Look Of Terror

Item #: SCP-####

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures:
The SCP-#### subjects require no feeding, or maintenance of any kind.

All 5 7 8 10 14 15 11 SCP-#### subjects are to be fitted with ankle monitors, and held in a specially designed cell in Containment Area – 16. The cell is to consist of an inner room with dual layered walls, floor and ceiling. The gap between layers should be sufficient to insert a laser detection grid to detect breaches of the inner wall before the outer layer is breached. The one entrance to this room is through a full height security turnstile to be kept locked at a times when not in use.

The outer room should contain 1 set of full body restraints, 1 shroud, and 1 human-sized casket for each of the SCP-#### subjects out of sight of the turnstile, and 1 entrance; a steel security door also out of sight of the turnstile. Both inner and outer room are to be maintained in absolute darkness.

No personnel are to visually observe SCP-#### subjects directly or indirectly. No security cameras are to be placed in or near the cell, no infra red equipment is to be used in or near the cell, and the cell is to have no windows or lighting of any kind.

If inner room confinement is at risk of failure or any transportation of subjects is required, a team of Class-D personnel numbering no less than 2 personnel for every SCP-#### subject is to enter the cell and secure the restraints and shrouds on all of the SCP-#### subjects before placing them in the caskets. Only after all SCP-#### subjects are secured in the caskets can the outer door be re-opened. The caskets can then be moved safely as long as they remain closed.

All Personnel exposed to the SCP-#### subjects must then adhere to the standard SCP-#### exposure quarantine procedure.

Additional Security Measures:
If at ANY point an SCP-#### subject is observed without the subject’s face being covered, observing personnel should immediately comply with standard SCP-#### exposure quarantine procedure.

In the event of containment breach, all personnel have kill-on-sight authorisation and should avoid looking directly at the subjects, living or dead. Though maintaining only a peripheral visual contact with subjects reduces chance of “infection”, it by no means eliminates it, and any personnel that encounter any escaped subjects and do not immediately contract SCP-#### should observe standard quarantine procedure for SCP-#### exposure.

If SCP-####-001 is spotted during a containment breach, the section should be locked down immediately, and subject SCP-####-001 reacquired.
Additionally all security footage of the subjects obtained by Area CCTV should be destroyed, including backups and any personnel who have viewed said footage should submit to aforementioned SCP-#### exposure quarantine procedure.

As no certain upper limit of the latency of SCP-#### has been established, it is imperative that if any personnel that have ever been exposed to SCP-#### subjects start having difficulty shaking a vivid mental image of SCP-####-001’s face, no matter how long since exposure, they contact SCP Foundation personnel A.S.A.P and be placed in quarantine until the image subsides.

SCP-#### Exposure Quarantine Procedure: Personnel are to be placed in full body restraints and a shroud secured over the head. The subject is then given a series of simple auditory logic questions every 2 hours for a period of 24 hours. If at any point the quarantined personnel fail to respond to 3 consecutive questions, “infection” will be assumed, and they will be confined with the other SCP-#### subjects.

Description:
The first case of SCP #### was discovered in 2002 in a section of the London Underground that had been walled off since WW2. When workers broke through the wall they reported seeing a child in the tunnel before contact was lost. When discovered, ███ ██████ ███████ ████ uncommunicative and seemed singularly driven to approach ██████ ██ ████. ████ ███████ ███ ███ █████ █████ ██████████ █████████ █████████ the area was quarantined. Because of the extremely infectious nature of this behaviour, ███ ███ ██████████ ██████ ██ ██████ ████████, as well as the proximity to a large population centre, ██ ███ ███████ ██ █████████ ███ ████████ ████████. ████ █████ ███████ ██ █████████ ███ █████ ██████, the SCP foundation was alerted.

SCP #### subjects seem relaxed except for a fixed look of terror on their face. The subjects are uncommunicative, and seem to be driven by an impulse to make eye contact with anyone close by.
Though the cause is unknown, transmission is believed to be achieved by any SCP #### subject’s eyes entering another human’s visual field. The probability and rate of infection seem to decrease the less directly or clearly the subject’s eyes are viewed, with complete obstruction of the subject’s eyes or removal of all light rendering it harmless. Though the subjects will attempt to remove any obstructions and/or restrain intended victims, they have never shown any intent towards causing bodily harm.

Every internal examination of an SCP #### subject has shown nothing physically out of the ordinary besides decreased brain activity, and no cause for SCP ####, though external examinations have shown the subjects to be unaffected by changes in temperature and air pressure, and the subjects seem not to eat, drink or breath, and produce no waste products.
The subject originally recovered from the London Underground Tunnel (designated SCP ####-001) appears to be a girl no older than 10, and unlike other SCP #### subjects, does not seem to age or be susceptible to any form of harm, which precludes any current possibility of Termination.

Since many SCP personnel were contaminated before method of transmission and proper containment procedure were devised, we have managed to measure that the time between visual contact and onset of SCP-#### is between 1 second and 6 hours, depending on severity of exposure.

Between observing a SCP-#### subject’s eyes and exhibiting the same condition, personnel reported being unable to shake the image of SCP-####-001’s face, even if the personnel had not seen SCP ####-001 itself.

The ability to pass on SCP #### remains, even after death, until the eyes are destroyed. Furthermore, all photographs or video footage which contain SCP #### subject’s eyes also pass on the condition.

Addendum:
Any SCP #### outbreak outside of this facility would be extremely difficult to contain. Any visual assessment detailed enough to confirm a case of SCP #### would cause the observer to contract SCP #### almost immediately, making collection of all SCP #### subjects nearly impossible.
The only effective containment would be a nuclear strike of the affected area. Any surviving creature would be confirmed as SCP ####-001 and could be recaptured. However, if the outbreak is not caught in time, containment would be impossible. As SCP #### subjects do not breath, they could cross oceans simply by walking or swimming.

Researcher Summary
SCP-#### is extremely dangerous, and can never be allowed to get out. Because of the possibility that it could survive SCP Foundation nuclear fail-safe it is my recommendation that termination of SCP-####-001 be carried out as soon as a method is devised to do so.
The extreme ease of SCP-#### transmission, possibility for delayed onset and potential loss of life due to an outbreak warrant SCP ####’s classification as Keter.
