Object Class: Safe

DucklingSCP.jpg

SCP-XXXX in Foundation custody.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is currently at Site-15 in a standard storage locker. Researchers at Site-15 are advised to record and report and changes in electromagnetic or gravitational field around its storage locker. If a noticeable change is recorded, staff on site are advised to contact Senior Researcher █████ immediately.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a stuffed animal resembling a duckling in both size and coloration. The surface of SCP-XXXX is covered in fluffy hairs that resemble small yarn strands. Upon closer analysis, it would appear that the strands are actually made of nano-scopic tubes composed of a carbon-silicon weave. The main body and "core" of the object were presumed to be made of the same or similar material prior to Test XXXX-16. (See Test Log XXXX-16) The eyes are made of semi-spherically cut black diamonds. Nanoscopic examination of the eyes reveals engravings and metal tracts in the surface of the eyes.

SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties manifest when in contact with a human child1 that is in danger. SCP-XXXX will generate localized gravitational fields to divert perceived threats away from the subject. After subsequent attempts to harm the subject, SCP-XXXX will attempt to discourage the source if possible.

SCP-XXXX emmits a pulsating wave of electromagnetic energy at a rate of 100 times per minute. The energy is described by children and researchers as "heart like" and intensifies as the subject it is protecting becomes more in peril. See Addendum for results of test XXXX-16.

Acquisition Log:
SCP-XXXX was acquired after officials in ████████, Nevada contacted the Foundation about the miraculous rescue of a four year old girl from a house fire. Firefighters inside the burning building noticed that despite the fire originating from the gas stove, the kitchen pantry was untouched by the smoke or flame. Inside, they found the girl holding SCP-XXXX. While carrying her out of the house, they reported a "bubble" forming around them, with the smoke and fire parting as they exited the building.

During interviews, the parents of the girl stated that they had won SCP-XXXX from a claw machine at ████████, and it quickly became their daughter's favorite. Investigation of the establishment and claw machine yielded no further information. Family and witnesses given A-Class amnesiacs. Family is currently under Foundation surveillance.

Addendum:

Test Log XXXX-1

Subject: Male child, aged 5
Test Coordinator: Senior Researcher █████
Test Environment: Firing range at Site-15
Procedure: Junior Researcher T████ was instructed to hold SCP-XXXX and stand still at the end of the firing range. Agent D████████ instructed to fire a continuous stream of flame from an M113 flamethrower at T████ for fifteen seconds. As soon as the flame went within one meter of T████, it parted to either side of the boy, expanding into a somewhat defined sphere. The sphere continued to act after Agent D████████ ceased firing, protecting T████ from the smoke and flames as described by witness accounts during acquisition of SCP-XXXX.

Result: Subject is shaken, but unharmed. Subject requests to be taken back to ████████ ██████ Orphanage. Subject given counseling and request granted, advise check ups on subject daily for the next month.

Test Log XXXX-2

Subject: D-77472, male age 35
Test Coordinator: Senior Researcher █████
Test Environment: Firing range at Site-15
Procedure: D-77472 instructed to hold SCP-XXXX and stand still at the end of the firing range. Agent D████████ instructed to fire a three round burst from a standard M16 assault rifle into D-77472's chest.

Result: SCP-XXXX did not activate. D-77472 expired shortly thereafter.

Test Log XXXX-4

Subject: Female child, aged 4
Test Coordinator: Senior Researcher █████
Test Environment: Firing range at Site-15
Procedure: Subject instructed to hold SCP-XXXX and stand still at the end of the firing range. Agent D████████ instructed to fire a three round burst from an M16 assault rifle with silencer into Subject. After several seconds of hesitation and reassurance from Senior Researcher █████, Agent D████████ takes the shot. Two bullets found lodged in the left side of the firing range, one found lodged in the floor.

Subject clutches SCP-XXXX tightly and begins whimpering. Agent D████████ is requested to fire another round. Upon firing, Senior Researcher █████ and Agent D████████ collapse to the ground. Medical treatment reveals that two bullets struck Agent D████████, one in the left shin and one in the right forearm, and the other struck Senior Researcher █████ in the left shoulder.

Result: Senior Researcher █████ still recovering, request to continue work on SCP-XXXX approved. Agent D████████ still recovering, request to transfer to a different project approved.
Subject returned to ████████ ██████ Orphanage. Request Subject to be monitored daily for the next month.

Note: It seems to understand the source of threats and actively seeks out and targets them after a certain threshold. Curious that it chose a warning shot rather than something lethal.

Test Log XXXX-7

Subject: Female child age 4, D-135680
Test Coordinator: Senior Researcher █████
Test Environment: Controlled test chamber at Site-15.
Procedure: Subject is instructed to hold SCP-XXXX and not let go under any circumstances. D-135680 is brought into the room and instructed to harm subject. D-135680 is able to get within 20cm of the subject before her progress is halted. D-135680 expresses confusion and backs away from subject. Subject begins to show signs of distress and holds SCP-XXXX tighter. D-135680 is suddenly thrown to the opposite side of the testing chamber, where she is pinned to the wall until security personnel escort subject and SCP-XXXX out of the room.

Result: Medical examination on D-135680 reveals broken bones and massive internal organ damage. Estimated localized gravitational field strength at ██g.

Test Log XXXX-11

Subject: Male child age 18 months
Test Coordinator: Senior Researcher █████
Test Environment: Medical center at Site-15
Procedure: Subject offered SCP-XXXX. He does not reach for it . Dr. Z███████████ places SCP-XXXX in the child's lap. Dr. Z███████████ ties a small string to SCP-XXXX and the child, to prevent him from dropping it. Dr. Z███████████ uses a hypodermic needle to inject a booster shot into subject's left thigh.

Result: Subject shows signs of distress and begins to cry, but SCP-XXXX does not activate.

Subject returned to [REDACTED] without incident.

Note: It seems to be able to tell whether a pain is "benign" or not. Possible reclassification as sapient.

Test Log XXXX-12

Subject: Male child, age 14 months
Test Coordinator: Senior Researcher █████
Test Environment: Medical center at Site-15
Procedure: Subject offered SCP-XXXX. He grasps it and begins chewing the bill. Dr. Z███████████ ties a small string to SCP-XXXX and child, to prevent him from dropping it. Dr. Z███████████ uses a hypodermic needle to inject [REDACTED]

Result: [REDACTED]

Test Log XXXX-16

Subject: SCP-XXXX
Test Coordinator: Senior Researcher █████, Dr. Z███████████, Dr. G██████, Dr. U███
Test Environment: Research center at Site-15
Procedure: Lead by Senior Researcher █████, Dr. Z███████████, Dr. G██████, and Dr. U███ begin to test SCP-XXXX's electromagnetic properties through scans and nanoscopic analysis. Scans inconclusive, Dr. U███ suggests dissection. Upon approval from Senior Researcher █████, Dr. G██████ makes an incision from the base of the bill to the tail of SCP-XXXX. Inside is a tangled ball of the fibers that cover SCP-XXXX, however, these fluctuate from copper to silver color at the same rate as the electromagnetic pulses from SCP-XXXX. Carefully inspecting the mass, Dr. Z███████████ notices a plastic tab sticking up from behind the knot. Dr. G██████ secures the tab, pulling it into view of the other three researchers. A small pop is heard and the electromagnetic heartbeat ceases. The tangled mass fades to a chalky white color. Testing later reveals that the fibers are normal strands of fine yarn. The external strands retain their yellow color and carbon-silica composition.

Result: After this test, SCP-XXXX no longer demonstrates its anomalous properties. Eyes and external hairs still pending examination and analysis. Plastic tab is determined to be made of a mundane polymer.

The plastic tab reads:

Sandy,

Hey hey hey! It looks like you've grown up kid! I hope that Quackers kept you comfy and safe since I've been gone. Look at you, taking apart my little buddy to see how he works… you might just become a famous engineer one day after all. Of course, since Quackers is kaput, you're going to have to fend for your own now. I know, it seems a little harsh, but to make it in this world, you've got to rely on your own strength and smarts. Plus Quackers isn't totally gone; he's still here to keep you company.

Hope that'll tide you over until we meet again,
Big Brother Jake
