Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a secured storage locker with its button clasp secured. During tests, all personnel within a 2 meter radius of SCP-XXXX must wear a protective face shield with a Z87+ classification or better.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a collapsible umbrella with a black, nylon canopy and steel ribs, stretchers and tips. When opened, SCP-XXXX measures approximately 1 meter across. A short nylon strip with two halves of a snap button is attached to the canopy to contain the umbrella when closed. A small button on the crook handle allows for automatic extension and opening. None of the components appear abnormal, though exact make and model is unknown.

If the snap button is unsecured, persons within a 2 meter radius of SCP-XXXX have an unusually high chance of being injured by the umbrella. Injuries to the face (and eyes specifically) are most common.

SCP-XXXX does not need to be fully opened for injuries to occur. During its initial intake, SCP-XXXX was left in a collapsed state with snap button unsecured. The researcher, Dr. Yoshimoto, processing the intake dropped a pencil and leaned down to pick it up when SCP-XXXX extended and opened unexpectedly. A tip of one of SCP-XXXX's ribs penetrated Dr. Yoshimoto's left eye, causing severe lacerations to the retina.

When opened, anybody holding SCP-XXXX will have difficulty keeping it upright. SCP-XXXX will quickly tip to one side or another. The effect has been described as if SCP-XXXX was "suddenly caught by a gust of wind". If another person is within 2 meters when this occurs, the metal tips of the canopy's ribs will strike the second person in an eye resulting in serious injury. Lacerations, abrasions and evisceration of the eye have all been documented. This behavior has been observed in a indoor, controlled environment where no wind or air flow was present.
