Item #: SCP-2823

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-2823 is to be contained in an opaque box at all times. The box needs to only be big enough to fit SCP-2823 inside comfortably, and must remain locked at all times. No personnel or subjects are to interact with SCP-2823 in any way, unless they have the proper authorization and clearance from ████████. Under no circumstances is anyone allowed to look at SCP-2823 without protective eyewear of some kind.

Description: SCP-2823 is an extremely worn and damaged notebook 24.7cm x 19cm in size. It has a label on its cover with a name clearly printed on it. The name reads █████ ██████. As the name is very common any and all attempts to locate an individual with ties to the object have proven impossible. There are no defining or descriptive details about the "owner" anywhere within the object. Almost all of the pages are filled with something, each appearing to have been written in the same black ink, with the same utensil, and in the same handwriting. The entries within the object vary from vocabulary exercises to doodles and drawings of various objects and people. Some pages within the object are obviously missing. Four (4) of these removed pages have been returned to the book and remain within it. The several pages in the beginning of the object were never found or recovered, and there is no mention of them anywhere else within the object. The Foundation first came into contact with SCP-2823 in ███████ after there were reports of [REDACTED] in ██████████, Washington. The Foundation was able to trace the anomalous occurrences back to SCP-2823. While there is nothing remarkable about SCP-2823 at first, once someone has seen it with the naked eye it will begin to "beckon" them through various means, including subliminal messaging, whispering, visual cues, and hallucinations. We know this from first exposure to SCP-2823 when one of the personnel went against protocol and removed their protective equipment while out in the field during the initial investigation and recovery process. (Full incident report from the beginning of this excursion to the identification of the anomalous properties of SCP-2823 can be found in Mission Report-24F39.) There is one page within SCP-2823 that seems to be the catalyst for its properties. It is filled with a few lines that are as follows:

"Use me, for I am thy Pawn.
Fear me, for I am thy Reaper.
Cure me, for I am thy Malady.
Hurt me, for I am thy Victim.
Worship me, for I am thy Savior.
Renounce me, for I am thy Devil.
Elude me, for I am thy Pursuer.
Kill me, for I am thy Adversary.
Doubt me, for I am thy Deceiver.
Embrace me, for I am thy King.
Betray me, for I am thy Compatriot.
Mimic me, for I am thy Idol.
Resent me, for I am thy Reflection.
Believe me, for I am thy Truth.
Abandon me, for I am thy Child.
Erase me, for I am thy Mistake.
Relinquish me, for I am thy Innocence."

Upon reading this in its entirety, SCP-2823's anomalous properties begin to manifest. It should be noted that the effect will only culminate if the lines are read aloud and the subject is making physical contact with SCP-2823. Each sentence within the verse is a different aspect of these properties. A mere few minutes after this has been completed, a humanoid creature appears. This entity is identified as SCP-2823-01. It takes the shape of a male approximately 1.5 meters in height with a thin build. It wears a long coat, gloves, boots, and appears to have no skin on what would be its head. There is only smooth bone from the neck up, and all other parts of SCP-2823-01 are covered, effectively hiding any more defining features that may otherwise be visible on the body. The "reader" (henceforth SCP-2823-00) identifies this as "Pawn". SCP-2823-01 will take and complete any and all orders SCP-2823-00 gives to it. This has been tested from menial tasks such as cooking food and lifting objects to performing incredibly difficult tasks such as extremely complex math computations and even the torturing of subjects (Full extent of testing SCP-2823-01 included in Test Logs-22G2-22F6).

From here, SCP-2823's manifestations vary in many ways. The next entity's ("Reaper" within SCP-2823 and according to SCP-2823-00, henceforth known as SCP-2823-02) sole purpose appears to be the murder of SCP-2823-00. SCP 2823-02 takes the appearance of [REDACTED]. The manifestation of SCP-2823-02 varies, as sometimes it appeared minutes after SCP-2823-01, and other times it appeared days after. SCP-2823-02 is relentless and is responsible for the deaths of ██ Foundation personnel and ██ subjects (Full incident report(s) available in █████████.)

The next manifestation, ("Malady", henceforth SCP-2823-03) doesn't appear until SCP-2823-02 either completes or fails in its task. SCP2823-03 manifests as [REDACTED] and [REDACTED].

SCP-2823-11 was the final entity encountered before [REDACTED]

Addendum:
02/04/████
All further tests have been canceled. No one is to look at SCP-2823 anymore. The longer it goes, the more unpredictable it seems to get, and after the last incident I don't feel confident in our ability to contain anymore of SCP-2823's manifestations. I will be taking over the maintenance and containment of SCP-2823 moving forward.

Request to switch SCP-2823 to Keter class denied. There is no reason for such a classification when we can contain it with some minimal effort. Just follow the protocols. No entities, no problems.

█████ ███████ received an encrypted message on their personal computer a few days ago and brought it to my attention. After decrypting the message, it said this:
"I heard you found one of my notebooks.
-Sadly, █████."

The name matches the one on SCP-2823 and we were unable to trace it, as the origin of the message was discovered to be the very computer it was found on, but the implication within the message seems to be that there are more SCPs like 2823 out there. Whether or not this is a hoax by the individual is unknown, but almost no one is privy to the name on SCP-2823 so I find it hard to believe this is an elaborate joke.
