Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is kept within Containment Site 303. Containment Site 303 is located within the former Combination Mine at Virginia City, Nevada. The site consists of the containment zone 900 meters below surface and living quarters for containment staff at the surface. All instances of SCP-XXXX are to be stored in specially adapted standard containment lockers made with SCP-2528-A1 and lined with the pelt of SCP-2528-B2

Worldwide epidemiological surveys for higher than background levels of psychological problems and violence5 are to be conducted continuously in order to detect any wild instances of Weapon. Any suspected area shall be scanned by Hume detecting6 unmanned aerial vehicles to confirm local reality alterations. Confirmed areas are to be quarantined by MTF Bla under guise of extensively drug resistant or and pan-drug-resistant pandemic. All collected items are to be ensconced at Dimensional Containment Site 303 as previously stated.

Given their history of violence against anomalous items7, the Global Occult Coalition must be prevented knowledge of Weapon stances under any circumstances necessary. Foundation moles are to alert their handlers immediately if they learn of this happening.

All tests involving SCP-XXXX are to be suspended without prior unanimous approval of the 05 counsel, the ethics committee, and the current site director.

Description: SCP-XXXX designates SCP-XXXX-1, a variety of items, hereafter termed "Weapon(s)", SCP-XXXX-2, the Weapons' anomalous reality warping property, hereafter termed "Curse", and SCP-XXXX-3, a series of glyphs that appears on Weapons, hereafter termed "Sigil".

Known Weapon instances consist of the following items:

The following conditions must be observed before an item can be considered under the influence of the Curse:
  1. The Sigil must appear on the item in some form or fashion.
  2. The area around the item must have a rate of Hume decreasing at consistent with the other instances of Weapon.
  3. The item must have a Hume level consistent with the other Weapon instances.8

The Curse afflicts feelings of sadness, agitation, shame, guilt and suicidal ideation upon those within close proximity to an instance of Weapon. The curse inflicts these feelings by direct local reality alterations to the victim's brain. Before and after exposure fMRI scans with subjects without a history of mental illness show that the Curse produces a of pattern of neurological activity consistent with severe depression. Those suffering from previous mental illness show a progressive worsening symptoms. It is not uncommon for a person with mild to moderate depression to begin experiencing symptoms of psychosis e.g. hallucinations and delusions.

How an individual experiences the influence of the Curse varies greatly. However, experimentation and epidemiological surveys of affected population areas show the following variables to be substantially important:

  • Alexithymia9
  • Empathy10
  • Psychopathy and/or narcissistic personality disorder11
  • Schizophrenia and/or Bipolar12
  • The individual's history of violence towards others.13
  • The individual's membership to military and paramilitary organizations14.

The symptoms cannot be treated while in close proximity to a Weapon instance. Once removed from the area conventional treatment is effective at rates similar instances of non-anomalous psychological disorders.

In house testing has confirmed that the following are required in order for the Curse to propagate:

  1. Harm must be done against another person who is legally and socially blameless.
  2. There must be knowledge that harm is being committed.
  3. There must be the intention to harm.
  4. Action must be taken to harm.
  5. By the action, the harm must be done.
