Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Containment Procedures:

SCP-XXXX is to be held in an average holding cell. No special restraints or furnishings are needed. SCP-XXXX is only to be removed from its cell for research purposes, unless authorized by O5 command. All interactions with SCP-XXXX require that all personnel in contact must wear full safety equipment.

SCP-XXXX is a 5"8' tall caucasian male believed to have come in contact with a Fountain of Youth, possibly during the Spanish Conquest of America, that is not SCP-006. SCP-XXXX appears to be within its mid 20s. SCP-XXXX shows very limited ability to communicate, but can understand and follow simple commands during its early stages of decomposition.

SCP-XXXX continuously follows the postmortem decomposition process until it enters its regenerative cycle, which- upon ending the cycle- will begin the entire process over again. Outside of its regenerative cycle SCP-XXXX displays all the same aspects of a normal deceased person except for its ability to move. Depending upon its surrounding SCP-XXXX will exhibit such changes as livor mortis, rigor mortis, etc. as a normal corpse would. However, SCP-XXXX is able to perform all movements of a normal living human such as breathing, blinking, eye movement, standing, walking, etc. SCP-XXXX's movements are hindered as the decomposition process continues, but SCP-XXXX will strain to continue attempting to move on most occasions despite this.

SCP-XXXX can enter a regenerative cycle that is believed to be tied with its sleeping. After being awake for 15-20 hours, similar to an average human's circadian sleep cycle, SCP-XXXX will stop all attempts to move, and enter the regenerative cycle. It has proven impossible to verify if SCP-XXXX is actually asleep during this time as it is fully brain dead on all forms of monitors. During this cycle all signs of decomposition are reversed, and SCP-XXXX is restored to its beginning stage. After 4-9 hours SCP-XXXX will awake upon being regenerated to full capacity, and begin its decomposition cycle again. SCP-XXXX is also able to be kept awake with the same methods used to keep normal living humans awake, such as caffeine, and thus prevent its regenerative cycle to allow for decomposition processes that take longer than 20 hours to occur. Upon SCP-XXXX reaching full skeletonization or mummification, however, it will automatically enter the regenerative cycle no matter the attempts made to keep it awake. Once it re-enters its regenerative cycle after being kept awake it will also stay asleep for a proportionally longer amount of time.

SCP-XXXX has had no occurances of hostility (nor brain eating) or abnormal behavior to date. However, it has been recorded to attempt to spit purge fluid at researchers, making the need for safety equipment vital.

SCP-XXXX was discovered in ██████████, Florida on December 15, 19██. SCP-XXXX was found in a swamp, and picked up by the local coroner for investigation. SCP-XXXX then escaped, and its existence made aware to the foundation. SCP-XXXX was contained by agents, and amnestics were given to all witnesses of SCP-XXXX's existence. Upon containment and questioning of SCP-XXXX, it was reported to mutter the words "Fuente de la Juventud" - which translates to "Fountain of Youth"- to personnel. SCP-XXXX has not been recorded to have said anything else than this phrase several times during it's containment.

Addendum 1 - Research usages:

SCP-XXXX is used to study human decomposition in different environments, as factors in the surroundings will affect the normal human body decomposition process, and is especially used to study those effects in irregular environments that regular pathological research can not study, including factors with other SCPs.

Addendum 2 - SCP interactions:

All uses of other SCPs on SCP-XXXX, including SCP-006, SCP-545-B, and SCP-500, only speed up SCP-XXXX's regenerative cycle, but have not restored it to a 'living state'.

Addendum 3: Dr. ███████'s theories:

Dr.███████, who has worked with SCP-006, has come up with several theories about the Fountain of Youth in America. He believes that, "This may be a second occurance of SCP-006, or possibly something else entirely". In regards to what has happened to SCP-XXXX, Dr. ███████ has said, "Perhaps someone else placed SCP-XXXX into this Fountain of Youth shortly after he died to try to save him, or perhaps that Fountain has been tampered with or 'cursed'. It is also possible that this is the true nature of this 'Fountain of Youth', and that it is unlike SCP-006". Dr. ███████'s theories have been unable to be confirmed with SCP-XXXX. All attempts to have SCP-XXXX find this Fountain of Youth have also failed. O5 has banned any further exploration until more evidence arises in order to conserve resources.
