SCP-XXXX in containment

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures:As of Revision-CXXXX-01, SCP-XXXX is to be contained at Area-179 in Sector-██ Humanoid Containment Facility. SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 10m3 cell with no more than a conventional sleeping cot for furnishing and absolutely no form of internal lighting whatsoever. The walls are to be 2.5 meters thick and built from two parallel meter thick concrete surfaces with 0.5 meters in between the surfaces. An extra entrance into SCP-XXXX’s cell should lead into a 8m3 auxiliary containment cell to contain SCP-XXXX to clear the main cell for inspection purposes.

The outer surface of the inner wall must constantly be inspected for any corruption, and should be demolished and repaved after transferring SCP-XXXX to the auxiliary cell. Replacement of the inner wall should be undertaken by Class-D personnel with auditory and mild visual protection. Considerable care should be taken to avoid excessive contact with SCP-XXXX-1, and any personnel involved with replacing the wall should be scanned for communicational abnormality and detained for a minimum of 24 hours.

SCP-XXXX’s cell is to be monitored on a 24 hour for visual and auditory activity. The equipment should be designed to be automatically inserted into the cell through a metal hatch on the ceiling of the cell for a maximum interval of 30 minutes before being withdrawn for a minimum of 1 hour. Equipment administration should be handled by remote means via an automated mechanical system.

All research staff tasked with analysis of SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 must not directly engage in any form of interaction with SCP-XXXX Unless otherwise authorized by Clearance Level 4 research personnel, and should only be conducted by remote means of communication. Analysis of surveillance feed for research purposes should be limited to a maximum of 1 hour long sessions. Any longer sessions require immediate detainment of the personnel for communicational scanning and release within a 24 hour time period.

Individuals exhibiting effects of the influence of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be immediately detained and psychologically treated in accordance with Protocol-CH-XXXX. Should attempts at psychological treatment fail, the individual is to be immediately terminated.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a humanoid entity of indistinct age or ethnicity. SCP-XXXX measures 1.75 meters tall and appears to have a somewhat stocky build. SCP-XXXX’s irises are pigmented to the point of indistinction from the retina, and the skin seems pale from a lack of exposure to light. SCP-XXXX perpetually wears a garment similar to a black peacoat that descends down to the subject’s knees as well as a black top hat, black laceless dress shoes, and a pair of black gloves with an ornate pattern weaved into the backs of the palms. A red-striped scarf is also wrapped around the lower part of the subject’s face, obscuring the mouth, nose, and occasionally the subject’s eyes.

Any further attempts at assessing SCP-XXXX’s physical appearance have been made almost impossible by the subject’s extreme aversion to light, wherein being exposed to such will cause the subject to entirely wrap itself in its garments and express extreme distress.

Any solid, non-organic matter within a 5 meter radius of SCP-XXXX will slowly begin to lose any coloration and take on an entirely back color. The decoloration will eventually spread to the opposite side of the surface if exposed long enough. This “corruption” has proven to be highly effective, absorbing 99.9% of light directed at the surface. The surface exhibits no form of structural deterioration as a result of this corruption, though, and has even been reported to increase in structural integrity proportionally to the initial integrity of the surface. SCP-XXXX appears to use corrupted surfaces as a mean for expressing written communication.

SCP-XXXX is not capable of speaking any known language or writing in any known writing form. All attempts by SCP-XXXX to verbally communicate involve the subject speaking in an indecipherable, garbled language in a vocal range below what is physically possible for a human. The subject also attempts to communicate by etching phrases in a writing system with anomalous properties with its index finger, though the material facilitating the production of the writing is unknown as well as where it originates. This writing system is currently believed to be the written form of its verbal speech, and has been catalogued as SCP-XXXX-1.

SCP-XXXX-1 is written in a bright red substance that has a faint glow of 1 lumen. Prolonged visual observation of SCP-XXXX-1, however, has resulted in severe photo-bleaching of the vision, resulting in a crisp image of SCP-XXXX-1 being bleached into the retina of the observer for as long as 72 hours before mild dissipation occurs. Individuals exposed to SCP-XXXX-1, regardless of whether through direct observation or through the image left on the retina from photo-bleaching, have reported hearing multiple voices similar to that of SCP-XXXX except for being in an even lower register. The photo-bleaching and the perceived voices do not have any known causes as of yet, though research is still being conducted into them.

Exposure to SCP-XXXX-1 in any form, though original forms expressed by SCP-XXXX are most conducive, results in a detachment of the affected individual from any former languages they are fluent in. Detachment will begin as an impulse to randomly reproduce crude instances of SCP-XXXX-1, but overtime impulse will become stronger, and the individual will be able to reproduce SCP-XXXX-1 in finer detail. How the individual gains the complete knowledge of SCP-XXXX-1’s written system is unknown.

The effects of this impulse, if not psychologically treated, will eventually become subconscious, and the individual will even unconsciously produce the garbled speech of SCP-XXXX. The individual becomes highly restless, constantly attempting to show other nearby humans verbal or written instances of SCP-XXXX-1, as if trying to convey something to the individual. Individual will attempt ceaselessly to expose others to SCP-XXXX-1 which, if left unchecked, will prove successful and further spread the influence of SCP-XXXX-1.

Whether or not this unusual memetic spread of SCP-XXXX-1 is intended by SCP-XXXX is unknown, as much care has been taken to assure that SCP-XXXX is not exposed to any foundation personnel.

Addendum-XXXX-B: SCP-XXXX breached containment on ██-██-████, at approximately 20:60:06. The breach was only detected approximately 1 hour later, and a response team led by Agent ████████ was equipped with appropriate cognito protection and sent to deal with the breach. The team reported a blackening of the Sector walls in random locations as they surveyed the area. SCP-XXXX was located 2 hours after the initial response before being restrained and returned to its containment area. 4 class-D’s were overexposed to SCP-XXXX-1 in the process and were detained for psychological treatment. A division of armed guards remained by SCP-XXXX’s containment area until the cause of the breach could properly be evaluated.

Upon reviewing the surveillance footage of the Sector during the containment breach, it seems that areas affected by SCP-XXXX’s corruption were vectors for SCP-XXXX to “teleport” to when no personnel were watching. The footage shows mild disturbance before regaining focus, with SCP-XXXX’s new location having adjusted in the process. How SCP-XXXX is able to do this is unknown, but it must be able to pass through walls that are affected by the corruption enough. A revision will be made to SCP-XXXX containment procedures and a reclassification to Keter will be in order- Dr. Livi
