Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid / Provisionally Keter (SCP-XXXX-1 only)

Special Containment Procedures: Instances of SCP-XXXX are to ideally be housed in a 5m x 5m x 5m Humanoid Containment Module, on a 1m tall pedestal. The material of the pedestal is not specified, and a pine construction as detailed in Document XXXX/277 is suggested but not mandatory. The approach to the room should be constructed to allow installation of security and recapture apparatus such as would be required for any living and/or humanoid SCPs within the effective range of the SCP-XXXX instance; plans for such security and recapture apparatus are required to be submitted with a Placement Request as detailed in Document XXXX/831. When the SCP-XXXX instance is inactive, a passive locking mechanism meeting Level 4 security standards is sufficient for securing the chamber; when it is active, security should be provided as appropriate for the subjects in question. Instances of SCP-XXXX should be monitored at all times by on-site security staff. This may be performed by camera. In the case that an SCP-XXXX instance is activated, whether as part of an experiment or incidentally, a note should be made as precisely as possible of the time of activation. This may be supplemented or replaced by After-Action and Coroners' reports as appropriate.

All individuals working or residing within the activation radius of an SCP-XXXX instance must meet the medical standards detailed in Document XXXX/835. The activation radius of any instance of SCP-XXXX is to be patrolled by agents armed with less-lethal weaponry to prevent civilian incursions within the radius. Civilians who accidentally activate SCP-XXXX may be treated with amnestics and released or inducted as D-class on a case by case basis, after a quarantine period of 4 weeks and full medical examinations.

Given the general rate of death in urban areas, all transfer routes for instances of SCP-XXXX must be planned according to Document XXXX/257, in order to prevent accidental activation by a civilian.

Note: Security on activated instances must meet a minimum level as noted in Document XXXX/855, regardless of individuals involved in the activating instance. This includes the presence of a platoon-strength force, ideally MTF agents as available, with agents trained in containment of memetic and infohazard SCPs and with equipment to meet a wide range of possible threats. Further security beyond that detailed in Document XXXX/855 may be provided at the discretion of the Site Administrator.

Description: SCP-XXXX encompasses █ instances of small ceramic statuettes, in the range of ██cm to ██cm tall. The statuettes represent an exaggerated female form, with particularly large █████ and ███████, in a style similar to, but with generally finer craftsmanship than, the “Venus” statues recovered from various sites in Europe and the Middle East.1 Stylistic clues indicate a link with the ███████ culture, indicating an age of approximately ██000 years. This age has not been confirmed, as all recovered instances have been radiologically inert in a way that precludes standard radioisotope dating, and have proven impossible to sample or destroy by any conventional means. All cross-testing with other SCPs and destructive testing of any kind has been discontinued, except in the case that SCP-███, SCP-███, or SCP-███ are among the subjects activating the SCP-XXXX instance in question, as detailed in Document XXXX/226.

SCP-XXXX instances are activated by the death of a sapient being below the mass of ███kg within a radius of ██km. Upon the death of an eligible subject within the activation radius, the statuette will grow over a period of ██ seconds to a height of 2.3 metres, with all proportions remaining the same as those of the original form to within a margin of error of ██%. Activated instances will ambulate if not observed, but present no threat. Precisely 216 hours (9 days) after the SCP-XXXX instance is activated, the instance will “give birth” to a sapient individual who has previously died within its activation radius. Prior to ██/██/████ it was thought that this would be the activating individual, but subsequent experience has shown that this is not always the case, and this has been corroborated by SCP-XXXX-1-A.

In the case that more than one individual dies within the activation radius, the 216 hour cycle will be observed precisely, with individuals being selected randomly from the population of individuals that have died within the activation radius. When the number of individuals within the SCP-XXXX instance is over approximately ███, there is a chance that the activation cycle will end, returning the instance to its original size, before all individuals are “reborn”. This chance has not yet been quantified, and SCP-XXXX-1-A confirmed that her people had also not wished to perform the experimentation required to calculate a precise rate of early deactivation.

Individuals “reborn” via SCP-XXXX instances are the same age as they were upon activation, and experience no time as passing between their deaths and “rebirths”. Individuals are generally covered in a sterile substance composed of kaolinite and a solution similar to human amniotic fluid. All injuries incurred in the 12 hours prior to death are completely healed, but otherwise their state of health has been confirmed as similar to their state prior to the incidents which caused their death. Instances of death from natural causes may be healed, depending on the precise nature of the damage which directly caused death, and SCP-XXXX-1-A has suggested that individuals of advanced age or with certain genetic defects be barred from working within the activation radius of an SCP-XXXX instance, in line with the regulations under which they were originally used, in order to prevent looping activations due to a death/rebirth cycle.

SCP-XXXX-1-A is Hamaluo ███████, a human female approximately 27 years old. SCP-XXXX-1-A is fluent in the ███████ language and has the equivalent of a PhD in Astrophysics. Prior to the activation incident which trapped her in SCP-XXXX-1, she was an employee of ██████████ ███, an organisation similar in purpose to the SCP Foundation, though there exists no direct connection between the two organisations. As of 10/7/20██ she is considered to be fluent in the English language and has been employed by the Foundation as a Level 2 consultant on the ███████ culture, as well as performing non-anomalous work in her original field. She is available to any researchers of Level 2 or higher who are performing work involving artefacts of suspected ███████ origin, and has also composed a primer on said culture, filed as Document XXXX/843.

SCP-XXXX-1 was recovered from a cave near ███████, New Zealand, by an amateur caver who discovered it and its effects through accidental activation following a fall. The instance was returned to the surface by this caver, who immediately reported the incident to police. This report was intercepted by the Foundation, and the caver contained, interviewed, and given a thorough medical examination, followed by a Class B amnestic. SCP-XXXX-1 was initially believed to be unique, until the discovery of a cache of 3 in █████, Chile. Subsequent discoveries have increased the total number of instances under foundation control to █, and all agents are encouraged to report or recover if possible any instances they may encounter.

On ██/██/████, following the emergency activation of Site ██'s nuclear failsafe device, SCP-XXXX-1 was activated. As the total number of individuals within the activation range was in excess of ███ people, the current activation event is predicted to continue until 20██. SCP-███, SCP-███, SCP-███ and SCP-███ were within the activation range and may have been included in the activation population. Consequently, SCP-XXXX-1 has been given a provisional classification of Keter, in line with the classification of SCP-███, until such a time as SCP-███ is once again under its usual containment regime. Staff recovered from SCP-XXXX-1 are to be given a thorough medical examination and quarantined for 4 weeks. If no signs of contamination with SCP-███ appear during this time, they may be released to continue their previous duties where possible. Families of instances recovered since ██/██/████ are not to be informed unless they are also cleared for at least Level 1, due to the interval since the deaths of these instances. This requirement may be waived on a case-by-case basis by the Site Administrator of Site ██. Her decision is final.

Addendum XXXX-1: Dr. █████ has suggested that otherwise indestructible SCPs capable of activating SCP-XXXX might be trapped by using them, and a suitable population of D-class, to activate the devices repeatedly until the SCP to be trapped is among those remaining within the SCP-XXXX instance upon early deactivation. SCP-XXXX-1-A has noted that similar plans were being considered by her people, though they were regarded at the time of her entrapment as unwise. The presence of several instances of SCP-XXXX in caches in remote, inhospitable areas, may however indicate that they were used for such a purpose at a later date. Consequentially, all instances of SCP-XXXX are to be contained under Keter-level security when activated, in order to prevent the escape of the potential SCPs in question.

Addendum XXXX-2: Given the utility of instances of SCP-XXXX in preserving the lives of valuable Foundation researchers and agents, instances of SCP-XXXX are available to sites meeting the criteria noted in Document XXXX/830. These criteria include isolation from civilian population, not being a site for containment of humanoid or sapient/suspected sapient SCPs, and no lethal or possibly lethal tests involving D-class. Currently █ are placed and SCP-XXXX-1 is currently activated, leaving █ available for additional suitable sites. As there are more sites with the required characteristics for placement than there are instances to be placed, the O5 Council will be determining the sites for placement on additional criteria, including a proven record of good work, excellent security and adherence to safety standards. This information is cleared to be released to all staff of level 0 or higher, in order to provide additional motivation. The sites currently housing SCP-XXXX instances are listed in Document XXXX/832. This document is cleared only for staff of level 4 or higher except on a need-to-know basis for the staff of those sites, in order not to influence site transfer requests.

Addendum XXXX-3: The behaviour of SCP-XXXX while activated has been noted to bear some similarities to that of SCP-173. This may indicate that a GoI has possession of at least one instance of SCP-XXXX, or has been apprised of its capabilities, and is attempting to create copies thereof; it may also be no more than a coincidence. This information has been distributed to all relevant MTFs and field agents.
