Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class : Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a Faraday cage, measured 2x2x2 meters, in order to accomodate further testing. No electronic devices, or equipment that contains it, are to be brought into the containment area, unless explicitly approved for research purposes by Site Director. Security personnel on duty at storage site are to conduct patdowns in order to verify that no devices other than those approved are brought into the enclosure.

Description: SCP-XXXX has been determined to be an anomalous executable program, written in an previously unknown coding language. Reverse engineering of the code has shown no equivalencies to currently known languages. Upon been executed on any OS, it will overwrite all other processes. Once executed, the changes to the system seem to be irreversible.

SCP-XXXX appears to be housed on an ordinary laptop of the ████████ brand. It displays a generic browser window, showing what appears to be a brightly coloured set of square-shaped boxes. All boxes appear to be non-functional on clicking, with a 'Loading' display being the only measure of activity.

SCP-XXXX properties are only evident upon coming within 5 meters of any devices capable of electronic signalling. By means of emission of radiowaves, consistent with infra-low (<.5HZ) signals, the laptop remotely hacks into the device, regardless of its apparent ability to receive signaling from an outside source. The specifics of the process remains opaque to researchers: examination of the hardware revealed nothing outside the ordinary for that particular brand of laptop, and no amount of stimuli provoked any change in the displayed screen.

SCP-XXXX will then force the hacked device to perform a barrage of tests to gauge structural integrity, temperature tolerance, charging loops, and an assortment of destructive tests. This leads to severe malfunctions, performance aberrations, and eventually, the total destruction of the affected devices.

Peculiar effects have been observed when SCP-XXXX interacts with cellular phones, laptops, and any other computers designed to be portable. Research is ongoing on why - and how - SCP-XXXX routes around equipment not designed for portability. When near a portable device, the program will attempt to hack into it. Once succesful, the afflicted device will exhibit the same properties as SCP-XXXX. However, the tests will continue to be performed, eventually destroying the originating phone, usually in a matter of minutes. It is theorized that this self-destroying mechanism in all derived instances of SCP-XXXX is the only thing that has prevented an epidemic of infected devices.

SCP-XXXX came to the Foundation's attention after a string of seemingly random equipment failures at ██ ████ Hospital, in ███████, ██ started a localized fire in the cardiothoracic ICU. Massive failures in electronic locks, elevators, sprinklers and communication equipment prevented proper execution of fire response protocols. Upon containment of the fire, the hospital informed an elevated number of casualties, as well as a significant number of catastrophic injuries to patients. Foundation personnel sent to investigate the matter located and retrieved SCP-XXXX after noticing their equipment suffering from issues ranging from being non-responsive, to an instance of a battery fire.

Addendum-1: A partial reference of equipment recovered from the affected ICU follows:

- Cardiac monitor: Recovered with extensive fire damage. Circuitry presented damage consistent with overheating.
- Arterial line: Recovered from human cadaver. Presented damage consistent with repeated overpressurization and depressurization.
- Ventilator, endotracheal tube attached: Ventilator presented massive circuitboard damage, resistors melted down and connectors rearranged. Endotracheal tube recovered heavily damaged, but evidence of puncturing by overpressurization on the balloon end are present.
