The Taklamakan Desert

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the harsh climate of the Taklamakan Desert and isolated nature of SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX is largely self-contained. Site-307 has been established directly above SCP-XXXX to better facilitate research, under the guise of a Chinese ecological research station. Civilian aircraft are to be redirected to avoid flying over Site-307.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a subterranean complex of nonhuman origin located approximately 300 meters beneath the Taklamakan Desert.1 The structure occupies approximately 2500 km2, consisting primarily of a large shell encompassing an urban area with a tiered design. The tallest buildings are located towards the outermost edge of the city, with the average building size decreasing as one approaches the center of the complex. The roofs of shorter buildings accommodate infrastructure for the taller tier adjacent to them, such as entrances, footpaths, roads, parks, and so on. A central pillar occupies the center of the complex, and it features many carvings of apparent historical and mythological value.

SCP-XXXX is almost entirely composed of a substance that bears a superficial resemblance to sandstone, hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. This extends to objects within SCP-XXXX that would not logically be composed of such material, such as food or clothing. This substance exhibits two known anomalous traits: anomalous durability2 and anomalous structural integrity.3

Addendum:

Theme Thingy: Humans are not unique. Extraterrestrial species exist for a fact, and therefore anomalies could feasibly be created by them, intentionally or otherwise.
