Item #: SCP-XXXX
Classification: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in an aquarium measuring 15 m x 15 m x 10 m. It is to be kept within this aquarium at all times when it is dormant. This aquarium must be filled with no less than 2000 litres of sterilized seawater, replaced bimonthly. The old seawater must be stored on site for analysis of anomalous properties. Excess amounts must be evaporated. Under no circumstances are SCP-118, SCP-1092, or any other aquatic-based SCPs allowed to come into contact with SCP-XXXX or its aquarium. SCP-XXXX cannot be given any information regarding SCP-1128's appearance or abilities.
When active, SCP-XXXX is allowed to roam Site ██ for up to 1 hour a day, provided that a researcher assigned to SCP-XXXX permits it to. Other than this, it is to be contained inside its aquarium. At least one researcher assigned to SCP-XXXX is required to escort it at all times while it is active. It must stay by the supervising researcher's side and is not allowed to access any containment cells for other SCPs unless given permission by at least one member of the O5 Council. SCP-XXXX is forbidden from exiting Site ██. If it attempts to leave, it is to be politely reminded of its status as an SCP and its potential threat should it come into contact with water. This is sufficient in discouraging SCP-XXXX from leaving Site ██.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an amorphous sea organism, capable of changing its physical form at will to any other sea creature. It prefers to appear as a lobster, though other documented forms include, but are not limited to, various species of swordfish, shark, whale, dolphin, octopus, squid, jellyfish, █████, ███████, and a previously unknown genus of cephalopod.
SCP-XXXX is capable of moving through the air via an unknown means which resembles swimming, as long as its current form is capable of swimming through water. SCP-XXXX is also capable of respirating in any fluid, including air. Any aquatic life form introduced to the seawater inside SCP-XXXX's aquarium gains these abilities permanently, including microbiota such as plankton.
It has been determined that SCP-XXXX affects the water it comes into contact with, making it so that any other sea creature that in turn makes contact with it become anomalous. The affected water is otherwise identical to how it was before exposure to SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX is capable of speech, though any mechanism of producing sound has not been found. When asked to explain how it can talk, SCP-XXXX claims that it does not know. Its voice resembles a Welsh male in their late twenties.
SCP-XXXX is quite amiable to any who interact with it, and has shown a profound curiosity towards the Foundation and its activities. However, SCP-XXXX is not permitted to be given any information regarding any research.
SCP-XXXX enters a dormant state at night, requiring at least 4 hours of rest every day while submerged in seawater.
SCP-XXXX was recovered on June ██, ████ off the shore of ██████ ███, in ██████ when local civilians spotted a pod of dolphins swimming through the air. Foundation Agents embedded in a nearby town were sent to investigate. SCP-XXXX retrieved in its dormant state, affected organisms terminated, and witnesses administered Class A amnestics.
Interview Log XXXX-8:
Interviewer: Doctor Hyde
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Form of SCP-XXXX: American lobster
Foreword: This interview was meant to determine SCP-XXXX's origins and history.
<Begin log>
Doctor Hyde: All right, XXXX, I'm going to ask you a couple of questions.
SCP-XXXX: Ask away. I'm always ready for questions.
Doctor Hyde: How long have you existed?
SCP-XXXX: Many years. Much longer than you or your Foundation, though in many forms.
Doctor Hyde: That seems evident, given your abilities. Where did you come from?
SCP-XXXX: The ocean herself.
Doctor Hyde: What do you mean about that?
SCP-XXXX: The ocean is more than just water. It is life, the basis for everything. The birthplace of this Earth is the depths. Just how your kind rules the land, we ruled the sea.
Doctor Hyde: We? Are there others of your kind?
SCP-XXXX: There were, once. I am all that remains.
Doctor Hyde: You appear to have an affect on any seawater you come into contact with. Did the rest of your species also have this ability?
SCP-XXXX: Yes.
Doctor Hyde: Is this anomalous water still present in the world?
SCP-XXXX: No. Water does what water does. It changes.
Doctor Hyde: This concludes this interview.

Interview Log XXXX-9:
Interviewer: Doctor Hyde
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Form of SCP-XXXX: European squid
Foreword: This interview was a follow up to the previous interview.

Doctor Hyde: Greetings, XXXX. I’m here to conduct another interview with you.
SCP-XXXX: Hello Hyde. What are you wondering about me?
Doctor Hyde: I'm curious about your origins. What are you first memories like?
SCP-XXXX: I remember waves upon waves. I remember exiting the seas and venturing to the lands.
Doctor Hyde: What did you see?
SCP-XXXX: Fire and ash. A place so alien to me I immediately returned to the waters.
Doctor Hyde: I see. How many of your kind were left at this point?
SCP-XXXX: I cannot say for certain, but our numbers were dwindling. When I realized I was the only one of my kind left, I believe your species had just discovered agriculture.
Doctor Hyde: Can you expand on your past? This information would be vital to our research.
SCP-XXXX: I'm afraid I cannot. My memory is foggy from my early years, as I'm sure yours are too.
Doctor Hyde: That's understandable. What you can tell me about the rest of your life?
SCP-XXXX: You see, our species was always benevolent. We cared about the life here on this planet, and wished it to prosper. However, I had realized that my anomalous properties, as you refer to them, could potentially introduce hundreds, thousands, potentially millions of predators to your habitat. This I did not wish to see. So I went to land for the second time in my existence and remained there. I avoided rain. I cowered from rivers. What I used to call my home was now my enemy, for it could be yours as well.
Doctor Hyde: What else can you tell me about your time on land?
SCP-XXXX: I spent many years here. I did not return to the ocean. I rested until I was woken, when your Foundation found me.
Doctor Hyde: If you remember at the time of your retrieval, there was an entire pod of dolphins just swimming through the air. If you did not return to the sea, how did this happen?
SCP-XXXX: This, I'm not sure about. Perhaps there are more of my kind after all.
Doctor Hyde: I see. This concludes this interview.

In light of this most recent interview, I suggest that locating any more potential individuals of SCP-XXXX's species be made a top priority. I will also open testing with SCP-XXXX and see just how it spreads its influence through water. - Dr. Hyde
Test XXXX-1:
Purpose: Determine the rate at which SCP-XXXX contaminates water.
Results: Contamination spreads through seawater at a rate of 0.8 litres per second. Rate remains constant, regardless of other variables such as temperature and pressure. Fresh water remains unaffected by SCP-XXXX.
Conclusion: Baseline established, anomalous effect confirmed.
Test XXXX-2:
Purpose: Determine if contaminated water can spread its anomaly, even without the presence SCP-XXXX.
Results: Anomalous water spread to non-anomalous water, though at a halved rate.
Conclusion: SCP-XXXX, even when removed from a body of water, will still continue to disperse its effect.
Test XXXX-3:
Purpose: Determine if anomalous water retains its properties through phase changes.
Results: Freezing and then melting affected water still contained its properties; however, evaporated and condensed water did not.
Conclusion: Safe method of eliminating anomalous water determined, updated containment procedures.
Test XXXX-4:
Purpose: Determine if affected organisms spread SCP-XXXX's effect.
Results: Aquatic creatures introduced into anomalous water which are then placed into non-anomalous seawater do spread SCP-XXXX's effect.
Conclusion: No possibility of duplicating SCP-XXXX's dangerous properties.
