SCP-XXXX prior to containment.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a reinforced containment cell located at Site-19. The cell is to contain no light sources or openings that could allow light to enter the cell.

Six light sensors set to trigger when one or more lumens are detected are to be placed on the inside of the cell, one on each face. If one or more light sensors trigger, or if the entrance to SCP-XXXX’s cell is opened, all lights approximately 1,000 lumens or brighter in the entire location are to automatically dim to below approximately 1,000 lumens, or turn off. The cell is to then be immediately checked for openings.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-A are to be contained in a standard containment locker located at Site-19. Instances of SCP-XXXX-A-1 are to be contained in separate reinforced containment cells at Site-19.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an animate scarecrow adorned with a straw hat, a white and brown plaid shirt, and blue overalls. SCP-XXXX’s head is composed of twine. SCP-XXXX is mounted on an approximately 1.8 m long wooden pole inserted through the middle of SCP-XXXX’s body. An approximately 1.5 m long wooden pole is attached to the first pole with twine to stretch SCP-XXXX’s arms.

An opening measuring approximately two cm in diameter is present on SCP-XXXX's face. Within the opening is an optical lens that SCP-XXXX uses to perceive visual information. Despite this, SCP-XXXX lacks organs or devices the lens could transmit visual information to.

Near the bottom of the pole that SCP-XXXX is mounted on are 10 jointed legs resembling those of an arthropod's. Each leg is composed of the same material as the pole it is attached to, possesses an approximate length of 30 cm, and an approximate diameter of one cm.

If the majority of SCP-XXXX’s body is exposed to approximately 1,000 lumens or brighter, SCP-XXXX is capable of immediately disintegrating any objects within its field of vision.

SCP-XXXX can only move its head and legs, and can rotate its head 360°. SCP-XXXX responds to sounds despite lacking any discernible form of ears. SCP-XXXX mostly remains immobile within its cell. SCP-XXXX is fluent in the English language and is capable of synthetic speech via a speaker located within its head. SCP-XXXX's voice resembles that of a female human.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-A are immobile, parasitic organisms that resemble seeds. Instances of SCP-XXXX-A are purple, spherical, and possess a diameter of 1.94 cm. Instances of SCP-XXXX-A are believed to be incapable of most forms of perception.

When an object enters the vicinity of an instance of SCP-XXXX-A, 12 openings possessing diameters of eight μm appear on the surface of the instance of SCP-XXXX-A. Shortly after, silver strands of a fiber-like substance are extruded from each opening and attach to the object.

The instance of SCP-XXXX-A then determines whether or not the object is a suitable host via an unknown method. The factors that determine if an object is a suitable host are also unknown. If the object is deemed unsuitable, the instance of SCP-XXXX-A closes its openings, separating itself from its strands.

If the object is deemed suitable, the instance of SCP-XXXX-A retracts its strands, drawing itself towards the object. When the instance of SCP-XXXX-A comes into contact with the object, the instance of SCP-XXXX-A becomes white, detaches from the object, and dies.

After the death of the instance of SCP-XXXX-A, the object (designated as an instance of SCP-XXXX-A-1) gains sentience and grows 10 jointed legs resembling those of an arthropod's. Each leg is composed of the same material as the object it is attached to, possesses an approximate length of 30 cm, and an approximate diameter of one cm.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-A-1 appear to be incapable of, or inept at, perceiving taste, sight, smell, or sound. Instances of SCP-XXXX-A-1 are adept at sensing vibrations to determine their surroundings.

Addendum-XXXX-01: SCP-XXXX was initially discovered on 3/27/2008 at Curiel Wheat Farm, a wheat farm located in [REDACTED]. The Foundation was alerted to its presence after receiving reports of the supposed disappearance of the wheat farm. A drone was used in an attempt to examine the area before the initial attempt at containing SCP-XXXX. For an unknown reason, connection was lost with the drone after coming into proximity of Curiel Wheat Farm. After four further attempts to examine the area using a drone failed, an MTF Beta-4 ("Gumshoes") combat squad was deployed to contain SCP-XXXX .

Following the initial attempt at containing SCP-XXXX, an MTF Zeta-9 ("Mole Rats") team was deployed to contain SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX was located within the cave it was previously located in and was successfully contained.

During the team's departure from the site of SCP-XXXX's containment, a black airplane flew above the vehicle in which the team was being transported in. A cylindrical capsule containing twelve instances of SCP-XXXX-A were released from the airplane and onto the team's vehicle. The glass sphere penetrated the vehicle's windshield and shattered upon impact. Three seconds after, the vehicle became an instance of SCP-XXXX-A-1 (designated as SCP-XXXX-A-1-1). The team inside of SCP-XXXX-A-1 fled the vehicle after SCP-XXXX-A-1-1 began raising itself using its legs.

MTF Epsilon-14 ("Spare Parts") was deployed to contain SCP-XXXX-A-1-1. SCP-XXXX-A-1-1 was successfully contained.

The capsule was also recovered. Within it was a paper document.

Addendum-XXXX-02: On 3/29/2008, SCP-XXXX began communicating using its speaker. Below is the transcript of the interview between Dr. Conwell, a researcher assigned to SCP-XXXX, and SCP-XXXX.

Addendum-XXXX-03: During the morning of 3/30/2008, an instance of SCP-XXXX-A-1, Dr. Conwell’s digital alarm clock (designated as SCP-XXXX-A-1-4), assaulted and killed Dr. Conwell, presumably during his sleep, within his residence via repeated lacerations. SCP-XXXX-A-1-4 was contained by MTF Chi-1 ("Golden Retreivers") after Dr. Conwell's absence at Site-19 was noticed. Security camera footage within Dr. Conwell's residence reveals that an unknown device appeared to have teleported from an unknown location to Dr. Conwell's residence. The device achieved floatation via an unknown method and released one gallon of SCP-XXXX-A onto Dr. Conwell's alarm clock. SCP-XXXX-A was absorbed immediately after and resulted in the alarm clock's transformation to SCP-XXXX-A-1-4.
