Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept inside a medium sized storage safe and kept locked. No persons may open the safe without the proper clearance and password. When SCP-XXXX is removed from its containment, no humans may be exposed to SCP-XXXX through physical contact, excluding when the human has gear befitting handling the anomalous object. If they do handle SCP-XXX, they will be then considered SCP-XXXX-1 from then on, until SCP-XXXX has been carefully removed from the subject. There are multiple monitoring devices within the security area, including, though not limited to motion detectors, cameras, and other such devices.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a purple rubber ball, capable of easily fitting in the palm of a human’s hand. It is similar to the mass produced 'stress ball', and can to a small amount, relieve stress, as multiple subjects that came into contact with it claimed that it relieved their growing anxiety slightly. Any biological matter coming into contact with the SCP immediately felt a growing paranoia, anxiety, and distrust of those around them. The longer they were in contact, the more the effects grew. The subjects that came in contact with it were reluctant, even physically incapable to let go of the stress ball. Under threats of termination of the class D-personnel, they refused to release SCP-XXXX, claiming that harm would come to them if they released it. The SCP was removed from the class D-personnel, who was then quarantined as to monitor the effects of SCP-XXXX post-contact.

The SCP induces a dependence of SCP-XXXX-1 upon it. Though they claim that the ball can help, and/or keep them safe, their growing paranoia becomes far too unstable for the SCP to be able to keep it under control. SCP-XXXX-1 also doesn't respond to threats of harm inflicted upon them by others, even when under immediate threat of death. Their fixation is solely on the SCP itself, and will not move from it unless they voluntarily or are forced to release the SCP.

After they let go of the anomalous object, another period of ten minutes would pass. After the time period had passed, they would experience an accident of some type, ranging from breaking a leg to falling down a flight of stairs for one subject, which left them paralyzed. Interviews prior to this accident revealed that they had a feeling of unease growing within them as they kept in contact with SCP-XXXX, feeling as if that an increasingly more dangerous event would occur to them.

The object seemed to comfort them, and tests show that there was an increased amount of adrenaline and dopamine going through their system after they made contact with the SCP. After their contact had been severed – either through force or free will – dopamine and adrenaline levels plummeted to the normal.

Tests show that the injury that the subject receives is determined by how long they were in contact with the SCP. Ten minutes is the the maximum amount of time documented that the subject is willing to hold the object. Ten hours was the maximum amount of time a subject was physically exposed to SCP-XXXX, and the aftermath resulted in them experiencing a level of mental retardation comparable of that to one who suffers hydrocephalus. They still have not recovered, and are in a vegetative state in St. Maria Hospital for the Mentally Handicapped in [DATA EXPUNGED], Mexico.

All injuries inflicted upon those coming into contact with SCP-XXXX are, no matter the severity, completely survivable. This was considered a curiosity until Dr. [DATA EXPUNGED] discovered all injuries that any of the subjects experienced were experienced by those within a 30.48 meter radius of the subject at some point in the past, and in extension SCP-XXXX. It is unknown however how the SCP selects what injury to inflict upon the user, or how the subject even manages to get harmed.

An example of this is when an individual who had a documented leg injury was within a 30.48 meter radius of SCP-XXXX, and in extension, SCP-XXXX-1. After the class D-personnel (formerly classified as SCP-XXXX-1) released SCP-XXXX, they experienced an injury which resulted in the fracturing of their tibia. They were then taken to receive medical attention as required.

In one such experiment, class D personnel were tied down to a chair, and were forced to hold SCP-XXXX for ten minutes in an enclosed room. After the ten minute period ended, a machine took the SCP from their hand. In the following ten minutes, nothing out of the ordinary happened, excluding the class D saying repeatedly that they were fine, as if to console themself. Exactly one second after the ten minute period, vitals on the class D showed that they were under great physical duress, and were experiencing intense pain. Medical and security staff then entered the room, coming upon them experiencing a heart attack.

Dr. [DATA EXPUNGED] was one of the first medical staff in the room, and had for some years had several heart problems, and once had experienced a heart attack, though they went through five procedures prior to joining the Foundation, for health reasons.

Foundation scientists then began to test the SCP for any sign of how the object could cause these events to occur. Upon inspection, it appears to be a normal, if worn, stress relief ball made out of purple rubber. They however, were unable to piece the layer, not even with laser cutters put through SCP-914.
