Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 2x2x2m stainless steel cage, with cylindrical bars of 5cm diameter and spaced at 5cm apart. The cage should have hay in it, just deep enough for SCP-XXXX to create a nest. 0.5kg of seeds and worms are to be placed in its cage at 7am every day. The cage must be cleaned out and the hay replaced every month.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 must be taken back to their place of residence, and must not be allowed to leave. If they do not live alone, any other occupants of their house must be evacuated. Guards must stand at every exit, and windows and doors must be locked. All tools capable of cutting or inflicting self-harm must be removed. A Level 2 Researcher may be present to monitor SCP-XXXX-1.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are to be kept in a cage identical to that of SCP-XXXX for one (1) week. If any anomalous properties are observed, they are to be terminated immediately. If not, they may be released into the wild.

No one is to consume, harm or remove anything from SCP-XXXX or its habitat without direct approval from a Class B personnel.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) with brown feathers all over except the tail, which is black. It weighs 3kg and is 23cm tall. It appears to be approximately one (1) year old but shows no signs of aging.

When any part of SCP-XXXX is severed, it will regenerate over a period of exactly three (3) hours (10800 seconds). It regrows bone mass during the first hour, subcutaneous tissue during the second, and dermis and epidermis in the third.

If anyone consumes a part of SCP-XXXX, whether cooked or raw, or plucks any amount of its feathers out, that person becomes an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will remain normal for approximately twenty-one (21) days. After this length of time, they will start complaining about persistent and irritating itches on their back.

The itch subsides after one (1) week. The instance of SCP-XXXX-1 will then start to show behaviour characteristic of Gallus gallus domesticus. Over a period of one (1) week, their behaviour will progressively grow less human and more birdlike.

After this, the instance will remain in this mental state for a random period of time between one (1) and five (5) weeks, inclusive. Their back will begin to itch again, however it is much more irritating than before. They will typically display signs of confusion and panic, rubbing their backs against rough surfaces and frantically sprinting around in random directions. Wings will grow, protruding from the instance's back, from the T6 thoracic vertebra. The wings will grow at an accelerated rate compared to non-anomalous specimens of Gallus gallus domesticus, finishing growth after only three (3) days.

Eleven (11) days after the wings have fully grown, the instance will spontaneously start convulsing on the ground, losing all muscular and sensory control except involuntary functions. This will continue for sixty (60) minutes, after which the instance will cease breathing and expire. The skin at the wings will bulge outward, and eventually an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 will burst out.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are physically identical to SCP-XXXX. They have a 50% chance of retaining SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties, and a 50% chance of being normal specimens of Gallus gallus domesticus.
