Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: A fenced off perimeter should be made around the shoreline of SCP-XXXX under the guise of a wildlife reserve and the perimeter is to be monitored at all times by armed units with appropriate seasonal camouflage. Entering the lake is strictly prohibited unless for testing purposes and all personel attempting to enter the lake without permission from a level 3 researcher or higher will be immediately detained for questioning. Maps with a visual mark for the lake should be edited to no longer include the lake. Instead a general area around SCP-XXXX will be marked as a wildlife reservation to prevent intrusion from hikers and explorers.

The only connection with the instances of SCP-XXXX-1 should be the marked phone on the desk of Dr. Crogan, level 3 researcher at site-██ Dr. Halsworth, the new level 3 researcher in charge of SCP-XXXX's study. No other objects or methods should be used to contact the instances of SCP-XXXX-1 to prevent risk of exposure to their anomalous effects. All personal that enter the lake under the effects of a SCP-XXXX-1 instance are considered lost and no effort should be made to retrieve them

Description: SCP-XXXX is situated at the bottom of a unnamed lake in wilderness of northern Kentucky. The lake has a estimated volume of 87 cubic kilometers and a total shoreline of 13 kilometers however attempts to measure the total depth of the lake have yielded inconsistent results. The water in the lake is chemically identical to water and shows no anomalous properties on its own with the exception that water entering or exiting the lake does not change the overall water level.

SCP-XXXX is a settlement the stretches along the bottom of the lake with the topography of a 18th century ‘boom town’ made along the west as mining settlements. Despite this the construction of SCP-XXXX is far more modern and is identical to 21st century construction of the nearby area. All buildings have proven impossible to enter or see into through windows and doorways and attempts to enter any of the buildings of SCP-XXXX have failed. Buildings and electrical equipment of SCP-XXXX show no negative signs of long term water exposure and seem overall unaffected by their placement underwater.

At the current time of writing this document SCP-XXXX includes:

  • Twenty-three Twenty-four Twenty-five Twenty-six Residential houses
  • Two general stores
  • One hardware store
  • One medical pratice
  • One town hall
  • One Sheriffs office

SCP-XXXX is currently populated by a estimated population of 42 instances of SCP-XXXX-1 claiming to be the existing population of Lakeford, Kentucky. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are identical to humans and can communicate openly with others, usually in a rather inviting and friendly tone. All SCP-XXXX-1 instances display a constant euphoric and accepting personality and at the time of documentation have shown no signs of negative emotion (See incident XXXX-A). Much like SCP-XXXX the instances of SCP-XXXX-1 show no effects of their location underwater and have been seen moving, speaking, and breathing without restriction as if in open air.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 have also been known to have a anomalous psychological effect on humans. Upon coming in contact with another human from outside SCP-XXXX they will frequently attempt to convince them that the town is a perfect, crime-free, utopia. Long term exposure to instances of SCP-XXXX-1, whether through direct contact or distance communication, causes feelings of euphoria and a compulsion to move their place of residence to SCP-XXXX. Those affected by a SCP-XXXX-1 will attempt to travel to SCP-XXXX as quick as possible, becoming agitated and even violent when others prevent this goal, with whatever belongings they have at hand and meet with a specific instance (Hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1A) who claims to be the mayor of SCP-XXXX. The affected person will greet SCP-XXXX-1A before entering the town hall. Those who enter the town hall to move in have never been seen again even as part of SCP-XXXX’s community. However, two to three days after disappearance all personal belong’s owned by the person will disappear spontaneously and a new residential home will have been added to SCP-XXXX. Testing is ongoing to inquire how SCP-XXXX determines ownership over an object. To date an estimated nine homes have been added to SCP-XXXX prior to containment.

Addendum XXXX-1: History Of Containment

SCP-XXXX was first brought to foundation attention after an excess of missing persons reports in a condensed area caused a county wide search of the local wilderness from the ████████ county police. Upon finding the lake a dive team was assembled to scour the bottom in search of remains in case foul play had been involved. Multiple divers were exposed to SCP-XXXX and immediatly reported it to the local police. A plant inside the department relayed the find to the Foundation where they took over operations to investigate and properly treated the exposed officers with amnestics without incident.

Addendum XXXX-2: Crogan’s Interview

SCP-XXXX-1 instances are extremely willing to communicate with foundation personnel for questioning especially SCP-XXXX-1A who sees it mostly as a chance to vouch for the living conditions of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX-1A is a man by the name of ███████ █████ who claims to be the elected mayor of SCP-XXXX and insists that it is the town of Lakeford, Kentucky. A Lakeford, Kentucky did exist in 186█ but was abandoned by the 1920’s and later torn down for a reforestation movement. Furthermore, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 claim to have no knowledge of their location underwater and when questioned on these effects respond with great confusion. Below is the transcript of an interview conducted by Dr. Crogan with SCP-XXXX-1A for questioning on the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX and its residents.
