Item #: SCP

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP and the region surrounding its entrance, hereby referred to as SCP-1 is to be monitored at all times by a team of exactly seven individuals, each meeting the following series of requirements:

  • Must be above the age of 55.
  • Must have full colour vision.
  • Must have had no fear of the dark beyond the age of twelve.

These individuals must be heavily screened, as someone lacking any or all of these qualities may cause the reliability of the following containment procedures to be null and void. This research team’s members must be rotated one at a time, each rotating on a corresponding day of the week. No member may remain within the boundaries of SCP-1 for more than six nights. The facility from which the observations are to be taken is to be located within the boundaries of SCP-1, and must never be left by the research team stationed here unless during scheduled rotation. No video or audio recorded from within SCP may be removed from SCP-1, under any circumstances.

EDITED: Entities within SCP, now classified as SCP-2, are not to be interacted with under any circumstances.

Description: SCP is a large cave located in [REDACTED]. The inside is completely impenetrable by all electromagnetic waves, leaving it with a completely darkness filled interior. Certain individuals seem to be able to see into the darkness, and this has been linked to several factors. Firstly, if they are under the age of 55, which has been determined as the year that the ability for the human eye to adapt to darkness is lessened severely due to age, they may be able to perceive something moving in the darkness. This is impossible to prove, as all digital recordings of the entrance do not contain these movements (See Addendum 1). Secondly, people who lack full colour vision seem to lose all sense of sight within the boundaries of SCP-1. Thirdly, anyone with a fear of the dark does not come out of the experience of witnessing SCP completely intact (See Interview 1).

SCP-1 is the circular region of forest that surrounds SCP, with SCP in the centre and it having a diameter of 30 kilometres. The anomalous effects of the region seem to permeate from SCP itself, and are not indicative of the region. The only anomalous effect this region has is that electromagnetic waves that do not fall within the visible spectrum of light cannot escape it, seemingly disappearing completely when reaching the edge of SCP-1.

Addendum 1: The movements claimed to be seen within SCP were picked up on CCTV camera pointed at its entrance by a member of the research team. On playback, people outside of the research team were able to see the movements, but the other six members of the research team were unable to share their colleague's experience. Upon interrogation, this team member was revealed to have forged his birth record to make it seem that he was several years older than he actually was. His real age was not 56, but 47. He has faced disciplinary action, and more rigorous screening has been enforced. For future reference, the movements witnessed within SCP have been dubbed SCP-2.

Interview 1

Interviewed: Agent ████, one of the first agents on site after the discovery of SCP.

Interviewer: Agent Blake, ████ closest friend within Foundation staff.

Foreword: The following interview was conducted after Agent ████ entered SCP and was subsequently found three hours later wandering SCP-1.

<Begin Log>

Agent Blake: Let's begin with something simple. Why did you go into the cave?

Agent ████: I don't know Blake. It was like, I don't know, it was like it was pulling me in. I've always been afraid of the dark, and so I don't know why I went in there… especially not when I knew what was inside of it…

Agent Blake: What was inside the cave?

Agent ████ begins to visibly look agitated, and Agent Blake commented after the intervew that he had never seen his friend like this. Agent ████ does not make any attempt to respond for around ten seconds.

Agent Blake: What did you see?

Agent ████: You know what I saw! We've all seen it…

Agent Blake: I'm sorry? ████, could you describe it for me?

Agent ████: It was dark. So, so dark. It chased me out of that cave and into the forest for bloody hours. It didn't want me dead, it just wanted me to feel its fear.

Agent Blake: What did? You still haven't explained the situation to me yet ████. Please tell me.

Agent ████: Do you really want to know? [REDACTED]. After I felt its eyes on me, I knew that I could never leave its grasp. Being here in the light hurts me, Blake, but I cannot go back into the dark. Not with it waiting there. I would rather take my own life than do that. It waits for me, in the darkness. It waits for us all.

<End Log>

Closing Statement: Agent ████ refused to talk to anyone after this interview. He was administered Class A amnesiacs following this incident, and all ties with the Foundation were cut. ████ is still kept under observation, but as of so far he has not made any attempts to follow through with his plans.
