Murderous Metallic Mollusks

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is, due to it's immovable nature and integral role in the global ecosystem, currently contained on-site at ███████ archipelago, ███ km off the coast of ██████, South America.

Biological Containment Site-94 is to be maintained on ███████ archipelago, under the guise of the Southern Center for Protection of Marine Life oceanographic research institute, and staffed by 7 personnel with sufficient background in marine biology to maintain plausible deniability. All marine traffic is to be redirected away from SCP-XXXX under the guise of environmental protection measures. All supplies are to be delivered by air.

In a 6 km perimeter around the area inhabited by SCP-XXXX, a carbon-fire mesh is to be deployed and maintained to prohibit any metallic objects from entering SCP-XXXX's area of influence while allowing critical marine life to pass through. No metallic objects containing either Potassium, Lithium, Iron, Rubidium, Magnesium or Titanium are permitted to enter the water body of the safe zone designated around SCP-XXXX.

Regular inspections of SCP-XXXX's current size and health are to be carried out by on-site personnel on a bi-monthly basis using the provided, full-rubber standard diving dress utilizing the on-site compressor unit.

Furthermore, SCP-XXXX is to be provided with a nutrient-mix consisting of 2 kg of Li-oxide and 3.5 kg of Fe-III-oxide powder on a monthly basis. This amount of nutrition has been determined to allow SCP-XXXX to maintain it's current size without endangering the surrounding ecosystem by triggering an extended activation event.

Description: Phenotypically, SCP-XXXX is an unusually dense colony of Tridacna gigas ssp. ████1 . Anomalous behavior occurs upon introduction of any pure metals or alloys containing Potassium, Lithium, Iron, Rubidium, Magnesium or Titanium. In this case, the entire colony of SCP-XXXX will undergo a significant activation event in which every individual secretes a highly concentrated protein-acid mixture, immediately dissolving any metallic compounds in the vicinity and simultaneously destroying all organic matter but itself. The dissolved metallic compounds are then integrated into the shell of SCP-XXXX individuals while the particulate organic compounds created are used for nutritional purposes. The exact composition of this acid mixture could not yet be determined, as it breaks down rapidly upon cessation of the activation event through unknown means. Preliminary research concludes that the compound is stabilized by a catalytic protein matrix that seems to be linked to SCP-XXXX by unknown means, enabling the colony to keep the compound active for any period of time. Sustaining an activation event for the purpose of studying this mixture for more than 1.5 hours would be highly dangerous (See Addendum 1).

An activation event will also occur upon removal of an SCP-XXXX individual from the colony, upon damaging an SCP-XXXX individual beyond it's natural healing capabilities or upon depriving the colony of metallic nutrients for too long, as the death and subsequent degradation of more than █ individuals will release sufficient Fe-III-Oxide to trigger a resonance cascade wherein the activation of the neighboring individual dissolves the now-vacant shell, which triggers a defensive response in surrounding individuals.

For details on the recovery of SCP-XXXX please refer to Incident 1a and Recovery Log.
