SCP-XXXX at the time of recovery in ████, ███████.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

NOTICE: All personnel working in SCP-XXXX's current containment facility are strictly forbidden from advertising any charities or blood drives and must immediately report any persons exhorting participation in such events. See Incident Log XXXX-A.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept secured on a pedestal whose height can be adjusted remotely, with the standard containment position being floor-level. SCP-XXXX is to be encased by a retractable acrylic glass cover stretching from floor to ceiling, such that there is a minimum clearance of 8 cm between the casing and SCP-XXXX on all sides. All personnel performing standard maintenance or conducting research on SCP-XXXX must wear clothing or protective suits that provide full coverage over the wearer’s body.

All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be kept in separate, soundproof living spaces. No personnel are to be allowed to communicate with an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 unless they have been authorized to do so by a senior researcher and given a briefing as to the behavior of SCP-XXXX-1.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a large sphere with a diameter of 1.1 m. The sphere appears to be made of an unknown metal alloy, and attempts to remove a sample of the material for analysis have failed. On opposite sides of the sphere are two identical protrusions, and a crease runs across the surface of the sphere from one protrusion to the other. At the center of each protrusion is an opening of 2.4 cm in diameter that leads into a circular hole. No more than 10 cm of the hole is easily visible at any time, regardless of the amount of light shone into the hole. Attempts to determine the lengths of these holes and whether they connect have been inconclusive.

SCP-XXXX’s two protrusions exist in two separate anomalous states. Each protrusion can take one of these two states at any given time, with the other protrusion taking the opposite state. The two protrusions are prone to randomly swapping their states, which has been observed to happen in as short a time as 6 minutes.

The first state is only noticeable whenever an observer peers directly into the opening from a distance of no greater than 1 cm. In this state, the observer will see what appears to be a small dial in the passageway. This dial can easily be seen despite the lack of light. The dial contains a needle as well as markings that start at approximately 8 o’clock and end at approximately 4 o’clock on the dial’s face. At the time of recovery, the needle was observed to be pointing slightly to the left of the 11 o’clock position.

The second state is manifested whenever an exposed body part comes in front of the opening within a distance of 4 cm. When this occurs and the protrusion is in the second state, a sharp spike will suddenly and forcefully extend from the hole, stabbing the subject in front of it, and immediately recede back into the hole. Though the spike may be covered in blood upon its recession, it is always clean the next time it is extended.

After the spike punctures a subject and recedes, the needle on the dial rotates clockwise. Though always in very small increments, the distance the needle moves is determined by how close to the subject’s eyes the stabbed area is. If puncture occurs in the foot, the needle moves about 2.4 degrees, while a puncture in the mid torso results in movement of around 14 degrees.

A subject punctured by SCP-XXXX exhibits anomalous behavior and is referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are responsive to conversation, but will always attempt to ask the person they are conversing with if they “would like to donate.” If this offer is rejected or ignored, SCP-XXXX-1 will continue insisting that the person should donate, eventually holding up the conversation entirely. If the person agrees to the offer, SCP-XXXX-1 will anomalously produce a small red ticket and give it to them. One side of the ticket has the person's name, while the other side contains the word "Volunteer". Conversation is then allowed to continue. (See Interview Log XXXX-1-A)

It is unknown how an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 obtains the tickets it hands out, as searches have never been able to find any such tickets on its person. Further, any attempts to destroy the ticket or remove it from the person to whom it was given are unsuccessful.
