Item #: SCP-####

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: When not in use, SCP-#### must be kept in a soundproof lockbox containing no written or printed language on any of its interior or exterior surface. The lockbox containing SCP-#### is to be stored a standard storage locker, requiring Level-2 clearance or higher to access.

Leads regarding AfterWorld Connections are to be investigated by Mobile Task Forces Psi-8 ("The Silencers") and Omega-16 ("Grail Knights").

Description: SCP-#### is a teardrop shaped planchette1 primarily made of an unidentifiable wood. The top surface of SCP-#### is decorated with pictures of a sun and a moon on left and right side of the base, respectively, and the Greek letters alpha and omega overlapping near the tip. Within the center of SCP-#### is a glass lens used for viewing individual letters. SCP-#### stands on three brass legs bottomed with a smooth black fabric.

When SCP-#### comes into contact with a smooth surface containing any sort of printed or written language, it will fix itself to a single position. SCP-#### will remain in this fixed position until removed by hand or until SCP-#### enters its active state. Attempts to move SCP-#### by mechanical means have proven ineffective.

SCP-#### will enter its active state when a single subject, hereby referred to as SCP-####-A, verbally speaks the name of a deceased individual, hereby referred to as SCP-####-B, three times within audible range of SCP-####, regardless of context. Once active, SCP-#### will move across its adhered surface and magnify individual letters to spell replies from SCP-####-B to statements spoken within audible range of SCP-####. Each SCP-####-B instance appears to have all knowledge and personality traits of aforementioned deceased individuals. SCP-#### will remain in active state until it is removed from its adhered surface.

An instruction sheet found with SCP-#### identifies the object as an "Oracle Eye by AfterWorld Connections” (See Document ####-1).

SCP-####-1, referred to in the above document as "the Operator", is a non-corporeal entity believed to be what makes SCP-#### function. SCP-####-1 communicates through vibration of the glass lens in the center of SCP-####, mimicking vocalizations. These vocalizations can be muted or silenced by the placement of a soft material on SCP-####'s lens.

After 5 minutes of use within a 24 hour period, SCP-#### will cease all movement and SCP-####-1 will interrupt interaction. In each test where SCP-####-A is over the age of 10, SCP-####-1 has said the following at the point of interruption:

Thank you for using the Oracle Eye by AfterWorld Connections. You have used your free time for the day. To continue speaking to your loved one a toll must be applied at the rate of one moment of peace of mind for one moment of physical suffering. Will you accept this toll?

Toll acceptance is triggered when an affirmative word2 is spoken by SCP-####-A within audible range of SCP-####, regardless of context. Activity of SCP-#### and SCP-####-B remain the same after acceptance of the toll with acknowledgement of the time passed.

Approximately 5-20 minutes after interaction with SCP-####-B has ceased, if toll acceptance was triggered, SCP-####-A will show symptoms of an after-use effect. Duration of these effects matches the duration of interaction with SCP-####-B after toll acceptance. Research into all tested SCP-####-B instances has shown similarities between the current active effect and SCP-####-B's cause of death. Use of any medication or known treatment for symptoms of SCP-####'s after-use effects have proven ineffective throughout duration of the effect.

Discovery: SCP-#### was discovered on ██/██/201█ in ███████, ██, USA, during investigation of a potential wild instance of a viral SCP. SCP-#### was found with the remains of M██████ F████████ in her home, with Document ####-1, and was then taken into Foundation custody. Investigation into M██████ F███████ showed no symptoms of infection prior to death, and no cover story was formed. M██████ F███████ has been interviewed using SCP-#### (See Test Log ####-01 Excerpt).

SCP-#### Test #: 1

SCP-####-A: Researcher Ostrowski

SCP-####-B: M██████ F███████

Toll Duration: N/A, toll not accepted

SCP-####-B’s Cause of Death: Spontaneous combustion, age 19; 5 days prior to test.

Instructions: Interview M██████ F███████ and obtain information on how she obtained SCP-#### and if it played any role in her death.

Notes:

  • 5 minutes into testing SCP-####-1 interrupted interaction and offered toll.
  • The lack of effect may be due to the toll rejection.
  • Research into M██████ F███████'s personal life revealed that her significant other, D███ L██████, was a fatality amongst the firefighters during the 201█ wildfires near ███████, ██.

Effect:

  • No effect has been observed.
