SCP-XXXX upon discovery by animal-biologists studying penguins in Antarctica

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a round room with radius of 1.75 meters and height of 3 meters. The walls must be constructed of any durable, padded material that can resist 200 kN/m2. Containment zone's temperature must remain approximately -35oC.

SCP-XXXX must be fed two times daily two kilograms of penguin meat with 4 liters of water. All personnel within SCP-XXXX's cell should wait to be approached by the subject before presenting food and drink.

One person must be present in the subject's cell at all times with personnel being shifted every 3.5 hours. A team of three people must be assigned to these shifts and never replaced unless one or more were to become deceased. Only members of this team are allowed to view or otherwise interact with SCP-XXXX unless authorized by a level 4 researcher.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a bipedal creature measuring approximately 1.4 meters tall with short white fur. The subject has no visible neck to bridge between its head and torso. The subject is, however, able to turn its head by using its spine. The subject possesses no appendages on upper body and does not appear to be balanced by strong legs.

SCP-XXXX was discovered wandering by itself in Antarctica on February 27, 2006, by animal biologists from the W.I.E.E.S. organization. SCP-XXXX was then retrieved four days later by the Foundation.

SCP-XXXX is very sociable and exhibits positive behavior when around human beings. SCP-XXXX's emotional state appears to vary between excited, drowsy, and depressed. When contact with personnel is lost, the subject's movement slows and can become suicidal.

Personnel have stated that while in contact with SCP-XXXX, they feel very happy and that all emotions of anger, sadness, and fear are lost during the duration of contact.

Addendum 1: Interview Log - February 27, 2006

Interviewed: Doctor Angela Frustein of the W.I.E.E.S. Organization

Interviewer: Agent "Cubeshock"

Foreword: Doctor Frustein is interrogated on information regarding SCP-XXXX before retrieval.

Cubeshock: So, doctor, describe to me how you found this creature.

Frustein: My team and I were out searching for a colony of penguins to track and monitor, when we heard these chirping sounds coming from just over the top of the hill to the left. That photo I gave you was from when we got to the top. It was all by itself and walking very slowly.

Cubeshock: And I assume you and your team approached this creature?

Frustein: Not at all. We had no idea what it was, but it saw us and started running towards us.

Cubeshock: Were you scared?

Frustein: Strangely, not in the least. In fact, I started down the hill to meet it.

Cubeshock: But you just said you had no idea what it was? Why would you run towards it?

Frustein: I'm honestly not sure.

Cubeshock: Did it attack you? Appear aggressive in any way? Even defensive or cautious?

Frustein: No, of course not! It's the sweetest thing you will ever meet. It just nudged itself against me as I stroked its back.

Cubeshock: Okay, how did you get this thing into your possession then?

Frustein: Quite by accident really. We intended to leave it, but it followed us wherever we went. So, we let it come along. And all was fine really until we found the penguins. At first it just approached them like with us, and the penguins huddled around it. But then it lunged down and bit into one of the penguins. The rest scrambled and dove into the water. My team and I raced down the hill to it. My team was scared, thinking the same might happen to them, so that's when we called the extraction team back home and then you guys showed up.

Cubeshock: Thank you ma'am. Do you think this creature is a threat?

Frustein: No … Yes … I-I don't know. Maybe.

Cubeshock: Does this creature have any fears?

Frustein: I don't think so. But don't leave it alone for too long. One time we went out while it was asleep and when we came back, it was kneeling over the fishing hole with its head in the water. When my crew pulled it out, it was barely conscious.

Cubeshock: Are you saying that thing tried to kill itself?

Frustein: That's what it seemed like. I think it has something to do with when we found it. Maybe there were more of them.

Cubeshock: Thank you for your time, doctor.

<End Log>

Closing Statement: Upon arrival at Site [REDACTED], SCP-XXXX was found unconscious due to blunt force trauma suffered from smashing its head into the sides of the containment unit. The subject later regained consciousness. One month later, Doctor Frustein was reported dead by cause of suicide. Reasons are still unknown.

Addendum 2: SCP-XXXX's containment chamber has been padded to preclude suicidal activity. To prevent choking or drowning, SCP-XXXX's feeding must always be supervised.

Addendum 3: Personnel who have come into contact with SCP-XXXX have expressed feelings of loneliness and later committed suicide. The number of personnel that come into contact with SCP-XXXX should be minimized. Personnel that do work with SCP-XXXX should not be removed from its presence for more than 72 hours.
