Item #: SCP-XXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the inherent dangers linked with using and being within close proximity to SCP-XXX, and especially after the [DATA EXPUNGED] incident; it is essential that when SCP-XXX is not in use it should be secured within a titanium 2m3 vault.

SCP-XXX must at all times remain on Foundation premises and should never be left without CCTV coverage inside the vault and at most 3 guards stationed outside the vault. At present, there are no known means of destroying SCP-XXX, let alone damaging it. However, because of ongoing experiments this is yet to be fully corroborated.

Due to the nature of SCP-XXX it is under the jurisdiction of MTF Chi-3 personnel. Non MTF Chi-3 Personnel are forbidden from being within 5 meters of SCP-XXX. Non MTF Chi-3 Personnel are forbidden from touching, reading, gazing or even glancing at SCP-XXX, those who disobey will receive rapid and harsh punishment. Guard duty should be rotated bi-monthly with a psychological analysis at the end of their rotation. Personnel should not be exposed to or come within a 5 meter radius of SCP-XXX for more than 5 minutes at a time with 24 hour intervals.

Description: SCP-XXX is a large heavily warped and damaged book written in two separate and distinct languages. Half of the book is written in an early Biblical Hebrew dialect and efforts are currently underway to translate this section of SCP-XXX. Though it has proved difficult due to the psychological influence that SCP-XXX exerts onto its users. The second language is composed of runes and symbols never before seen on Earth and are not related to any other known language. Remarkably, even though the outside of the book has suffered heavy damage and warping, the inside pages are pristine and immaculate.

SCP-XXX was found within the ancient ruins of an as of yet unknown civilisation within a remote region of modern day Kurdistan during the final days of the Anglo-Iraq war. Reports indicate that about 50% of the individuals who initially handled the book subsequently suffered mental breakdowns often leading to schizophrenia and extreme psychotic episodes. Documents from the expedition also note that effected personnel began warning of impending doom and the "end times", becoming increasingly agitated as time progressed. The reports showed that 10-14 days after initial exposure the individuals showing symptoms of psychosis and schizophrenia would try to kill others around them (making no distinction between loved ones and strangers) before taking their own life.

What happened to the others that were exposed to SCP-XXX during its excavation and did not succumb to its "corruption" is not yet known. MTF Chi-3 units have been dispatched to try and ascertain the chronological order of events involving SCP-XXX's whereabouts [See Addendum SCP-XXX-A].

On the first page of the Hebrew section there is a short paragraph that reads:

“Thou shalt not study these words… For God shall know… Conversely, thine eye shall be opened… And ye shall be unto Him… truly understanding Good and Evil… And thou shalt pass through the flame and the fire and the brimstone… Unto the place of His immeasurable durance and anguish… He who has horns like a lamb and who speaks like a dragon… And He shall be awoken.”

Dr. ██████ believes this indicates what the book could have been used for, as well as being a warning to the "uninitiated" not to read any further. However, due to the foundations trust in its procedures, it's personnel and it's premises. The O5 council has deemed SCP-XXX safe enough for further research [ on its contents as well as trying to understand the reasons for its psychosis inducing effects.

MTF Chi-3 Alpha Squad Leader's report

Begin Entry

Name : Agent ███████
Age : ██
Gender : ████

Local authorities in England, ██████, alerted The Foundation to what they termed "satanic ritualistic sacrifices" committed by a father (referred to as Subject) on his Family. According to documents obtained at the crime scene, SCP-XXX had been extensively studied by Subject (much to the annoyance of his wife [Addendum txt-msg]). What is different about this incident when compared to previous cases of SCP-XXX induced violence is that Subject did not take his own life at the end of the rampage and is still at large. Subject is presumed to have purchased SCP-XXX through a mutual friend who was subsidising the archaeological work in Kurdistan. The Foundation has now secured SCP-XXX and has given jurisdiction to MTF Chi-3, allowing for further investigation into its purpose.
