Special Containment Procedure: The street corner where SCP-2138 manifests is to be closed off to pedestrian traffic between the hours of 11pm and 3am on typically low-traffic nights under the pretense of ongoing late-night construction work. The exclusion zone is to be monitored at all times by a field operative from a security station directly across the road; a CCTV mounted on a nearby power pole will be provided, along with a loudspeaker attached to the security station. Any damage to this equipment should be reported to Operations Center Micah immediately so maintenance crews can be dispatched during daylight hours.
Should any pedestrian activity be spotted in the exclusion zone, the assigned operative is to immediately use the loudspeaker to address them, warning that they are trespassing on unsafe property and must leave under the pretense of severe legal punishment. Use of non-lethal force is authorized should they refuse to comply. If the zone is entered, make sure to bring loose change up to the value of a dollar in case SCP-2138 manifests.
Should SCP-2138 manifest before trespassers leave or on-site operatives can coerce them to, the operative should monitor the situation but otherwise not intervene. Should SCP-2138-1 not comply to SCP-2138’s requests or becomes actively hostile to SCP-2138, wait until SCP-2138 leaves and pproach SCP-2138-1 under the guise of a security guard. Receive some form of identification under the pretense of an incident report, them pass the information onto Operations Center Micah so Foundation personal can locate their place of residence and send a retrieval detail out for when the SCP-2138-1 anomaly manifests. The instance of SCP-2138-1 will be brought to Site 27 for care and research purposes.
Description: SCP-2138 appears as a vagrant Caucasian male between the ages of 50 and 65, standing 4’11’’ tall with a severe hunch. It wears a large black hoody and wears grey woolen fingerless gloves. Facial hair is messy and unshaven. Witnesses have commonly described it as smelling a combination of body odor, garbage and feces. Its manner and speech, while coherent, are akin to someone who is intoxicated and/or mentally deficient.
SCP-2138 appears randomly between the hours of 11pm and 3am on the corner of ███████ Street and █████ Avenue, a popular night-clubbing district in ███████, Illinois. It will usually not manifest on nights where there is a high amount of traffic in the area, such as weekend nights, holidays, or large sporting events. It will only manifest to a small group of people; usually individuals or pairs, though groups of up to five have been recorded.
When SCP-2138 manifests, it will appear out of a nearby side-alley and approach an individual - now designated SCP-2138-1 - and ask if they can borrow some change. If SCP-2138-1 or anyone in their group pays anything over or equal to one US dollar, SCP-2138 will thank them generously and depart, ending the anomalous effect and removing the SCP-2138-1 designation. If anything less is given, or SCP-2138-1 refuses to pay them, the SCP will become agitated and begin hurling abuse. The abuse usually follows a loose script that contains minor situational variables.
SCP-2138 will continue to follow SCP-2138-1 until the target either pays them a combined sum that equals to at least a dollar, which ends the effect, or they move into a space that SCP-2138 cannot enter due to being obstructed, such as a entering a bar or club guarded by a bouncer, entering a hotel or apartment complex, or hopping on public transport. SCP-2138 will usually not attempt to circumvent any obstructions or legalities that would prevent it from proceeding, though it will continue to abuse SCP-2138-1 until they are out of sight. SCP-2138 will completely disappear; multiple attempts at tracking it have failed.
Anywhere between 12 hours to 52 hours after contact, SCP-2138-1 will begin to show signs of physical and mental deterioration. Exact symptoms and rate of deterioration vary between instances, but common effects include:
- Gradually decreased IQ, cognition and memory recollection
- Gradually decreased care for personal health and hygiene
- Severe mood swings such as angry or depressive outbursts
- Increased physical addiction to intoxicants such as alcohol and illicit narcotics
- Manifestation of infectious and chronic diseases, including (but not limited to) tuberculosis, HIV, AIDS, hepatitis A, B and C, type 2 diabetes and arthritis
- Manifestation of mental illnesses and disabilities, including (but not limited to) depression, schizophrenia, dementia and paranoia
So far attempts at rehabilitating instances of SCP-2138-1 have proven ineffective. The onset of various physical and mental diseases have found to be irrespective of the instance's previous medical history; for example, individuals who have never used drugs before have been known to manifest addictions, and individuals with healthy diets have developed diabetes. This leads to the conclusion that the effect is entirely anomalous.
Note that if SCP-2138 is physically assaulted at any point, the person who provoked them will become designated SCP-2138-1, regardless whether they were the original instance. SCP-2138 will usually refuse to receive payment at this point.
SCP-2138 has been known to be grievously injured and even killed during some encounters. Despite this, it will still manifest, and it will always appear in its original condition, regardless the impact of the last incident.
Attempts at approaching SCP-2138 for questioning have proven ineffective; asking about its background has lead it to go on rambling non-sequesters or give non-answers in the form of riddles or double-speak. Despite its volatile temper, however, it appears quite capable of pleasant, if incoherent conversation if engaged on friendly terms, though it will always return to asking for money once its conversation partner attempts to leave.
Containment Procedure: (note: ineffective as of ██-██-2013, refer to updated procedure for current containment measures) An operative dressed as a civilian is to be posted on the designated street corner between the hours of 11pm and 3am each day. The operative must carry a wallet that has a small amount of loose change in it, with at least a few $1 coins. When SCP-2138 manifests, the operative is to observe the situation and intervene should the SCP become hostile, offering to pay it instead of the potential SCP-2138-1. Despite being visibly frustrated by the intervention, this has proven to keep the SCP from designating an instance of SCP-2138-1.
Should SCP-2138-1 become actively hostile to SCP-2138, monitor the situation as long as possible before SCP-2138 leaves. Approach SCP-2138-1 under the guise of a security guard and receive some form of identification so Foundation personal can locate their place of residence and intervene when degradation begins. They will be brought to Site 27 for care and research purposes.
A CCTV will be placed on a power pole near the corner and streamed to Operation Center Micah for security purposes.
SCP-2138 manifested around 12:34am on the morning of ██-██-2013. SCP-2138 asked a passerby couple for some change, and they refused, continuing to remain adamant and ignoring him despite his abuse. The assigned detail, Agent C█████, attempted to approach the SCP to intervene as per containment procedures. Conversation log of the incident is as follows, recorded on Agent C█████'s bug and augmented with footage picked up from the CCTV.

Agent C█████: Sorry to interrupt you, sir. I overheard your conversation. Here, you can have my change instead.
[SCP-2138 becomes agitated and knocks the change out of Agent C█████'s hand.]
SCP-2138: Did it fuckin' look like I asked you, bitch? I was talkin' to them, not youse.
Agent C█████: Mister, I'm just trying to be nice. [Agent C█████ bends down to pick up her change] Please, take this and buy some food with it. There's a shelter nearby you should be able to get some soup and bread.
SCP-2138: 'sa lil' fishy, ain't it? I ain't got the best memory, but you, I remember those preddy blonde bangs. You been hangin' around 'ere before, haven't ya? Always someone hangin' around dese days.
Agent C█████: Probably. I usually wait here for my partner to pick me up. I work late shifts and this is the most convenient spot for him to meet him.
SCP-2138: No, noooo, not like dat. Youse always be givin' me change. Always steppin' in when some ungrateful shitstain tries to blow me off. Now, why would you be doin' dat, hmm? What exactly are ye' so scared of?
Agent C█████: I don't know what you're implying.
SCP-2138: I think you know exactly what I'm implying, you lil' shit.
Unidentified Male: Hey jackass, she's just trying to be nice. Fine, I'll give you your goddamn change, just leave the poor girl alone.

[SCP-2138 stops in its tracks and moves up close to Agent C█████'s face. It begins speaking in a tone a demeanor unusually coherent for its normal behavior.]
SCP-2138: You don't think I know what youse are up too? The next time one of youse tries to pull that shit on me, you ain't getting out that easy. Now fuck off away from my corner.
[SCP-2138 leaves down his alleyway and vanishes. Agent C█████ filed a report to Operations Center Micah as soon as the incident was resolved.]

Addendum - Agent H█████: The fact he said ‘one of youse’ seems to imply he’s aware of some sort of organized intervention, which honestly doesn't surprise me, though to what degree he’s aware of the Foundation itself I can’t say. Either way, despite his frustration, he’s still acting in his established parameters for now. We’ll take the threat as hot air and proceed with our regular operations until further notice.
SCP-2138 manifested around 1:01am on the morning of ██-██-2013. SCP-2138 targeted an individual: a young man in his mid 20s. The target refused, prompting SCP-2138 to start abusing him as expected of standard behavior. The man continued to ignore him, in which time Agent J██████ intervened and paid SCP-2138 a dollar coin. SCP-2138 took the coin and growled, apparently saying ‘I warned you’ before vanishing.
38 hours later, Agent J██████ sat in on a staff meeting at Site [REDACTED] for separate duties. Meeting attendants described him as smelling fiercely of body odor and his uniform as quite unkempt. Halfway through the meeting, when attendants were asked if they wanted refreshments, Agent J██████ asked for a beer. At the end of the meeting, he was pulled aside by Site Director █████, who reprimanded him for inappropriate conduct. Agent J██████ apologized for both his appearance and request, saying he 'didn't know where (they) came from.'
Dr A███, who was present at the meeting and also a member of SCP-2138's research team, noticed Agent J██████'s behavior and reported it to their superiors on the research team, stating her concern that his behavior matched early-onset signs of SCP-2138-1. Agent H█████ agreed to keep an eye on events.
The following weeks, Agent J██████ was described as becoming increasingly negligent of his duties and personal care. He came to work in clothes far below Foundation dress standards, and his cognitive functions seemed to deteriorate, becoming increasingly forgetful of both minor details and standard Foundation procedures. He also became increasingly irritable. He showed awareness of his behavior, and promised Agent H█████ on multiple occasions that he'd work on improving it, yet he never did. After an unacceptable number of grievances, Agent H█████ ordered Agent J██████ take an enforced time off to clean up his act.
On the second day of his mandatory time off, alerts from a police database showed Agent J██████ was arrested for drunk driving. Foundation agents went to retrieve him, and found him in a still intoxicated state. He was unshaven, smelt of body odor and feces, and was wearing only a heavily stained shirt and soiled underwear. When asked about his behavior, he said he 'had a rough night' and thought he'd 'have a few drinks to take the edge off'.
Agent J██████ was brought to Site 27 for questioning about his behavior. When brought up the possibility of being an instance of SCP-2138-1, Agent J██████ became enraged and viciously denied it, saying he paid 'that homeless bastard' as standard of the containment procedure. He begged for a beer or 'at least some sort of booze,' but was denied.
Agent J██████ was kept on-site in rehabilitation. He was given a number of memory and cognitive exercises to keep him mentally fit. During his first week of rehabilitation, Agent J██████ showed significant signs of improvement in both memory recollection and autonomy, and even began to show improved cleanliness. However, results began to drop heavily in subsequent weeks. Signs of both long-term and short-term memory loss began to manifest. Talks with his appointed psychologist showed he was aware of the deterioration, resulting in numerous angry outbursts and depressive states.
Agent J██████'s condition continued to deteriorate as standard of an instance of SCP-2138-1. Two and a half weeks into his rehabilitation, he began to show signs consistent with heroin withdrawal, including body pains, overproduced bodily fluids, fever, and insomnia. Blood tests taken around this time found traces of the drug in his system, despite never having had a history of drug abuse before.
Four weeks into his rehabilitation, Agent J██████ began to suffer fatigue, skin rashes, diarrhea, and a regular dry cough. A blood test taken at this time confirmed he was positive for HIV AIDS.
Six and a half weeks into his rehabilitation, Agent J██████ began to show behaviors consistent with dementia. He is now under full-time care of Foundation staff on Site 27.
Addendum - Agent H█████: It seems the SCP's threats were warranted. This one is on me; I should have taken more stock in its warning. Agent J██████ was a good operative, it's a shame to see him degenerate like this. I've scheduled an emergency meeting with the security detail and assigned researchers first thing tomorrow morning; it’s time to recompile the data we've collected and use it to escalate the containment protocols.
Agent H█████: The escalated containment procedures have proven mostly effective in stopping passersby from entering the exclusion zone. However, instances of SCP-2138 manifesting in the exclusion zone once trespassed have increased from 39% prior to zoning it off to 81%, possibility in retaliatory response to the decreased traffic. A four in five chance of manifestation is dangerously unacceptable; though most people are happy to cross the street and take the long route, some people just duck under the safety tape, while others even see it as an invitation to try and break the law. Agent C██████ caught a trio of teenage boys vandal the walls of the [REDACTED] building with graffiti. When ordered off, they just flipped the camera the bird. C██████ couldn't even get to them before 2138 manifested.
They didn't have a single cent on them. Now I have to explain to some poor mother that her son is never going to be able to have a job and will probably die from AIDS.
Further escalation of the containment procedures may be necessary. I'll be discussing options with operations staff in the near future.

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of the SCP, complete containment has been impossible. Efforts instead will be made to discredit it through internal and external means. Agents G███████████ and P████ have successfully infiltrated the █████ Corporation's offices and made their way into the coding and development teams. Efforts will be made to patch in game-breaking bugs and intentional but subtle imbalance player characters in hopes that they will agitate players and the SCP will begin to lose popularity.
A counter-marketing team is working on buying the SCP out of all major gaming leagues, including █████ and ███, though efforts have proven difficult due to the popularity of the SCP.
SCP-XXX-J is not to be played during work hours. Anyone caught doing so, or who bring up grievances with another employee over happenings while playing the SCP, will be put under disciplinary measures.
Description: SCP-XXX-J is a popular computer game called [REDACTED], developed by the █████ Corporation. The game is a top-down roleplaying game (RPG) controlled in the style of a real-time strategy (RTS) game, played between two teams of five players. The game currently has ██-million players worldwide and is watched frequently on streaming services such as [REDACTED].
The game's primary map is a woodland-themed environment consisting of two bases - one for each team - and three primary lanes, each with forested areas connecting paths between them (colloquially known as the 'jungle'). The goal of the map is to push towards the enemy's base and destroy their primary structure, known as a [REDACTED]. To aid players in this task are computer-controlled expendable minions, called 'creeps', which help advance in the lanes, and each lane has a series of towers that defend each team and must be destroyed to advance. Each match takes anywhere between twenty minutes to an hour depending how fast one team wins.
Each player picks a character - colloquially known as 'champions' or 'heroes' - to play in the game. Each character usually has four primary abilities, and each hero focuses on a number of different play styles, including damage, endurance, disabling, and the like. Players advance their characters by completing tasks, primarily by killing creeps and enemy heroes, which grants them gold to buy items, and experience to gain stats and new abilities. The game has over 100 characters to choose from and over 50 items to augment them.
SCP-XXX-J's anomalous effect will not manifest until a certain number of games have been played. Depending on the temperament subject, this can take anywhere between 10 to 150 games. Frequent players of SCP-XXX-J will begin to manifest a rage-state. While generally finding the game pleasant and enjoyable at first, praising it for its depth, skill cap, and replayability, over time they will begin to find frustrations with the game. Primarily this will manifest in intolerance to even the slightest misplays on their team mates' part; common language espoused in such fits include 'noob', 'scrub' , '[EXPLETIVE DELETED]', '[EXPLETIVE DELETED]', '[EXPLETIVE DELETED]' and 'go [EXPLETIVE DELETED] you [EXPLETIVE DELETED].' Other common expressed grievances include certain game mechanics or character balance, even if there is no logical precedent for their disdain.
Despite this rage state, players will feel compelled to continue playing the game. Common reasoning for this includes that they enjoy the game, but they 'hate playing with (inexperienced/bad players)' or they 'just want to win one more game.' Such a nature is synonymous with addictive behaviors and abusive relationships. Combined with the rage-inducing nature of the SCP, the anomalous effect most easily triggers off people with addictive and/or asocial behaviors, though this hasn't stopped other types of people from being affected; it displays even in individuals whose psyche profiles show high levels of self-control, slow tempers, and no previous history of excessive angry behavior or outbursts.
This rage state will generally wear off once a player has stopped engaging with the SCP, though it may linger for some time afterwards. It may also persist towards known individuals whom the player has been playing with, often holding grudges towards one another.
Agent G███████████: Attempts at sabotaging game balance have been ongoing and proven especially effective. The fast-push metagame has been received poorly by players, so I've purposely put efforts into giving buffs to already-dominant characters such as [REDACTED 1] and [REDACTED 2]. [REDACTED 1]'s Mass Swarm has had its minions' health go up slightly, while [REDACTED 2] had the cooldown of its global teleport decreased. To array suspicion I've increased the cooldown of its ultimate, under pretense that a map-wide chain lightning helps its farm too much. Counterpicks such as [REDACTED 3] and [REDACTED 4] have had their AOE abilities nerfed to ensure these picks remain unchallenged.
We've also reduced [REDACTED 5]'s armor by 1. It's minor, but players seem to be catching onto the fact we've done the same for the past two major content patches.
Also I've buffed the damage output of [REDACTED 6]'s Mirror Image ability. Because why the hell not. I mean in the end it only accounts for public games, but holy hell, is it fun to watch them noobs squirm.
Addendum - Dr Corvin (1): 'Well maybe if Young wasn't such a [EXPLETIVE DELETED] NOOB support he wouldn't have cost me that game! I was one rank away from gold! ONE! [EXPLETIVE DELETED]! RANK! Now I need to win another five matches just to get a CHANCE to get my rank up!'

Special Containment Procedure: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in safe storage on Site ██. Individuals must have explicit permission from the Site Director or project manager in order to withdraw SCP-XXXX. All conversations must be done with the provided walkman, which will record all audio and will subsequently be transcribed for reference. Users must also record how many times they have used SCP-XXXX, and how many times the audio has changed.
Following Incident XXXX-4, SCP-XXXX is not to be used for personal reasons and is limited strictly for research purposes.
Description: SCP-XXX is an audio CD titled 'Dr. ██████'s Guide To Living Your Life to the Fullest'. The CD was published by ████████ and narrated by ██████ ████████. A small number of copies have been published worldwide, and no other CDs contain anomalous properties; the Foundation has the only known anomalous copy.
The audio consists an intro and outro that consistently play every time. The middle section, however, changes depending on the individual listening to it. It will give a vague, but understandable dialogue implying how the individual will die. The tone of the narration will always be done in the same upbeat tone as the rest of the audio.
The same audio will play in subsequent listens until the subject takes means to alter their implied cause of death, assuming it is preventable to some measure. Subsequent plays after this will give new audio implying what new way an individual will die. While not completely determined, there has been a correlation between the number of altered deaths and the higher likely hood of fatality soon after listening to SCP-XXXX. Tests are ongoing to determine whether there is a link in this correlation.

Despite this, Foundation agents have managed to contact the CD distributors, under the pretence of receiving a faulty CD and using a faked, non-fatal sounding sample for the middle section of the audio. They claimed that while they have no recollection of the middle section of the audio, they said the intro and outro were audio used for free Demo CDs. While they said they weren't producing the CDs any more, they offered to send us a CD with the proper audio. We accepted the offer; the regular CD lasts an hour and gives a generalized introduction to CBD and mindfulness techniques, and suggests the listener buy the full book for a more in-depth guide. No anomalous properties were found on this CD.

Dr. ██████ was assigned to research on SCP-682. After this test, he was cleared for transfer to another project. A few weeks after this change, Dr. ████████ tested SCP-XXXX again.
'Heart attacks can be sudden and happen for no apparent reason. Reduce the risk with regular physical exercise and a healthy diet!'
Dr. ██████, while in decent health, had a very sedentary lifestyle and a below-average diet. After hearing this, he began regular exercise and went on a diet plan. He tested SCP-XXXX again after a few months.
'Watch your step; hazards are everywhere! Keep your eye on the road and your head may stay in one piece!'
Approximately two months later, Dr. ██████ ended up tripping on a pothole during a regular run and landed on the pavement. He experienced a major concussion and died on his way to the hospital.
