Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX are contained at Site-██, and are considered biological hazards. Instances of SCP-XXXX are contained in separate 5x5x10m steel containers, outfitted with liquid nitrogen acid release valves able to be operated both manually and electronically. The containment boxes are to be cleaned with bleach on a bi-monthly basis. No personnel are allowed to interact with SCP-XXXX instances without Class 3 Bio-Protection Suits. Maintenance on SCP-XXXX containers is to be carried out by an automated drone. In the case of a containment breach, all instances of SCP-XXXX are to be forced into a dormant state by continuous exposure to liquid nitrogen.

Description: SCP-XXXX instances are plants found naturally in parts of Northern ███████, usually in jungle like habitats. SCP-XXXX instances are extremely resilient of attempts to destroy it, however it can be forced into a dormant state by continuous exposure to low temperatures. Instances of SCP-XXXX are confirmed to have been found naturally growing in the wild, though the source of their production is currently unknown. All SCP-XXXX instances found in the wild are to be contained by Mobile Task Force Beta-7. Standard SCP-XXXX instances typically grow 2 to 6 meters in height, depending on the size of SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX instances feature a mouth like growth on the top of their 'stem'.
At semi regular intervals of time, usually between one to three months, instances of SCP-XXXX open their mouths, and release a currently unknown gas1 with small pods suspended in it, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. This gas shows mildly corrosive behavior, and seems to even damage other instances of SCP-XXXX. Further research is underway determining if this is a territorial measure. If a mammal is within effective range (usually within one mile) SCP-XXXX-1 will attach to it. SCP-XXXX-1 instances will then grow small, sharp appendages and burrow into the mammal. SCP-XXXX-1 will then lodge itself in the intestinal tract, and can incubate for up to 5 weeks. After the incubation period ends, SCP-XXXX-1 will begin growing, and absorbing nutrients from the mammal, until it outgrows the intestine. At this point the mammal will die and SCP-XXXX-1 absorbs the rest of the body and begins getting larger until it roots into the ground from the mammal, and becomes a mature SCP-XXXX instance.
When an SCP-XXXX-1 instance burrows into a human, however, it has a different effect. The human, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-2, begins stage one of the infection, which causes flu like symptoms to occur. During stage two of the infection, SCP-XXXX-1 will begin to [DATA EXPUNGED] until it has taken control of SCP-XXXX-2's body. During stage three, SCP-XXXX-2 instances typically appear to have a light green tint to skin color, and their lungs seem to have been modified to inhale Carbon Dioxide, and exhale Oxygen. It is unknown why due to lack of the ability to perform photosynthesis. Due to a recent dissection of an SCP-XXXX-2 instances, it is thought the reason for this is to aid in the production of SCP-XXXX-1 instances, but it is unclear how. SCP-XXXX-2 instances show little to no sentience, and apparently exist solely to spread SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX-2 instances appear to have created a new organ in their body that creates SCP-XXXX-1 instances2. Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 spread SCP-XXXX-1 by exhaling large quantities of it into the air every one to two days. SCP-XXXX-2 instances typically expire two weeks after stage two due to lack of an intestinal tract and no method to achieve photosynthesis.
