Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 10M x 10M x 4M room with walls made of 10-cm steel. Nothing should be in the room other than SCP-XXXX, three (3) basic security cameras, three (3) thermal-vision security cameras, and three (3) infrared security cameras.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 3.24 meter-long, oblong horizontal cylinder, rounded at both ends. It is made of a smooth purple metal, and is floating 1.3 meters off the ground. It has a door located equatorially that can be opened from both the interior and the exterior. On the opposite side, the word 'OBLONGATRON' is printed across it lengthwise in red wood-type lettering with a white outline, similar to a carnival ride.

If SCP-XXXX's door is closed while virtually any mammal, reptile, bird or fish1 is inside, it will spin centrifugally and accelerate indefinitely at a rate of 0.25m/s. Presumably, this acceleration could go on until reaching the speed of light [due to the object not exhibiting any signs of stress no matter the speed of rotation, but no organism insofar has survived more than 706 m/s ]. This acceleration continues until the organism inside is dies or exits SCP-XXXX. If the door is opened during acceleration, one of the following things will happen:

  • If the door is opened from the outside, SCP-XXXX will stop accelerating and maintain its current velocity as long as there is a suitable living entity inside.
  • If the door is opened from the inside, SCP-XXXX will immediately decelerate at a rate of 0.5m/s until it comes to a complete stop.

There is also an emergency stop button located inside the and to the left of the door at roughly eye level, that, if pressed, slows SCP-XXXX at a rate of 4.5m/s.

The interior of SCP-XXXX is tightly upholstered with red velvet, including the items within. Inside SCP-XXXX is a table with a candle on it, three dining chairs, and a television. The television and candle are both useless, due to the red velvet coating, and the fact that the TV is not plugged into an outlet.

The objects can be moved and lifted, by external forces, but remain perfectly stationary under the force of the centrifuge. They cannot, however, be removed from the anomaly. If said action is attempted, there will be a extremely strong repulsion between the object and the outside of SCP-XXXX. While the force can presumably be overcome, no tests have yet succeeded in doing so. However, objects other than the initial ones can enter and leave SCP-XXXX with no problems whatsoever, leading many researchers to believe that these items were a part of SCP-XXXX since its creation.

Notable Experiment Log:

Test A - 2/19/20██

Subject: D-33049
Procedure: D-33049 was placed in the object, and told that she could exit SCP-XXXX at any time she wished.
Results: D-33049 remained in SCP-XXXX until it reached a speed of 33m/s. She then opened the door and exited once it reached 3m/s.

Test B - 8/11/20██

Subject: D-34002 and a security wireless camera
Procedure: D-34002 was instructed to enter SCP-XXXX and mount a wireless camera at one end of its interior. He was then instructed to close its door from the inside and sit in one of its seats until further notice.
Results: The camera was set up successfully, and D-34002 died upon SCP-XXXX reaching speeds of 108mps. The camera had a thin layer of fuzz on it upon completion.

Test C - 11/4██

Subject: D-38077
Procedure: D-38077 was given an exosuit to help him withstand the force of the Oblongatron. He was told to move on of the chairs to the center of SCP-XXXX, close the door, and sit.
Results: D-38077 was watched through the camera previously set up. The feed slowly became red-tinted, until it was entirely opaque. The subject became deceased at a speed of 631mps. When a researcher entered SCP-XXXX to retrieve the camera, he found it upholstered in red velvet. Close inspection of the exosuit revealed trace amounts of similar fibers. Thus, it appears that the velvet slowly upholsters anything foreign during rotation, but does not engulf things while stationary.
