX. After construction was finished in 20██ the object was known as the Global Projection System and was maintained and operated by the Foundation as a tool for discovering and containing SCP objects for eight years until the events of incident XXXX-2 when the object was reclassified as an SCP and the Global Projection System observation facility was redesigned into a SCP containment facility.

Although the changes in the object incurred by Incident XXXX-2 no longer apply (refer to Addendum XXXX-2-1) and the object is no longer considered dangerous, the decision has been made to maintain the object's SCP status until further notice.

The object continues to prove invaluable for discovering and containing new anomalous objects and events and has led to the successful containment of over ███ objects to date.

Incident XXXX-2

On the date of ████████ researchers working on improving the Global Projection System performed an upgrade using newly discovered data from the initial incidents, known as the Resonance Synchroniser (RS, later classified as SCP-XXXX-1). Twenty-five minutes after the attachment, reports were passed on to the Global Projection System facility of an earthquake in █████ measuring ██ and causing an ensuing tsunami which resulted in the deaths of over █████ civilians.

Following some additional tests the nature of SCP XXXX with SCP XXXX-1 attached was established and plans to remove the device were put in place. Upon the first attempt, it was learned that SCP-XXXX-1 had merged with the technology of the [DATA EXPUNGED] in a way not yet understood, meaning that removal of the unit and subsequently attached parts could result in a catastrophe far greater than the events of ████████. Following a vote of the O-5 council, the decision was made to leave the object as is, and reclassify the Global Projection System as SCP-XXXX.

A containment facility was constructed in the former Global Projection System research facility and the current containment procedures were devised. Researcher ████ who had been responsible for overseeing the addition of SCP-XXXX-1 was found dead having apparently committed suicide by hanging in his home two days later. Refer to document SCP-XXXX-Note for more information.

Document SCP-XXXX-Note

Suicide note of Researcher ████ recovered from his office the morning after his body was discovered.

It is obvious to me now why the Resonance Synchroniser could never work in the way it was designed and why it was therefore excluded from the plans we recovered on [DATA EXPUNGED]. It was my idea to attempt to merge the plans for the Synchroniser with the Global Projection System in the first place, to try and create a program wherein we could perform low level maintenance on unmanned containment facilities across the globe from the control room of the System.

I don't particularly feel like explaining why the RS could never work on microscopic and not macroscopic levels simultaneously and why I was so blind and dumb that I could not see that. It wasn't until after the Synchroniser was attached that it became obvious to me why the [DATA EXPUNGED] was left in the way it was by █████ when the entire thing clinked together like it was always meant to be. I have no idea how to remove it now, and trying will almost definitely leave me with far more blood on my hands.

I choose this way out because there is nothing I can do in my life that will ever atone for what I have done here. I do not believe a solution can be engineered to remove the Resonance Synchroniser without loss of life before something far worse happens to the object. I do not wish to live to see either possible outcome.

I can only hope I am remembered for my positive contributions to the Foundation before what I have done here.

Upon discovery of his body Researcher █████ was posthumously stripped of his title and honours awarded at the Foundation during his service citing gross negligence.

Addendum XXXX-2-1

As of 20██, the possibility of an earthquake of natural causes is growing higher in the [DATA EXPUNGED] area. The outcome of this event would almost certainly be cataclysmic for life on Earth and would likely cause a fracture of the planet into multiple shards. A second vote on the issue of removing SCP-XXXX-1 as soon as possible is pending the attention of the O-5 council.

Addendum XXXX-2-2

Following a vote by the O-5 council on ████████, SCP-XXXX-1 has been removed from SCP-XXXX. This action has led to [DATA EXPUNGED] considered acceptable losses faced with the possibility of a much larger disaster. The decision has been taken to leave the status of SCP-XXXX as an SCP in tact and downgrade its object class from Keter to Euclid pending confirmation of safety of the object. The object appears to now behave as it did upon initial construction, and no further modifications are to be made without Level 5 approval.
