Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: As SCP-XXXX currently cannot be contained in the conventional sense, constant monitoring and documentation of its related activity and suppressing knowledge of its existence to the public is to serve as the main form of its containment. Foundation agents embedded throughout all postal services are to monitor for any instances of SCP-XXXX-A. Discovered SCP-XXXX-A instances are to be confiscated and deposited into Vault XXXX at Site-19. The individuals whom SCP-XXXX-A are being delivered to are to be identified and administered a Class-A amnestic by Mobile Task Force Pi-11 (“Accreditation Officials”). Foundation agents are also to be embedded throughout all institutions of higher education, primarily in human resource capacities, and monitor the application processes of all pending faculty and staff positions for instances of SCP-XXXX-B.

SCP-XXXX-B that have been produced following contact with SCP-XXXX-A are to be identified and interrogated by Foundation agents. Given the potential benefits of SCP-XXXX-B, detained instances may be either employed by the Foundation as Class C personnel or administered Class-A amnestics.

All personnel involved in the containment of SCP-XXXX are to hold an academic degree of master’s or lower. Under no circumstance are personnel possessing a doctoral degree (or equivalent) to come into contact with instances of SCP-XXXX-B. Such individuals coming into contact with SCP-XXXX-B and displaying aggressive behavior are to be apprehended, administered a Class-A amnestic, and reassigned to a new Foundation site devoid of any SCP-XXXX-B.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to an entity calling itself the Northern Alaska State University. Despite claiming to be an institution for higher education, there is no evidence of a physical or virtual campus of such a university exists. Despite this, the main website of SCP-XXXX, upon initial investigation, depicts Northern Alaska State University as a legitimate institution; albeit with numerous grammatical errors in text and the usage of either generic stock images or photographs stolen from other properties. Further navigation into the SCP-XXXX website reveals that, instead of taking part in the formal education process to earn a degree, individuals can obtain their degrees by paying a fee of 1,000 USD. Currently, due to a technical glitch on the SCP-XXXX website, only doctoral degrees can be purchased. The selection of topics that an individual can choose from ranges from established fields of study (Statistics, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) to ones that no known legitimate degrees are offered in (D█████ian Studies). Upon making a purchase of a desired degree, recipients can expect the diploma (SCP-XXXX-A) to arrive at a conventional delivery rate.

A primary anomalous property of SCP-XXXX manifests when an individual makes physical contact with an SCP-XXXX-A bearing their name. Upon making such contact, affected individuals (henceforth referred to as SCP-XXXX-B) will fall unconscious and remain dormant for approximately 8 hours. Upon awakening, instances of SCP-XXXX-B will claim to have acquired an appropriate amount of knowledge relevant to their SCP-XXXX-A. Testing involving SCP-XXXX-B verifies their acquired knowledge to the point that such individuals are able to complete previously unsolved dilemmas in certain fields of study. Examples of such results, with their corresponding fields of study, include:

  • Solving Hilbert’s Sixteenth Problem (Mathematics)
  • Calculating for P = NP (Computer Science)
  • Paradox of the Plankton Explained (Biology)

Another anomalous property of SCP-XXXX manifests when an SCP-XXXX-B is within close proximity to an individual who possesses a doctoral degree (or equivalent) from a legitimate institution for higher education; defined as one that is accredited, possesses an actual campus (either physical or online) with classes, and utilizes the appropriate means to obtaining a degree. Such individuals will begin to develop aggressive behavior towards SCP-XXXX-B; whether they are fully aware of their background or not. Aggressive behaviors towards SCP-XXXX-B ranges from berating such individuals for purchasing their degrees to attempted murder.

Attempts to conventionally contain SCP-XXXX, as well as track its base of operations, have been unsuccessful so far. Any attempts to shut down the SCP-XXXX website have resulted in it relocating its page to a new address almost immediately. Server addresses of the website also possess unconventional syntaxes that do not indicate a geographic origin. In addition, attempts to track the origins of SCP-XXXX-A throughout the delivery system conclude that such parcels seemingly manifest from out of sight. Compositional analyses of SCP-XXXX-A indicate that such documents are made out of standard parchment paper and do not hint as to possessing anomalous properties.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was first brought to the attention of the Foundation in 199█ after reports arose regarding the arrest of an adjunct professor at [REDACTED] Community College in California for assault on a fellow faculty member. An investigation into the alleged victim, who at the time was recently hired by the college and had just met the purported assaulter, initially identified the individual’s doctoral alma mater as a fraudulent degree factory. Despite this fact, the victim attempted to justify their credentials by providing their “dissertation”; an independently conducted mixed methods analysis on a phenomenon which would later be classified as SCP-████. As a result of this finding and upon further investigation into the institution, SCP-XXXX was given its classification and subsequent instances of SCP-XXXX-B have since been identified and dealt with by the Foundation.
