Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object class: Euclid (Safe class pending)

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a medium sized containment room with an outlet to power SCP-XXXX-01. The room is to be furnished with a table on which SCP-XXXX-01 is placed on and a chair for those interacting with the object. The room should at all times also have two (2) sets of ear plugs at ready.

The room is to be guarded by one level 1 guard, to whom a security form signed by Dr. Veripuu must be shown to interact with the item. The guard is to have a aluminum foil lined bag and a set of ear plugs in case SCP-XXXX becomes violent. If the broadcasting privilige is removed, SCP-XXXX-01 is to be kept in the bag, but still connected to the power outlet. The exact frequency of SCP-XXXX is level-2 classified information and the frequency is only allowed to be broadcasted by special radios. SCP-XXXX has so far kept its promise to broadcast only on its designated radios, although “loyalty checks” are to be performed regularly by setting un-designated radios to its freguency. All other radios have been modified to block all frequencies between ██████ and ██████.

Description: SCP-XXXX-01 is a device that resembles a large wooden radio. On its front side are a speaker and a microphone, through which main interaction with SCP-XXXX takes place. Two dials are available as well, one for volume and one presumably for changing frequencies, however as it is glued to its place it is unknown if it functions. The volume dial is functional and it is possible to “mute” SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX only notices this through its microphone. On the top is a small broadcasting antenna, which is the current source of SCP:XXXX. The entire device is rectangular in shape, constructed mainly from plywood and parts from other radios. The device constantly broadcasts the frequency of SCP-XXXX. Some mechanism inside is designed to limit the broadcast to a radius of 400 m, although due to the rather delicate nature of the wiring, its workings have not been fully understood.

SCP-XXXX is a previously unknown anomalous radio frequency that, by unknown means, has gained sentience. The only known device capable of constantly broadcasting this frequency is SCP-XXXX-01. Attempts at recreating this effect have met with little success and are unable to maintain a stable connection. All receiving devices not inside the broadcasting radius are unable to pick it up at all, simply passing over it. If a receiver with a microphone is set to the frequency (such as SCP-XXXX-01 or a handheld radio), SCP-XXXX can be communicated with directly.
The entity itself is capable of communication through Finnish, English, German and Russian (although its capabilities in this language are mostly confined to profanities). Its favored voice is that of an English speaking male with a slight Finnish accent, although it can produce any sound from a single voice to a full orchestra. SCP-XXXX is also capable of using other radio-wave based technology such as RC cars and miniature helicopters set to its frequency, but due to its limited “sight”, requires instructions on its surrounding area. When not being talked to, it spends most of its time “singing”. SCP-XXXX is capable of choosing which receivers set to its frequency will broadcast it and is capable of broadcasting several different sounds from different devices at the same time. It also possesses an excellent memory, being able to perfectly recreate anything it has heard. Through much testing, the voice of SCP-XXXX has been proven to be non-anomalous and safe for listening.

SCP-XXXX has a pleasant personality and has been fully co-operative with the Foundation. Due to its helpful and cheerful character and its willingness to interact in conversations, it has become rather popular with the personnel of Site-██. For its good behavior record and inability to broadcast anything outside the area of the Site, it has been allowed to start its own radio channel, named “Static from Site-Unknown”, or “Static” for short. However, this privilege should be revoked at any instance of misbehavior by SCP-XXXX. Brake rooms have been equipped with special radios set to the proper frequency, and personal radios can be requested by personnel. The channel mostly broadcasts:

• Simple melodies of its own making, often with a futuristic or an aquatic tune,
• Music commonly played in Finland in the 1970’s,
• A series of short stories describing tales of a man living in a post-apocalyptic world,
• Trivia quizzes,
• Public information about the food in the cafeteria, meetings, seminars and similar, which is to be approved by Dr. Veripuu before being broadcasted,
• In case of an emergency, the required information detailing actions required by the personnel.

SCP-XXXX has claimed to constantly hear static and that it broadcasts not only for the social aspect, but because many devices broadcasting it at the same time “louden” its voice and mute the background noise. A low volume static can be heard from all devices set to its frequency, but whether its claims of hearing it is true remains unknown.

Addendum; Tests to introduce SCP-XXXX to voice recordings of SCP-███ are pending approval.
