SCP 3471: The Season Jay

Item #: 3471

Classification: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP 3471 is to be locked in a 20x16 room, with no barred doors, and a simulation akin to a garden inside. SCP 3471's cell is to contain no reflective surfaces, and the subject is to be fed hourly via a seed tube installed in the roof. No worker is to enter SCP 3471's room without clearance, and light protection goggles. When handling SCP 3471, workers are not to attempt to pet the bird, or in any way show affection to it. SCP 3471 is also to be outfitted with a special collar AT ALL TIMES. This is to show its location should it attempt to camouflage itself, or as Doctor CLASSIFIED theorizes, change its feathers to a color that doesn't exist. SCP 3471 is to be held in a cage, with gaps between bars measuring 20cm. Bars must be coated with anti-reflective coating hourly. SCP 3471 is to be fed Acorns, and insects when hungry.

Description: Similar to a Blue Jay in size and form, this specific avian has one difference: the coloration of its feathers. Akin to its name, SCP 3471 can and will change the color of its feathers at will, though, over a year of observation and study by Doctor CLASSIFIED, it seems to do this based on the season. The avian has been observed changing the coloration of its feathers to a bright orange, and deep purple at times. In order to seemingly defend itself, the avian has been observed to shift coloration similarly to a chameleon, to avoid detection. A worker, while handling SCP 3471, agitated it, and it began attempting to escape containment. SCP 3471 appeared to flashbang the worker handling it, and attempt to fly through a grate. This worker is now permanently blind, and has been forced to retire. SCP 3471 was sedated, and relocated to a containment unit with no reflective surfaces. At other times. SCP 3471 appears to simply disappear. How it does this is unknown, but Doctor CLASSIFIED has theorized that it simply changes its feathers to a color that does not exist.
