SCPFungus

photo of SCP-XXXX specimen taken in ██████ Missouri, USA

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 1x1x1 m containment unit with 50 cm of compost. Unit temperature is to remain at 22℃. All personnel are required to wear Class B bio hazard suits when interacting with SCP-XXXX and are not allowed to remove portions of SCP-XXXX or SCP-XXXX-1A except when authorized for testing. As of 05/20/2007, testing of SCP-XXXX while in bloom is strictly prohibited. All instances of SCP-XXXX-1A are to be reported for containment and held in a standard containment unit. All SCP-XXXX-1B, C, and D specimens not in containment are to be apprehended and reported for termination.

Any unauthorized SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1A samples found are to be reported for termination. Personnel responsible for failing to destroy SCP-XXXX-1A test samples within the 48-day testing time limit will be reprimanded and transferred. All personnel exposed to SCP-XXXX-2C2 or are suffering SCP-XXXX-2C2 infection are to report for immediate medical attention and decontamination. Security checks for SCP-XXXX-1C, SCP-XXXX-1A, and SCP-XXXX-2 contamination among security personnel and on facility grounds are to be conducted bi-weekly.

Description: SCP-XXXX's outer appearance is identical to Morchella Esculenta with few biological variants including three layers of tissue; a gray, spongy outer layer, a red secondary layer 0.5cm thick, encasing a black flexible core measuring 0.2 cm in thickness. Although 20℃ is optimum for SCP-XXXX growth and contamination, object appears resilient to temperature differences, but can be destroyed at extreme temperatures.

Consumption of various SCP-XXXX layers have lead to full-body numbness1, increased mental capacity2, minor telepathy [SCP-XXXX-2A1 in Test Log 1[[/footnote], the liquefying of internal organs3, and SCP-XXXX-2 contamination and conversion. All substances produced by SCP-XXXX to date have been classified as SCP-XXXX-2. All test samples or substances produced or manufactured using SCP-XXXX-2 objects have been classified as SCP-XXXX-3.4 (See Test Log-XXXX-01 and Test Log-XXXX-02.)

Observations have revealed a three week period of increased contamination rate when the fruiting body of the specimen becomes covered in a white moss-like substance and produces small black flowers. After two weeks, the moss coating grows into thin white tendrils similar to Hericium erinaceus for 7 days. The fragility of the tendrils and their tendency to stick to larger organisms after making physical contact allows for the spread of SCP-XXXX and the conversion other species, specifically humans and other fauna, into fungal beings via SCP-XXXX-2C2 infection. This period of physical alterations and heightened contamination rates have been classified as SCP-XXXX being "in bloom".

████ instances of SCP-XXXX-2 contamination resulting in fungal specimens have been reported and classified as SCP-XXXX-1. Humanoid/former human specimens are identified as SCP-XXXX-1A. Non-humanoid/former fauna specimens have been designated as SCP-XXXX-1C. (See SCP-XXXX-1A Notes for more information)

SCP-XXXX was collected by April 19, 1973 from █████████, Brazil by Agent Rocha after a mass recall regarding safety concerns over recent shipments of Morchella Esculenta supplied by [REDACTED]. Numerous disappearances and unusual events had been reported after the initial release of SCP-XXXX by [REDACTED] for general consumption, however the report was initially dismissed as an attempt at defamation due to the conflict between [REDACTED] and the local residents. (See Interview Log-01) However, despite the recall efforts of [REDACTED], the fungi spread to several cities in and out of the country of Brazil resulting in the rash of disappearances within several villages, towns and major cities.

Foundation agents Rocha and ████ ███████ were assigned to investigate [REDACTED]. Upon arrival, they reported that the company buildings were closed and that its buildings and the surrounding neighborhoods were abandoned. Closer inspection of the surrounding non-residential area revealed ██ instances of SCP-XXXX-1A and ███ of SCP-XXXX-1C specimens. A containment team was dispatched to collect all SCP-XXXX-1A and 1C subjects as well as samples of SCP-XXXX. All other instances of SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 B-D were then terminated via incineration. Reports also noted that in some areas, only one SCP-XXXX-1A was located with unusual psychological symptoms possibly linked to SCP-XXXX-1 cannibalism. (See Interview Log-03)

Further efforts to locate, contain, and prevent further spread of SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1A and B are in progress.
