Site 373-█ Focal Point

Item #: SCP-3730

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:Command staff are to be stationed off-site and must never come in contact with those working with SCP-3730. Staff working on the focal point sites and Site 373-C are the be routinely told that SCP-3730 IS NONE CONTAGIOUS. Any change in staff behavior or mood is founds for immediate removal from Site 373-C or focal point sites.

In the event of an early or accidental priming; the rooms subjected to this effect are to be sealed indefinitely and personnel and property is to be considered "missing" until further notice.

All samples of SCP-3730 must be kept within airtight stainless steel containers no larger than 25 litres. Individual containers must be kept below -5°C and under no circumstances must they be subjected to high humidity and/or liquid substances. Containers must be affixed to a static surface no closer than 1.5m from one another.

Personnel maintaining SCP-3730 must not enter the containment cell without 2+ crew members wearing level B hazmat suits. Upon entering and leaving the room both personnel and equipment must undergo a basic sanitation process and inspection thereafter.

Any damage, vibrations or audible sounds must be located and followed up with the destruction of the containers in question within 48 hours. In the event of a ruptured/primed container the containment cell in question must be hermetically sealed and climate controlled in order to prevent the advancement of SCP-3730.

Site 373-█ and Site 373-█ are open sites and must have samples collected every 2 weeks to be checked for any traces of SCP-3730. Any change in the ecosystem and landscape must be reported to site 373-C immediately. Site staff must ensure there are no leakages of SCP-3730 at site focal points. Finally, all vessels entering the containment zone must be diverted around the focal points and recorded.

Collection and storage is only permitted at site 373-C, containers can only be moved to another site with level 4+ clearance. Containers leaving site 373-C are to be tagged with a basic GPS chip until the container is either destroyed or returned.

Description: SCP-3730 is an advanced species of bacterium capable of halting the production and maintenance of keratin structures within living beings however; SCP-3730 cannot directly kill its host as it only requires a small amount of energy to sustain itself and reproductive cycle.
SCP-3730 is incredibly slow at spreading throughout living tissue due to its inability to breakdown other proteins. Subjects injected with SCP-3730 may take weeks or even months to develop minor symptoms such as rashes or hair loss. Because of this slow progression an inability to spread by air SCP-3730 is relatively easy to contain.

After foundation scientists dated the rocks around Site 373-█, it is theorized that this bacteria thrived in the late Jurassic period where large herbivores would have relied on keratin plating in order to defend themselves. The bacterium would have likely dissolved this plating, making prey vulnerable, in order for them to be consumed and spread through other biological means.

The focal points are located in the Arctic ocean around 730km North from the ███████ coast in Greenland. Two decommissioned mining rigs about 250m apart mark the focal points which are situated around 4000m underwater at the edge of the Fram Basin.

Originally a mining operation for methane hydrates; the foundation moved in and secured the site after the earthquake of September 20██ revealed SCP-3730 frozen and preserved under the seabed.

The water pressure at Site 373-█ and Site 373-█ prevents the bacterium from spreading and it is suspected that the vast majority of the preserved bacteria is still dormant.
