Item #: SCP-2163
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Due to its location and media attention, little can be done to minimise traffic around SCP-2163. For this reason, containment will take the form of regular surveillance and reporting by a rotating team of Foundation researchers and security personnel. Until such time as SCP-2163 presents any additional threat, no further containment is necessary. Effects of SCP-2163 on SCP-2163-1 will be allowed to continue as long as the research team provides no significant evidence of a greater threat.
Instances of SCP-2163-1 are to be collected by the research team onsite, under the guise of local government employees, and transferred to research site 41A for further investigation.
Any further instances of SCP-2163-2 will require containment procedures to be upgraded.
Following significant media attention focused on SCP-2163, counter-information has been distributed to disrupt investigation of the phenomenon. Further action should be taken if another media incident occurs.
Description: SCP-2163 is a category B listed structure located near Dumbarton, Scotland. Completed in 1895, SCP-2163, also known as Overtoun Bridge, is a gothic-style bridge constructed from rough-faced ashlar and comprised of three arches, rising 16 meters above a shallow waterfall.
Proximity to SCP-2163 for an extended period of time appears to cause mild to serious tension headaches. Members of the research team have also reported short periods of intense anxiety, paranoia and depression. On-site research has been limited to periods of 30 minutes per 6 hours to preserve research integrity.
Since [REDACTED], SCP-2163 has been the location for ███ canine deaths. Upon arrival to SCP-2163, a large percentage of canines will jump from the bridge to their death below. Affected dogs are referred to as SCP-2163-1. If an instance of SCP-2163-1 survives the fall, it will continue to attempt the jump until it expires.
Researchers have yet to find an explanation for SCP-2163-1, though the phenomenon has been replicated to a rate of [REDACTED]. Possible causes for SCP-2163-1 that have been eliminated from possibility have been put forward to the media team for counter-information purposes.
One known incident involving a non-canine as of ██-██-██, see Addendum 2163-A, currently under investigation by Dr. ███████, who will be permanently stationed at Research Site 2163 until conclusion of the investigation. This incident produced SCP-2163-2, now contained at Site ██.
Following the incident, SCP-2163-2 displayed increasing obsession with SCP-2163 and an equally increased desire to jump from SCP-2163 to its death. Behavior of SCP-2163-2 mimics the behavior of instances of SCP-2163-1 exactly, save for increased ferocity and cognitive ability. Desire to jump from SCP-2163 increased until, following an escape from containment during which two members of the research team were severely injured, SCP-2163-2 was moved to containment at Site ██.
SCP-2163-2 continues to display obsession with SCP-2163 but reports show the subject to be increasingly docile without proximity to SCP-2163. Research Team 2163 currently drafting plans to reintroduce SCP-2163-2 to SCP-2163 in a controlled environment.
Addendum 2163-A: Following the first recorded incident involving a human subject, research team 2163 are to closely monitor any civilians displaying overt fascination with SCP-2613. 2163-2 has been transferred to Site ██ for observation to investigate the cause of multiple [REDACTED].
Addendum 2163-B: While on rotation to Research Site 2163, Dr.███████ requested use of SCP-916 and SCP-████ to further investigate the phenomenon of SCP-2163. Request has been approved for SCP-916 and denied for SCP-████. Results of testing with SCP-916 can be found under Addendum-2163-D.
Addendum 2163-C: As of ██-██-██, current research team reports that conventional methods of warning and prevention do nothing to reduce or eliminate cases of SCP-2163-1.
Addendum 2163-D: Results of test introducing SCP-916 to SCP-2163:
On ██-██-██, Dr. ███████ begins testing. The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the limits of SCP-2163 on canines and its potential effects on SCP-916.
SCP-916 is transferred to Research Site 2163 via soundproofed vehicle and isolation chamber. Research Team equipped with noise cancelling devices and briefed on the effects of SCP-916. Every 10 minutes, as per set rotation, one member of Research Team 2163 will remove protection and interact with SCP-916 to continue experiment. At the conclusion of this period, or immediately when displaying negative effects, team member will replace protection and the rotation will continue.
Approximately 17 minutes after arrival at SCP-2163, SCP-916 appears to be distressed. SCP-916-1 manifests and interacts with SCP-916, a phenomenon not yet observed to date. As of 46 minutes after arrival to SCP-2163, SCP-916 continues to appear increasingly distressed. Research team concludes testing and attempts retrieval of SCP-916, suffering three minor injuries as SCP-916 attempts to jump from SCP-2163. SCP-916 returned to containment.
