Item #: SCP-XXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be kept in a locked steel 60 x 30 x 30 cm safe, the combination of which is known only by the Lead Researcher, the Site Director and 05 command. The safe itself is secured within a 10x10x10 meter room. No Personnel are to approach or enter the room, on punishment of termination. Any personnel found to be under the influence of the secondary effect of SCP-XXX are to be terminated immediately in order to minimize the risk of a possible containment breach.

Description: SCP-XXX appears to be a soft toy, resembling a caricature of a bear. The object measures 50.8 cm tall by 27.9 cm wide. There is no label present to indicate where the object may have been manufactured. The object possesses an unusually high durability and resistance to fire. Due to the high durability, it requires at least █████N of force to tear a single stitch.

The major anomalous effect of SCP-XXX is to drastically increase the levels of beta-endorphins produced by the pituitary gland of those who either see or are in the presence of the object, with the rate of increase of beta-endorphins increasing exponentially proportional to either the duration of visual contact with the object, the distance to the object, or a combination of both. The maximum distance for the proximal effects to take place has been measured to be 10 m, with the rate of increase at █.█ ppm/s, compared to direct physical contact which results in the rate of increase of ███ ppm/s. Visual contact has the same effect1. The visual effect is common to the object and all images/recordings of the object.

The secondary anomalous effect manifests when a subject claims ownership of the object. This ownership must be vocally declared to at least one individual who is capable of understanding or hearing the declaration of ownership, and the beta-endorphin levels of the subject must be at least █████ ppm. At this point, the beta-endorphin increase effect ceases to take place in all subjects, except for that of the subject who claimed ownership (hereafter referred to as the owner), who experiences a much more pronounced level of beta-endorphin increase. During the ownership phase, it becomes impossible to separate the object and the owner beyond the range of effect. Any attempts to separate fail due to the object possessing the ability to teleport to the vicinity of the owner whenever the distance between them exceeds 10 meters. When the owner reaches a beta-endorphin level of █████ ppm2, they enter a catatonic state. While in this state, beta-endorphin levels continue to rise at an exponential rate, despite already being well past the lethal limit for humans.

After approximately 45 hours in the catatonic state, the owner undergoes a [REDACTED] process. Following this process, an instance of SCP-XXX-1 appears. The SCP-XXX-1 instance superficially resembles the owner and possesses all anomalous properties of SCP-XXX except for the high durability. As such, these can be disposed of safely.

Addendum XXX-1: Due to the indeterminate age of the object and its self replicating properties, it is entirely possible that instances of SCP-XXX-1 exist outside of the Foundation. As such, Mobile Task Force Theta-23 (aka "Bear Necessities") has been dispatched with the intent of locating and eliminating the instances.
