What I know about it: SCP-XXXX

  • The Object Class is Safe.
  • It changes an individual’s state of matter to completely solid, liquid, or gas.
  • The change occurs on a molecular scale.
  • The change takes place in a matter of seconds. There is no way to stop it once it has been started.
  • The subject remains sapient after the change has occurred.
  • The change is permanent.
  • This only works on human subjects.
  • Once a subject’s state-of-matter has been changed, it cannot be changed to a different state using SCP-XXXX or any other means.
  • Subjects do not show signs of age, but their lives will end after a certain period of time. Average life span of a subject after the change has occurred is 20 years despite the age of the subject before transformation.
  • Subjects do not need to eat or drink.
  • Object(s) is/are kept in High Value Item Storage.
  • Solid State Subjects: SCP-XXXX-1
    • The subject(s) is/are held in a reinforced cell
    • The subject is more resistant to damage, but can still be hurt. Subject has a higher pain threshold. All damage to the subject is permanent.
    • The subject’s volume is the same as before the change took place. His/her mass will be increased by about 150%.
    • The subject’s skin color changes to a dark gray or black. All other physical features are the same as before the change occurred.
    • The subject is able move his/her limbs freely. Speed and flexibility are reduced. Subject’s strength is the same as before the change occurred.
    • The subject’s hardness is comparable to ceramic.
    • When enough force is applied to a subject’s limb, it will break. This is extremely painful. The subject will not bleed, and the limb will not heal or regenerate.
    • The subject is able to speak, but its voice sounds different due to the change in structure of the vocal chords, mouth, tongue, etc…
    • The subject’s senses of sight and hearing are the same as before the change occurred.
    • The subject has no sense of taste or smell.
    • The subject’s sense of touch is dulled.
  • Liquid State: SCP-XXXX-2
    • The subject(s) is/are held in a watertight cell with an air lock.
    • The subject will take the shape of any container in which he/she is placed.
    • The subject’s volume will remain the same at all times, and is the same as the total volume of the subject before the change occurred.
    • Subject’s mass will be the same as before the change occurred.
    • The subject will be a light red color similar to diluted blood.
  • The subject is able to flow at will, but experiences fatigue as if he/she were walking or running. Subject is able to flow up inclines and even vertical pipes, but this is particularly exhausting. Flowing downward requires no effort on the part of the subject.
    • The subject has a viscosity similar to syrup.
    • The subject is able to enable and disable bonds in order to stick to certain surfaces.
    • Objects will sink into the subject. Subject is able to move certain objects depending on the mass of the object, and the strength of the subject before the change took place.
    • If any part of the subject is separated from it, the part may rejoin the subject at any time. The largest portion of the subject will retain sapience and mobility, but will be weakened. The smaller portion behaves as an ordinary liquid until it has rejoined the primary mass.
    • The subject is incapable of speech.
    • The subject is believed to be able to see and hear. Smell and touch tests have proved inconclusive.
  • Gaseous State: SCP-XXXX-3
    • The subject(s) is/are held in an airtight cell with an airlock.
    • The subject is able to change its shape and volume at will. It is also able to move. All of these actions cause fatigue as if the subject were walking or running.
    • The subject’s mass is greatly reduced.
    • The subject is black like smoke.
      • If any part of the subject is separated from it, the part may rejoin the subject at any time. The largest portion of the subject will retain sapience and mobility, but will be weakened. The smaller portion behaves as an ordinary gas which is heavier than air until it has rejoined the primary mass.
    • The subject unable to stop the movement of any objects or cause any objects to move. Even wind will prove to be an irresistible force to the subject.
    • The subject is incapable of speech.
    • The subject is believed to be able to see and hear. Smell and touch tests have proved inconclusive.

What I do not know about it (This is what I need the most help with):

  • What is the object that causes these changes to occur? Should it be just one object with different settings, or three separate objects?
    • My idea is to have it be three separate objects, but it could work as just one thing. I’m not sure which would work better, and I don’t know what these objects would be. It isn’t extremely relevant what the objects are, so I could pick any random thing. I want it to make sense though.
  • Do the effects take place when the object is held or is there some type of activation sequence or what?
    • When I first thought of the idea, I thought of the changes as not being permanent. You could turn them on or off. I changed that mainly because it just complicates things, and I like it better as a permanent change. Now that I have that locked down, I’m thinking that if you touch the object, you change. I could also see this as being some sort of chamber that you enter, then hit a button or something and change.
  • Does this work as a recovered document?
    • It's a journal. It was written by a member of a group of people who are experiencing the effects of SCP-XXXX. He was made solid. The journal details the group's journey to find the object, and their eventual recovery and use of it. They believed they would be able to turn the state-of-matter changes on and off. Having realized the changes are permanent, the group lives their lives in solitude. They have gained nothing from their quest for power, and have lost almost everything. They eventually discover (somehow, I'm not sure how yet) The Foundation. They believe the foundation will be able to help them find a way to change back. It ends with a comment from a researcher/doctor that so far nothing has proven effective in returning the individuals to their former selves.
