Instances of SCP-XXXX in containment.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Instances of SCP-XXXX are to be secured within a closed-system chamber, accessible only via decontamination airlock. Individual instances are to be stored within sub-chambers of necessary size, with separate sub-chambers for loose matter and material from filtering and decontamination.

Authorized personnel must wear full body protective suits made entirely from synthetic materials when entering the chamber. Organic material of any kind is only to be exposed for approved testing purposes.

In the event of a containment breach, the local area is to be cleared of non-recovery staff and breached material is to be collected in approved synthetic containers for retrieval. Breaches with loose particulate are to be sealed over with plaster prior to retrieval. Ventilation decontamination is to be done at the Site Director's discretion.

NOTE: Further exposure of SCP-XXXX to human subjects is currently not authorized.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a substance, visually similar to grey/white granite, which transmutes all organic material it comes into direct physical contact with into further instances SCP-XXXX. Tests show the reaction to begin within three seconds of contact, at which point the transmutation spreads rapidly from the point of contact at approximately 6-8 cm per second. Any organic material remaining in contact will fuse with the existing instance. Transmutation will spread to any organic material in contact until all available material is "consumed" by the reaction, at which point it will cease. Inorganic material remains unaffected.

Analysis of samples have thus far confirmed the similarities to common granite. No physical or chemical attributes have yet been shown to account for the anomalous properties. Transmutation, however, only manifests when SCP-XXXX is present in quantities of approximately 2.8 mg or more.

Instances of transmuted living humans and animals will manifest the anomalous production of weak electromagnetic fields centered on the head, consistent with that of expected brain activity in a living subject.

Electrical activity is observed to be variable, and will fluctuate in response to various stimuli. Activity is consistently high during the first 72 hours following initial exposure, after which levels will commonly diminish to a baseline consistent with at-rest activity of a living brain.

Stimuli that have generated prominent reactions include the act of removal from storage, the removal of body parts or other alterations to the instance in question, presumed audio/visual contact with researchers, and presumed audio/visual with other instances of SCP-XXXX. Stimuli specific to human instances include the presumed audio/visual contact with researchers present at the time of initial exposure, exposure to audio/visual stimuli including verbal communication, and in the case of former Agent █████ (see Incident Report XXXX-02), the presence of known friends and co-workers.

Neither extended lengths of time nor physical damage extraneous to the heads of SCP-XXXX instances have had any observable permanent effects on their electromagnetic fields. Only intracranial damage has led to a cessation of activity.

Due to the ambiguous nature of SCP-XXXX's effects, further human exposure has been suspended indefinitely.

Addendum XXXX-a: Initial instances of SCP-XXXX were discovered on ██/██/20██ in a clearing of a wooded area approximately 5 km west of ███████, ████████. Agents were dispatched to investigate the site following [REDACTED]. Instances at the time included 5 humans (1 adult male, 1 adult female, 3 juvenile males), 1 domestic dog (Canis Lupus Familiaris), 2 crows (Corvus Brachyrhynchos), and approximately 12.6 kg of various small vegetation and other formerly organic matter.

A crude structure of sheet metal and wire fencing had been surrounding the instances had been constructed by persons unknown. Included was a doorway closed with a chain and padlock, suggesting the builder had reasons to re-enter. A trench surrounding the structure had been dug, with evidence of having been partially filled with rock salt at one point, presumably in an attempt to stifle the advance of local vegetation.

Since the removal of all SCP-XXXX instances, observations of the recovery site have recorded three separate visits by an as-yet unidentified caucasian female, presumed age 20-25. On each occasion, the subject has stayed an average of 20-30 minutes and has showed reluctance to enter the area formerly occupied by the structure. The subject is suspected to be the builder of the structure, but has shown no signs of being either anomalous or a security threat. Observation is ongoing, with appropriation for questioning pending approval.
