Dark - 1827

The faint snarl of traffic rung throughout the gutted building, and the whistle of wind brought the sound of falling charcoal from the walls. Somewhere, a cat let out a loud mewl.

Scuttling down the low wall, the creature lurked, it's eight legs clicking in a deadly beat, it's long slender tail swishing above it's head as it anticipated the attack.

"Annie?"

A man's voice echoed, and the creature stopped moving, as if it were a machine that had been turned off.

"Annie? Is that you? Come here…"

The voice was moving away now. The creature started again, peering round the charred walls towards the noise.

"There you are girl!"

The mewing was back, loud and insistent.

It let out a shriek, a ringing shriek and scraped the eardrums of everything near, and the walls trembled, raining more ash.

"What the-?!"

He didn't ever have time to scream as the creature launched itself out of the veil of thick darkness, it's mouth wide in a surreal snarl and sunk it's teeth into his flesh.

Somewhere, a cat mewed.
