Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 40 x 23 cm steel lockbox sealed via combination lock. Only researchers with level 3 and above clearance are to be given the code for the lock. SCP-XXXX's containment unit can be stored with other safe class items in a low security area of Site-███.

Should testing of SCP-XXXX be required, D-class personnel must remain in a medical cell equipped with 24-hour video and audio surveillance. An approved researcher or Class-C nursing staff should monitor the feed at all times.

Description: SCP-XXXX resembles a box of purple, cuffed, nitrile exam gloves most commonly used in medical settings. Though they are labeled as brand [REDACTED] there is no lot number or expiration date visible anywhere on the box. SCP-XXXX appears to be half-full, with around 50 gloves (Hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-01.) left in the package. The box does not seem to replenish itself, leading researchers to believe that once it is empty, all incidences of SCP-XXXX-01 will cease to exist.

(Any instance of SCP-XXXX-01 removed from SCP-XXXX for testing is to be incinerated immediately upon conclusion of the experiment. Proper handling of SCP-XXXX-01 by a Class-B or above researcher is required as laid out in the foundation's S.A.F.E.T.Y guide pamphlet1. Please take care to wear a non-purple set of nitrile gloves while testing to avoid confusion with SCP-XXXX-01.)

Test subjects exposed to SCP-XXXX-01 report no ill effects within the first █ hours. Around the █th hour, subjects begin to report an acute awareness of their own respiratory cycles. They claim they can hear and feel every time their lungs expand and contract as well as sense when the impulse to breathe is transmitted from the brain. Since breathing is meant to be an autonomous process, this awareness of a required organ function is to be noted as a symptom. Subjects state that no matter what they do, they cannot ignore or mentally filter out said awareness. Tests have been performed where the subjects are provided with highly attractive and engrossing material (Television, books, and even pornographic magazines.) and while they can seem to focus on them for a few minutes, they are still noticeably distracted by their own breathing.

After the ██th hour, subjects report that they can hear and feel their eyes opening and closing as they blink along with any movement of their joints and ligaments. Attempts to have them describe the sounds have led to no conclusive descriptions between any testing sessions or subjects. PET scans conducted on subjects at this point show abnormal reactions in the auditory and sensory processing centers of the brain.

Around this time the subjects become less mobile. There are no signs of biological deterioration as far as medical testing is concerned, but they claim they can't stand the 'awareness' of their own body moving around.

By the ██th hour the subject's mental condition begins to rapidly deteriorate. At this point many choose to lie stationary in bed within their cell. Conversations, while brief, lead to the conclusion that the subject can now hear and feel their heart pumping blood throughout the body as well as the functioning of their digestive tract. As time goes on they also become aware of the autonomous firing of nerve synapses, cell death and regeneration, and any bacteria that is housed inside or on their body.

Generally test subjects fall into a coma-like state around ██ hours after exposure. The few who have been able to speak have described the sensation as 'cacophonous'. Subjects remain alive as there are no signs of damage to any organs or vital systems in their body, though to date all who have been exposed to SCP-XXXX-01 remain paralyzed in bed with a characteristic bloodshot stare as they tend to avoid blinking for as long as possible.

Addendum: SCP-XXXX was found in an unused operating room at Mercy [REDACTED] Hospital in [REDACTED] Oregon. The OR was slated for renovation which led to the discovery of SCP-XXXX, though its effects were unknown until several nurses and doctors came in contact with SCP-XXXX-01. The effected doctors and nurses are now housed in Facility-███'s recovery wing where they are to remain indefinitely for observation.
