Item #: SCP-5248

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Individual instances of SCP-5248 are stored together in a standard containment room at Site 4. Room is equipped with one two three four bookshelves for easy storage. Instances of SCP-5248 are organized chronologically (SCP-5248-0001, SCP-5248-0002, etc.) but a tablet computer containing an up-to-date alphabetical listing of SCP-5248 instances is available on request.

CACK software should run constantly on Site 4's servers, and its successful operation should be verified by Site-4's IT department every 3 days. When the CACK software identifies that the known conditions for an appearance of SCP-5248 have been met, it will automatically notify the nearest mobile task force. The subject should be kept under covert observation (including in-home searches when possible) for 1 week. If an instances of SCP-5248 is discovered, it should be removed immediately. If this cannot be done covertly, then Class C amnestics should be administered to any non-foundation personnel who knew of the object.

Any new instances of SCP-5248 should be examined for deviations from known perameters before being sent to Site 4 for permanent containment.

In addition, the foundation will maintain a front organization masquerading as The Gaboolb Company to intercept any unanticipated instances of SCP-5248. This will include a complaint hotline, and a child-friendly website with a prominently available complaint form.

CACK Software: CACK (Children And a Confirmed Kill) software was developed by foundation programmers to maintain a list of individuals who meet the criteria for being affected by SCP-5248. Such individuals must have American citizenship, and work in a profession where they may be required to use deadly force in the line of duty. They must also be the parents of children under the age of 10. Any instance of these individuals receiving a confirmed kill will flag that individual for immediate observation.

Description: SCP-5248 is a series of children's books published by "The Gaboolb Company." Each of the books is drawn in a brightly colored cartoon style. Depending on the age of the recipient, the books come in hardback, paperback, or with thick cardboard pages safe for very young children.

When a serviceperson with children under the age of 10 kills in the line of duty, there is a roughly 22% chance that an instance of SCP-5248 will appear among the posessions of that serviceperson's child. (In the event that the serviceperson has multiple children, only one instance of the object will appear, in the posession of a child that appears to be determined randomly.) It is so far unclear whether the 22% of instances in which SCP-5248 manifests are truly random, or whether there are as-yet undiscovered conditions for the manifestation of SCP-5248. Investigations are ongoing.

To the best of the foundation's knowledge, the books appear simultanously with the moment of death for the killed individual. However, foundation researchers have thus far been unsuccessful in making an instance of SCP-5248 manifest under controlled conditions.

Each instances of SCP-5248 is similar in narrative style. The title is always "Meet Little [Name]!" Where the name is the most childlike variation of the name of the person the target's parent has killed. So if one "James Putineschi" is the subject, the title might read "Meet Little Jimmy!"

The books range from 15-30 pages, with the first 80% of those telling the life story of the now dead person. These retelling focus on the most positive aspects of that person's life, such as happy childhood events, falling in love, being kind to children, etc. No mention is ever made of any crimes that person may have committed, or events that would be characterized as 'sad,' even if those events are central to the story's narrative they are glossed over.

As far as the foundation has been able to verify, the narratives presented in instances of SCP-5248 are all factually accurate, though they may mischaracterize events by omitting important details. A subject may be described being kind to children, for example, with no mention made that this kindness was a way of luring children into a situation where they could be raped or killed.

Near the end of the book the target's parent will appear in the story and kill the book's protagonist. The parent is drawn in the same cartoon style as the rest of the book, but their features are clearly recognizable. Not unlike the work done by a caricaturist. In addition, the text always referrs to this character by their relation to the target child. (ie. "Andy's mom," "Emily's daddy.")

Following the death of the subject, the narrative takes on a darker tone. It maintains its cartoonish style, but begins to depict scenes of intense suffering or depravity. In many instances the color palette shifts to much darker tones. Many instances describe an afterlife, though no two afterlives yet described have been consistent with one another. Others describe the real world aftermath of the death. Unlike the story up to this point, the Foundation has been able to verify that these claims are usually (though not universally) false.

Object Identification Circumstances of Death Post-death storybook scenes.
SCP-5248-0023 Subject was a serial rapist. Shot 3 times while attempting to flee during a raid of his home. A group of men with paper bags over their faces are shown having non-consensual sex with the subject. A number of scenes are depicted, including several men sexually penetrating the subject's bullet holes. The final scene depicts one of the men's ejaculate exploding like a shotgun blast from the back of the subject's head.
SCP-5248-0311 An enemy combatant killed in Grenada during Operation Urgent Fury. The subject is shown in a black void. Large disembodied hands appear and take hold of him, and begin to tear small pieces of skin and flesh from his body. Each page is divided into multiple panels to show the entire process of stripping the subject down to nothing. On the penultimate page, the hands press the unrecognizable shreds together, and the subject is shown restored, his body whole again. The final page shows the hands resume tearing away at his body. The subject has a speech bubble where he says "Oh no, not again! Please!"

SCP-5248-1041 A lone insurgent, caught attempting to place an IED on the road leading to an American military encampment in Afghanistan. Unusually, the subject is not killed until the final page of this book. Instead, the target's father and squadmates are shown to surround the subject. They take turns punching and kicking him. The target's father then disrobes and begins to have non-consentual anal sex with the subject. The final page shows the target's father ejaculating and firing his gun into the back of the subject's head simultaneously. Note: The target's father was brought in for an interview and shown the final pages of SCP-5248-1041. (After having previously been given Class C Amnestics to erase his recollection of the book). He broke down in tears and confessed to all of the acts depicted therein. So, in this case at least, the final act of the books appears to be factual.
