Foreword: The following is a transcript of a video recorded interview between a member of the foundation's psychiatric team and SCP-XXXX.
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX - "Koma"
Interviewer: Dr. J████
<Begin Log>
J████: Alright, let's begin. Can you please state your name?
SCP-XXXX: What is that?
SCP-XXXX proceeds to point at the interviewer's digital audio recorder.
J████: This is a voice recorder.
SCP-XXXX: What does it do?
J████: It records our voices so we have a way to review this interview.
SCP-XXXX: [Pointing at the video camera behind the interviewer] What is that?
J████: It's a video camera. It creates a video of this interview.
SCP-XXXX: What is a video?
J████: A video is- is a series of moving pictures. I do apologize, but could you please answer my questions?
SCP-XXXX looks around the room, then stares at the interviewer for several seconds.
SCP-XXXX: You may call me Koma.
J████: Very well, and do you know where you are?
SCP-XXXX: I am being held at Facility #████ in ████████, ██.
J████: Do you know why you're being held here?
SCP-XXXX: You believe me to be an anomaly and a potential risk to the safety of the people in your world.
J████: Do you think our fears are founded?
SCP-XXXX: They are not founded, but you are right to be cautious.
J████: Why do you say that?
SCP-XXXX: I am not of your world. You see me, and you do not know what I am, so you cannot know my motivations. It is understandable.
J████: Why have you come to our world?
SCP-XXXX: To learn.
At this point, SCP-XXXX's attention appears to wander and it begins to look around the room.
J████: What do you wish to learn?
SCP-XXXX: Everything.
SCP-XXXX climbs off of the chair it was seated on and reaches out, taking the hem of the interviewer's lab coat in its fingers.
SCP-XXXX: What material is this?
J████: It's polyester.
SCP-XXXX leans down and appears to sniff the fabric while rubbing it between its fingers.
SCP-XXXX: Why is it so strange? What plant does it come from?
J████: It doesn't come from a plant. It's synthetic.
SCP-XXXX looks up at the interviewer, then back down to the hem of the coat, before releasing it. It then approaches the two-way glass and appears to examine its reflection.
J████: Do you have synthetic fabric where you come from?
SCP-XXXX: Your language has many strange words. Synthetic. Artificial. Fake? No, not fake. Unnatural.
J████: Polyester is a plastic made from oil.
SCP-XXXX: Fabric from oil. We do not have 'synthetic' clothing where I come from.
Foreword: The following is an experiment conducted under the supervision of Dr. K████ S████████, the purpose of which is to observe SCP-XXXX's interactions with requested objects. Observational report is to include both objective descriptions and apparent emotional and psychological response of SCP-XXXX.
At the request of Dr. P█████, SCP-XXXX has been provided with a number of mundane items to inspect. Dr. P█████ is present to record the resulting interactions.
After several interviews with SCP-XXXX, I have determined that her primary interest in our dimension is learning as much as possible. This experiment is aimed at trying to better determine the types of objects she is most interested in, hopefully to better understand the long-term goal of her exploration.
-Dr. P█████
Object #1: Bostich stapler, black, loaded with 25 steel staples.
Observation: SCP-XXXX spent 47 seconds inspecting every possible angle of the object. SCP-XXXX then opened the stapler and removed the staples, picking several of them apart and closely inspecting several of them before placing them back into the stapler. SCP-XXXX then proceeded to operate the stapler four times before setting it down and closely inspecting the expended staples.
Object #2: Craftsman 10oz. carpenter's hammer, wooden handle.
Observation: SCP-XXXX showed very little interest in the object. SCP-XXXX picked the hammer up, briefly inspected it, then set it down and moved on.
Object #3: Sony ICD PX333 Digital Voice Recorder
Observation: SCP-XXXX immediately demonstrated knowledge of how the object worked, presumably from seeing it used in prior interviews. SCP-XXXX proceeded to spend several minutes recoding various phrases in an unidentifiable language and then playing them back, which appeared to provide it with much entertainment, before setting it back on the table.
Object #4: Colt M1911 pistol, with magazine, unloaded.
Observation: SCP-XXXX picked the pistol up and spent several minutes operating the slide, ejecting and replacing the magazine, and manually cocking the hammer. SCP-XXXX then disassembled the pistol and inspected its internal components briefly before moving on.
Object #5: Slice of New York style cheesecake.
Observation: SCP-XXXX sniffed the cake curiously, then took a sample with one finger and tasted it. This was followed by SCP-XXXX taking a small bite of the cake, at which point its reaction indicated displeasure with the flavor.
Object #6: Live domestic shorthair kitten, eight weeks.
Observation: SCP-XXXX appeared to elicit the same reaction many humans do when confronted by this object, and spent several minutes stroking and scratching the kitten's head before moving on.
Object #7: A 4oz hamburger with lettuce, tomato, and onion on a normal hamburger bun.
Observation: SCP-XXXX sniffed the hamburger, then disassembled it and ate the bun, tomato, lettuce, and onion, but seemed uninterested in the burger patty.
Object #8: 18th century English arming sword.
Observation: SCP-XXXX picked the sword up and took a few swings with it, then spent 32 seconds examining the engraving on the grip and crossguard before placing it back on the table.
Object #9: Dell Latitude D630 laptop computer.
Observation: SCP-XXXX spent several minutes examining the outer surface of the computer. After pressing several of the keys, SCP-XXXX discovered the power button and successfully powered on the computer. After booting, SCP-XXXX was able to learn how to use the touchpad, and successfully launched several applications. SCP-XXXX then spent 30 minutes exploring multiple applications before moving on.
At this point, the test ended and SCP-XXXX was instructed to return to her primary cell. Shortly after entering her cell, SCP-XXXX demanifested.
Based on my observations, I have come to the following conclusions, subject to change with further observational tests:
- SCP-XXXX shows great intrest in modern objects, especially electronic or mechanical ones, and appears to enjoy disassembling them.
- SCP-XXXX shows little interest in primitive tools.
- SCP-XXXX shows some food preferences. This makes me curious as to its dietary preferences. I am making a note to perform further testing in this regard pending authorization.
- SCP-XXXX displays an ability to very quickly learn how to operate modern technology despite an initial unfamiliarity.
SCP-XXXX is not the most interesting subject housed at this facility, but unlike many others, she offers her own unique opportunities. If my theory is correct, and she is just one member of an entire race of beings like her, she offers an opportunity to learn about an alien species.
