SCP-XXXX: Quantum Key

Object class: Euclid1

Special Containment procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in Underground Containment Vault 378, location [REDACTED]. The storage vault containing SCP-XXXX is to be fitted with twenty-five (25) steel doors, each with a different means of locking itself. Doors are to be put on a timed circuit, relocking every four seconds, as well as randomizing passwords and encryptions. SCP-XXXX itself is to be secured to the floor by a strong magnet in the center of the vault. In the case of an alpha event, retrieval squad E-7 ("Key Watch") are to be dispatched immediately for the retrieval of SCP-XXXX.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a small box of approximately 8cm3, weighing approximately 5 kilograms. The composition of SCP-XXXX is deemed to be metallic, but the exact nature of the substance has not been determined consisting of an alloy formed by copper and [DATA EXPUNGED]. Four sides of SCP-XXXX are engraved with an image of a key, the other two bear inscriptions that are currently indecipherable.

When brought within 5 meters of a locked door, container, or independent lock (such as a padlock) SCP-XXXX will vibrate slightly, produce a loud clicking noise, and the aforementioned object will unlock itself. Physical locks are unlocked as by a key, if this is prevented (such as by welding shut the door) the lock will be bypassed as well as a tremendous amount of physical force applied to the lock, until the lock breaks open. Electronic locks will power down, passwords and encryptions on electronic devices will be bypassed regardless of strength. (previous testing has shown SCP-XXXX capable of bypassing sixty-three (63) levels of encryption.

At random intervals, SCP-XXXX will pivot to an upright position, resting on one corner, and begin to spin at maxim speeds of 100 RPM. During this occurrence, all doors, containers, and devices within one mile of SCP-XXXX's location will be unlocked as by the events listed above. This is known as an alpha event and requires immediate action.

SCP-XXXX was recovered following an occurrence in which the town of [REDACTED] reported thefts of countless items, accompanied by a huge security breach of the citizens' information. SCP-XXXX was found in the possession of [DATA EXPUNGED], current D-class personnel.

1:this classification has been given not because of any immediate danger to individuals by SCP-XXXX, but because of the innate hazard it poses to the security of the foundation and containment of other SCP objects.
