Locust of the Abyss
rating: 0+x
SCP-1183 upon discovery in the cave complex.

Item #: SCP-1183 (temporary)

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Currently housed in Reliquary Site 777, Item SCP-1183 is to be kept locked in a 7x4x4 steel chamber at all times. The chamber must be soundproof as the entity seems to be activated by sound, especially tubular resonator sound (brass instruments). Surveillance has to be active at all times, and must include video and especially audio audio monitoring. Background noise must be kept to a minimum.

Description: SCP-1183 appears as massive locust (five meters in lenght), with two elongated (bonelike, probably non-chitinous) tusks protruding from the jaws and five chitinous shorter horn-like appendages protruding from the head. The thorax and abdomen appear as covered by metal plates of steel-like appearance. Numerous spikes on the legs. Almost unreadable script, identified as Enochian, covers the abdomen plates, the readable words being TELOCH, meaning "death". SALBROX, meaning "sulphur", BALTOH, meaning "righteousness", GIZYAX, meaning "earthquakes" and SIATRIS, meaning "scorpion". It possess a long ovipositor, which alludes to the fact this is probably a species and not a single entity, despite its uncommon traits. It was found in a massive cave complex ███ kms west of Mount Sinai (Egypt), after a minor seismic event.
The entity doesn't appear to be "alive", as when inactive, it is completely inert and immobile (it does not require feeding nor maintenance of any kind). It does not radiate heat, radiations or anything in the known wavelength. Its only other state is of extreme aggressive activity, going after other living being in its immediate vicinity.

Addendum: 1183-1 by Dr. ████████ on 11/03/2012:

From, the general shape and the "activated by brass sounds", I can say with sufficient certainty that this entity matches the description of the "locusts of the abyss", from the Christian Bible (KJV), St. John's Revelation, 9, 3-10.

3And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
[verses 4-6]
7And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men for five months.

Assuming this is really one of these locusts, the differences from biblical account are likely to be intended as mistranslations or personal interpretation of religious imagery. The shape like horses most likely refers to the size, while the crown like gold refers to the corona of chitinous spikes. This specimen lacks wings to account for the sound of many chariots, but it might not be the only one. Further research in the area is highly recommended. I don't see anything to account for the hair of women and faces of men. The teeth of lions could be the two bone tusks and the tails like unto scorpions might refer to the ovipositor, again with either mistranslation or misinterpretation. According to Bible canon, John of Patmos (St. John) wrote The Revelation after a divine vision, but both Justin Martyr and Irenaeus translated and rewrote it, so we can expect some difference.
